Larry Ness' 10* NFL Week 11 Goin' Over Total (30-19-1 s/2010)
My 10* NFL Week 11 Goin’ Over Total is on the NYJ/StL Over at 1:00 ET.
The Jets reached back-to-back AFC championship games in 2009 and 2010 and then last year sat at 8-5 with three games left in the regular season, poised to make a third straight playoff run. However, the Jets collapsed, losing 45-19 at Philly, 29-14 at home to the Giants and 19-17 at Miami. The Jets opened 2-1 this year but little has gone right since. New York has lost FOUR of five, including three in a row, putting them on the verge of losing FOUR consecutive games for the first time since dropping six straight in 2007. Some NFL teams will be starting backup QBs in Week 11 for one reason or another, but the New York Jets WON’T be one of them. Mark Sanchez is completing 52.0 percent of his passes (lowest of any qualifying QB) and his QB rating of 70.9 ranks 30th in the league. While Sanchez has received plenty of criticism, head coach Rex Ryan has decided to stick with him as the starter despite some calls for Tebow to take over and questions of Ryan's own job security. "With me, I will never waver," Ryan said. "I am not going to make a decision to save my job. I am in it to win games. I'm not sitting back concentrating on how do I save my job. I am concentrating on how do we win." The Rams are 3-5-1 on the season (Jets are 3-6) but St Louis has no such QB controversies. Sam Bradford was hurt most of 2011 but he’s been healthy in 2012 and enters this game completing 62.2% for 2072 yards with 10 TDs and seven INTs. He was excellent in last Sunday’s 24-24 OT tie at san Francisco, completing 26 of 39 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. He's now completed 66.9 percent over the last four games, despite the fact that his No. 1 receiver, Danny Amendola, missed the first three games in that stretch. It’s hard to dismiss the importance of Amendola. He got hurt in the Rams’ 17-3 Week 5 win over Arizona and in the three games he missed, the Rams were 0-3 while averaging only 13.7 PPG. Amendola returned against then 49ers with 11 catches and the Rams scored 24 points while gaining 458 yards against a San Francisco defense which entered the game allowing just 12.9 PPG on 271.4 YPG. RB Jackson has NOT had a great season but he did have 101 yards rushing last Sunday at San Francisco and has to like the opportunity to face a Jets “D” which allowed 174 yards rushing last Sunday to MarShawn Lynch and ranks 30th in the NFL, allowing 145.0 YPG on the ground (4.4 YPC). The Jets “D” allowed 14.8 PPG (2009) and 19.0 PPG (2010) in back-to-back AFC championship game appearances but in 2012, the Jets are allowing 25.3 PPG. The Rams are favored in a game this Sunday for the first time since since Week 12 of last year. However, it’s well-deserved. I expect the Rams to win win by continuing their solid offensive play of last weekend but I also expect the desperate Jets (read: Sanchez), to play MUCH better than they have the last two weeks, when they scored a grand total of 16 points (one offensive TD). Let’s NOT forget that the Jets had scored 35 and 26 points the previous two weeks. This low total is Goin’ Over!
Good luck...Larry
