The extent of my model was thus:

Some motherfuckers are going to go see Captain America. How many? Well, Thor made $65 million and he's not a really well-known superhero, so clearly people will turn out for a superhero who is not top shelf. But X-Men and Green Hornet both underperformed . . . and X-Men is a very popular franchise, so maybe people are getting sick of superhero movies. Hmm. . . Well that Captain America extended trailer that's been making the rounds actually looks pretty damn good. Hmm. . . Fuck it, +300 that Captain America performs as well as Thor did? Sold!

BAM! Successful bet.

I would more say I am open to certain possibilities. Modern science has no satisfactory explanation for a biological basis for consciousness. How the fuck does a collection of matter, electricity, and chemical reactions produce self-awareness? No one knows, and really, it kind of defies explanation.

Furthermore, a wealth of human experience (such as near-death experiences, astral projection, remote viewing, etc) hint at some non-local aspect of consciousness that suggests that it can--and does--exist independently of the brain. If in fact that's true then the only logical explanation that makes any sense to me is that consciousness and the brain interact and have a relationship with each other, but consciousness is not produced by the brain.

It seems you are talking about consciousness and intermixing the soul aspect also.

I suspect--don't believe, but suspect--that consciousness/the soul exists in a greatly expanded, eternal state in its pure form. Being channeled by the brain is akin to taking a man and sticking him in a 10x10 boarded up room with an axe. He lives in a limited state, while the outside world goes on without him. Eventually he takes the axe, chops a hole into the wall, and steps out into daylight and the possibilities of universe.

Death is the axe.

I have actually done a bit of research into DMT, but I've never smoked it. The thing about DMT, though, is that a lot of the experiences are fantastical and unverifiable.

With an NDE, however, there ARE verifiable details. For instance, I remember one account of a doctor who had a patient who said that while clinically dead she traveled out of her body, and out of the hospital building, and on her way out she saw a shoe that was, for whatever inexplicable reason, sitting on a ledge outside the building several stories up. The doctor thought the patient was hallucinatory but, out of curiosity, went on a search for the shoe. She ultimately found it. And this story is in addition to countless others that doctors have told about patients who were able to verify details in and around the hospital room when the patient was clinically dead.

There are only two possible explanations:

1. There is a grand conspiracy of lies and none of this has ever happened.

or. . .

2. We are capable of far more than we think and that we regularly experience.

I've read this book and it has some really good information and research.

I am actually familiar with that book. I've never read the whole thing, but I've read sections. And yes, it's very interesting.

If you got into that shit, I could actually suggest a whole host of titles that you might find to be thought-provoking.

Right now I'm reading this one, which I'm sure you'll find eerily appropriate to this conversation. Coincidence?
