It's different when GSP is the one defending takedowns. His standup will not be spectacular against shields because he will be worried about defending the td. I dont agree that GSP will have the strength edge either. Shields has fought at 185 multiple times and held his own there. I think shields will have a better weight cut this next fight so his cardio shouldnt be a problem either. Shields has gotten every fighter hes faced to the ground and GSP wont be an exception. Now can Sheilds lay on him for 3 of the 5 rds? I think he can. Looks like i'll be the only one betting shields.

Shields just arguably lost to Kampmann.

Now everyone here knows I think Kampmann is a fine fighter (and underrated, too) but he's not on GSP's level. GSP will straight fuck Shields up. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's not at all competitive.

I agree he may have lost the kampman fight, but I view that fight as an exception because he had such a difficult weight cut. After 1 round he was spent yet he took minimal damage and was still able to get kamp to the ground and "win" the fight. He shouldnt gas like that again and when he has the stamina hes a different fighter.

Fitch took every fighter down also before he fought GSP. It is so funny, before the KOS fight, he was the one who had the tools to beat GSP, and now it is Shields. Before that it was Alves. Lets be realistic. It was GSP's glass jaw that was his downfall before. Now that he put on a boxing clinic, it is his wrestling that will be his downfall. I think you are just looking too hard for a weakness so you can bet Shields.

He gassed hard against Daley also. Yea, the Daley that was stuffing some of his takedowns. Maybe he just does not fit @ 170.

I think he is going to get killed personally but the odds will probably be so bad I wont bet it anyways. So I guess I'll root for your bet. Unless GSP inside the distance is really juicy.

It's two different styles of wrestling. Fitch does his work in the clinch and he couldnt clinch with GSP. Koscheck didnt even bother wrestling for some reason. And last time I checked Daley didnt hurt shields standing, win a round, and he ended up on his back in both rounds. Although after looking back at that fight, maybe shields does have a conditioning problem at 170.

It's possible for him to take down Georges but that is literally his only avenue to victory. That is what I have a problem with.

I would be extraordinarily surprised if Shields could consistently put down someone as technically proficient, fast, and explosive as GSP.

Sure Shields can chain TD attempts, but GSP is also a master at that. GSP's takedown defense is arguably the best in the entire sport. The only fighters who have ever taken him down are Koscheck and Hughes (6 years ago), and plenty have tried.

Okami was able to stuff shields chain takedown attempts and even put shields on his back, I'm not convinced that Shields wrestling is going to be on the same level as GSP. Factor in that Shields has terrible stand up, and GSP just put on a striking clinic with a top 5 WW in Koscheck and Shields is in for a long night. I imagine it would look similiar to Fitch/GSP.

Round One: GSP takes Alves down at 4:13 who gets to his feet at 3:34 and is tripped down again at 3:23 until 2:51 when Alves gets to his feet. they stand until GSP snags another takedown at 0:38 and they get to a standing clinch at 0:11. 3:11 spent standing in round one.

Round Two: the takedown comes at the 3:55 mark, and stays on the ground until there is only 37 seconds left in the round, they stand until the bell. 1:42 spent standing in round two.

Round Three: GSP takes Alves down at 3:20 until 2:01 when Alves gets back up. GSP drops Alves with a punch with 40 seconds left in the round and spends the rest of it on top. 3:01 spent standing in round three.

Round Four: GSP shoots and lands a Takedown at 4:28. They stay on the ground until Alves scrambles to his feet at 3:06 and into GSP's guard at 3:03. GSP finally scrambles up to his feet at 1:47 and they stand until 1:02 when GSP catches a kick and takes Alves down. They stay on the ground until the end of the round. 1:17 spent standing in round four.

They stand at the start of round 5 until 3:57 when Georges lands a single leg. Thiago gets to his feet in a clinch at 3:26 and seperates at 3:17. at 2:37 GSP takes Thiago down again, before Alves gets to his feet again at 1:53. GSP takes him down again at 1:33 and rides out the rest of the round. 2:12 spent standing in round five.

11:23 in all rounds. Which is pretty damn close to halfway, alot more than I remembered. I think rounds 2 and 4 are the ones that must have stood out in My memory.

LOL, you actually did it, nice. Well I guess I was wrong. Point remains though. Lots of time standing, even dropped him with a punch. I guarantee it was over half the fight standing with Fitch (2nd round entirely standing I believe), and GSP dropped him three or four times.
