I figure it's different when you do legal stuff, because you don't have to actually fix anything, you just have to provide information. Not always... I kind of pop in an out throughout the day. But you have to refresh the "go" button every few seconds so that I can lock a question before someone else gets it. There is a new question about every minute or so throughout the work day, and maybe every 3 minutes in the off hours. The problem in Legal is not the number of questions, it is that there are too many experts. The questions do not sit there for more than 10 seconds before someone locks it. So I have to be like a crack addicted day trader just refreshing all the time. I generally only answer about 5-10 questions per day... I spend about an hour or 2 doing it. But the questions in legal are worth a lot more, $30 is the lowest you see regularly. So I can make anywhere from $100 to $200 a day in about 90 mintes. I used to do it more, back in 2009 I would make $300-400 per day, but I wasn't as busy and it would take me most of the day to make that.

Anyway, the key is the refreshing the screen and locking fast.

Sometimes questions take two minutes to answer . . . sometimes they take 2 hours or more. (A lot of times, if they take two hours, it's because the total fucking retards on the other end can't even follow simple instructions like "open a new tab or browser" and it takes half an hour to get something done that would take me 30 seconds if I could remote into their machine.)

There are a good deal of questions, but a lot of them are either too technical or involved to deal with over chat or it's people asking about their account with some service that they have no control over. On a good day, I probably get one Accept per hour. On a bad day, I might monitor the board off and on all day and never really find a question that's worthwhile. If you can regularly make $100 to $200 in 90 minutes, then I'm jealous. I had a "good day" on Sunday and got 5 Accepts in about 5 or 6 hours, which totaled around $105.

Of course, there's also the problem of the occasional dickhead who just takes their answer and runs, or who won't accept because it's not the answer they wanted to hear.

Well that is not bad... based on your old job where I think you said you were making $9 an hour, it seems like JA would be an improvement. $15 is what I meant I walk away with, but if you click through my questions, you see that it is offset by many $48 and $68 questions. The difference is that chat is extremely rare in legal (because legal is what drives the site, we can bitch and they generally listen a little). So I always switch over to Q&A format and I find that the accept more often that way.

I actually hate doing it and I have been cutting way back. It is just a straight exchange of my time for money and don't like that. I like to be building something. But it i=has actually helped me a lot to build my practice up because i had freedom I would not have otherwise had.

To respond, I was actually making almost $14 an hour at Unisys. So the money wasn't terrible. It just sucked to do it.

I would be a lot happier with JA if there were always questions available. I mean, if I could say, "Okay, I'm going to sit down right now and knock out 5 questions in the next two hours" and then actually do it, I would be all about it. The problem is that it's just not consistent.

I've never heard that legal is the busiest category for the site. In fact, I thought it was computers. That's interesting. Why do you say that, though?
