I don't like the idea that you have to be one of the very, very best in the world to be a "real" ________.

When you trained to play football in high school, were you not proficient at the game? Did you not understand the rules and were you not able to execute your duties with at least an acceptable level of competency? And if so, did that not make you a "real" or "actual" football player?"

There are guys who are training at their local gyms who will fight in their local orgs but who will never be good enough to even make it in KOTC, but that doesn't mean that they're not real fighters or that they're not good fighters. They are just not among the very best in the world. That's like saying AAA ball players aren't real ball players or directors who never make it out of the straight-to-video arena aren't real directors.

How about you? Are you a "real" jiu-jitsu guy? I mean, you've said yourself that you can't even come close to hanging with the top guys in the sport.

^ They aren't pros and I don't want to pay to watch them. Maybe "real fighter" was incomplete... I meant "real professional fighters".

I am not a real professional bjj practitioner, I am an out of shape 34 year old purple belt. No one is going to pay to watch me roll. It would be the same as selling a DVD of mundials and then taking up 25% of that DVD with me and another fat old hobbyist.

You mentioned AAA baseball... many of those players are as good as the bigleaguers, they just haven't been called up... but how many AAA baseball games do you see on ESPN? No one wants to see guys that are dedicated to the craft, we pay to see the best fighters.

          I guess we're at a stalemate.

My point is that Cyborg, Kaufman, Coenen, Fujii, Frausto, Tate, and a few others ARE the best fighters in their respective divisions. Scour the earth and you will likely find none better. I enjoy watching them, not just for the spectacle of watching women fight, but also because I think they are genuinely skilled. I think Cyborg has serious MT skills. Kaufman is a very good boxer. Coenen and Fujii have high-level submission abilities. Tate is a good wrestler. (Did you know that in high school Tate wrestled with the boy's team because she was too good for the girls?)

I also think that at least a few of them would give SOME guys in their respective weight-classes some fits. I could definitely see Cyborg blasting the shit out of some lower-level 145 pounders and I could see Kaufman outboxing and maybe even stuffing the takedowns of some bantamweights.

But I guess you just see it differently.

^^ Yeah, we have been down this road before... I think the women are moderately skilled and even then, it just isn't a sport I enjoy because of the strength speed aspect. It just looks like slow mo MMA to me. It really comes down to a matter of taste I suppose... I just don't care for it. Kyra is supposed to fight in SF soon, I will watch that for the spectacle.

I don't mind the female fights but I do look at them as bascially amateurs.

That's pretty much my point. I got no problem with them fighting, and I am sure some of it is entertaining. I just don't think they should be taking away main card exposure from pro fighters. I feel the same way about Hershel Walker fighting on the SF card... the difference is that he brings some viewers that might not otherwise watch MMA, so I get why they do it. I don't think many people tune in to just see the chicks fight.

If there are 5 fights on the main card then I see no problem with giving ONE of those slots to the women.

I think they should just give the women a weight advantage, mix them in with the guys, and legalize groin strikes.

I'm either going to parlay Saff, Woodley and Kennedy or I'm going to put small bets on all the dogs.

Which seems to be the wisest course of action?

I am considering a parlay. I really don't think any of the dogs will win. I would not be shocked to see Lawler or Smith win, but I really don't think it will happen.

But you would be shocked to see Daley win?

My biggest question about Smith is how he's going to do at welterweight. The only fight of his at 170 that we've seen lasted only 2 minutes 9 seconds and he got knocked the fuck out. If this was at middleweight I might be more inclined to put a small bet on him.

BTW, if he loses this fight does he get cut?
