I also noticed that Miz looked fucking dead. Funny, too, since I was actually just a tad bit nervous at the way the fight was going before the choke.

As for Faber taking over the 135 lb. division, I think that's the plan. I mean, he ran the FW division for like 3 years. A lot of people hate on Faber--and I have to admit that I enjoyed seeing him lose to Brown the first time, just cuz--but he's really a fucking bad ass.

Well at least Mendes was a lot more interesting to watch this time around.

Really? Save for that little scramble, I thought he did next to nothing. He was winning the standup exchanges, why didn't he keep it standing? I actually gave rd 1 to Vasquez and rd 2 was close IMO.

Anything's better than watching him lay on top of Cub Swanson.

Way too much hate on mendes. He did just fine, Hell, he actually beat the shit out of Javier. And I sorta wanted Javier to win. I thought he won rounds 2 and 3 clear, and round 1 should of ben a 10-10 or could have gone either way. I actually thought it was a GREAT performance by a guy who is obviously improving and seems to be at least trying to become a more exciting fighter. And at the end of the fight Javier looked like a guy who got his ass kicked and could barely make it to his feet.

I do agree that he seemed to be taking an active role in trying to be a more exciting fighter.

In what way did he do anything? When was on top he just laid there and hugged him... a lot of it was Javier's fault for trying to utilize his retarded rubber guard over and over... but most of it was Mendes not wanting to risk getting subbed or swept by throwing a punch or trying to advance. I don't think he landed any meaningful strikes in all that time on the ground.

he was doing well on his feet, and probably could have stopped Vasquez had he kept it there... but for whatever reason he wanted to win a decision by taking a nap on Javier's chest. Congrats on doing a pointless flip... nice gif moment, but accomplished nothing. If you want to pass, maybe attempt to pass.

To be fair, Vasquez also did nothing, and was also actively trying to get to the guard... So he gets the blame just as much.

He explained the flip when interviewed after the fight. I can't remember exactly, but it was something like Javier has really good upkicks or something like that and he needed a more creative way to avoid damage.

I really do not know what to say. He basically beat him up. He landed plenty on the ground. He landed decent elbows and some decent strikes. Nothing jaw dropping, but good enough. i guess we just saw it differently. And like I said, I kinda wanted Javier to win and was not the biggest Mendes fan.

So, if he lays there, you fault him, if he sommersaults on a guy and a pretty cool scramble erupts he is just being stupid. Guy can not seem to catch a break with you.

^ he could actually try to hit him or learn how to pass the guard...

Just to be clear the first somersault was stupid. The second one actually served a purpose.

I don't mind guys down and controlling. I never understood the Fitch hate for example, he controls but he is trying to advance.

Mendez strategy is just an exploitation of a flaw in the scoring system.

I didn't think any of this elbows on the ground landed at all. I thought pretty much all of them, which they were few and far between, were ducked by Vasquez. He only landed one shot, but it was a standing.

I thought he was a lot more active than usual and that he did a lot more damage this time than in the past.
