Rankings are not based off of speculation..they are based off of what has actually been done...so in that case I think Luke's are off.

Exactly. So what was done last night? Overeem gave a lackluster performance and proved that his striking doesn't equal insta-death for his opponents even if they stand with him and that he has cardio issues.

Who has he beat at HW? His best win by a mile is Werdum, who JDS also beat. JDS has also beaten Carwin and Nelson, and made it look easy both times.

And if you don't think speculation has something to do with rankings, then you're foolish. Why do you think every MMA site's rankings differ? Why are you asking us for our individual rankings (opinions)?

Well JDS knocked Werdum out before he had a chance to get his back flop on. That counts for something.
JDS has proven he can go three rounds without gassing. Overeem was huffing and puffing in the post-fight interview last night.
JDS has better wins at heavyweight.

In light of these realities, what I want to know is why you feel Overeem would win, because I think you must see something in him that I'm missing. So I'm just asking.

I think that avoiding speculation is impossible if you want to rank anyone at all.

I mean, if you want to go exclusively by the things that can be quantified, how was Overeem even in the top 10 at HW before last night? Does beating Paul Buentello and Todd Duffee get you into the top 10? He owned NO wins over top 10 guys and yet just about everyone had him in their list, including you I'm sure.

Not really. His only argument was a win over Brett Rogers who ended up in the top 10 for beating top 10 at the time Arvolski. Then he lost to Fedor...and I think he was still top 10 on a lot of people's lists. So I guess you COULD have made the case for him at the #10 spot, no higher.

First off, I would not at all be surprised to see JDS outstrike Overeem. Not in the slightest.

Second, with only a couple of exceptions, Overeem hasn't submitted anyone that has any real ground skills.

Third, I think the first round would be close but JDS would pull ahead substantially in rounds 2 and 3 as the gas-fest begins.

Now, with all that said, you're always trying to discredit JDS. If you can't see what a special fighter he is by now then, dude, I can't help you.
