My free play for Sunday, May 20 is in the MLB schedule game between the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals. Washington Ace Stephen Strasburg is on the hill for the Nats and will try to rebound from his worst start of the season. Strasburg is having a fantastic season with a 3-1 record, 2.25 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. Strasburg's last outing though was a four inning, seven hit, four run loss to the Padres. There is speculation that GM Mike Rizzo will shut down Strasburg when he reaches 160 innings, which could be early in September at his current pace. This would be surprising considering the Nationals are fighting for first place and Strasburg has been their ace pitcher so far this season. The shutdown is expected due to Strasburg's season-ending surgery in 2010. Meanwhile the Baltimore Orioles have been the surprise team in the A.L. The O's are 26-14 and in 1st place in the AL East, normally the toughest division in the A.L. The O's have had an amazing record on the road, going 14-5 this season. Wei-Yin Chen has been one of the reason's for the O's success, going 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Chen has allowed more then two earned runs in just one of his seven starts this season. This is going to be a great pitching matchup on Sunday and while I give a edge to Strasburg, I believe the 1.65 ora higher is just too much to lay with Chen having such a great season along with the excellent road play of the O's. I'll take the value here with the hot road dog. My free play is the Baltimore Orioles.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

While this is the first weekend of interleague play this year, the Sunday
Night Baseball contest is a good old fashioned National League battle of
first place teams as the Central leading Cardinals (22-17) visit the West
leading Dodgers (26-13). The Dodgers have been a nice surprise this season under
new ownership while the Cardinals have not slipped like many people expected
after losing Albert Pujols, and they have continued to win despite losing
Lance Berkman for a while and currently being without Carlos Beltran, both due
to injury. Beltran is expected to return Saturday however, so both he and
Berkman should be in for this Sunday affair from Dodger Stadium in Los
Angeles, CA at 8:05 ET on ESPN.

Kyle Lohse gets the start for the Cardinals here, and after leading the
World Champions in wins last season with 14, Lohse is proving that it was not a
fluke as he is off to an even faster start this year. He is 5-1 with a
sparkling 2.70 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, and when he was touched up for five earned
runs in 6.2 innings by the Chicago Cubs in his last start on Tuesday, it marked
the first time in his eight starts this year that Lohse has allowed more
than three earned runs in a game. He has also had very good command with 32
strikeouts against only eight walks in 50 innings, with the only negative
being that all four home runs that Lohse has allowed this season have come
within his last four outings. He faced the Dodgers twice last year with mixed
results. He tossed a gem here in Chavez Ravine, allowing only two runs and six
hits with six strikeouts and just one walk in 7.1 innings, but he then got
pummeled in the rematch back home in St. Louis, surrendering eight runs, all
earned, on eight hits while lasting only three innings.

The Dodgers counter with Chad Billingsley, who has been erratic while going
just 2-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Billingsley actually got off to a
great start this year but he has tailed off badly over his last three starts,
posting an ugly 6.43 ERA while lasting a total of just 14 innings and
constantly pitching with men on base, with an atrocious 2.29 WHIP. He allowed 23
hits and walked nine in those last three outings with a modest 12
strikeouts. He still has a good enough ratio of 37 strikeouts vs. 16 walks for the
whole season, but the fact that over half of those walks came in his last three
starts is rather disconcerting. The good news is that Billingsley's only
start vs. the Cardinals last season was a masterpiece, as he tossed eight
scoreless innings while allowing only three hits with an impressive 11
strikeouts and two walks. Keep in mind that start was over a year ago though as it
came early in the year last April. Billingsley must now contend with a St.
Louis lineup that leads the National League with a hefty .281 batting average
entering play on Saturday while averaging a hearty 5.44 runs per game
overall, which is second best in the Major Leagues behind the Texas Rangers (5.60).

The Dodgers took the first game of this three-game series 6-5 on Friday as
A.J. Ellis drew a walk-off walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the
ninth inning after the Cardinals had tied the game in the top half on a
two-out home run by Berkman. Oddly, that was just the second win by a home team
in the last eight head-to-head meetings between these teams.

                            Pick: OVER 7

Indiana/ Miami Under 177.5: Would love to take the Heat in this one as I expect they will play better, but without Bosh it's a risk to take Miami, so i will look to the Under in this one. Miami has scored just 75 points in each of their last 2 playoff games and It won't get easier for them to score tonight. The Pacers have allowed just 83 ppg on 39% shooting during the playoffs this year while at home they have allowed just 91.9 ppg. I just don't see this struggling Miami offense getting much more than they have been vs this tough Pacers defense. Miami has played good defense this year, especially on 2+ days rest as they have allowed just 90.4 ppg in that situation this year and they will have to rely on their defense if they expect to tie up the series. This will be another tough defensive game that will be played in the 160's.
