Heat at Nets: What Bettors Need to Know

Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets (+2, 189.5)

The Miami Heat don't have much to improve upon as they enter the second half of their season - but they'd love to be better on the road. The Heat will look to improve their record away from Miami as they visit the Brooklyn Nets in a Wednesday showdown between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Miami is coming off a 100-98 double-overtime loss in Boston that dropped the Heat to 10-10 on the road. The Nets halted a two-game skid with a 97-77 win over Orlando on Monday.

While Miami aims to improve its fortunes on the road, the Nets will take any victory it can get against the powerhouse Heat. Brooklyn has dropped 12 consecutive games against Miami and has been outscored by 43 points in the first two meetings this season. Wednesday represents the start of a pivotal three-game stretch for the Nets, who will host the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers on the back end of the four-game homestand. Brooklyn comes into the night three games back of Miami atop the East.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, Sun Sports (Miami), YES (Brooklyn)

ABOUT THE HEAT (28-13, 20-21-0 ATS): Miami's three-star system occasionally becomes more of a two-man show - and head coach Eric Spoelstra would like to change that. While LeBron James and Dwyane Wade guided the offense as usual in Sunday's crushing loss to the Celtics, forward Chris Bosh was limited to three shot attempts in the second half and overtime. Bosh is the team's best shooter at 54.3 percent but is down to his fewest attempts since his rookie 2003-04 season. "He’s one of our best players, one of our best shooters ... three shots is definitely not enough for him,” James said. “We’ve got to do a better job of just trying to find him."

ABOUT THE NETS (27-18, 21-21-3 ATS): LeBron James may not have many fans in the New York area, but you can count Nets head coach P.J. Carlesimo as one of them. Carlesimo raved about James when discussing his team's chances against the powerhouse Heat. "You think how can this guy who can play the way he does and dominate, how does he keep getting better?" Carlesimo told the New York Daily News. “What fuels him is to be the best and to win, and the guys that I see that all the time with Kobe, Michael, and I see it with LeBron right now. And it’s a scary thing." James averaged 20.5 points in the first two games of the series.

                TRENDS:

                * Home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
                * Heat are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.

                * Over is 19-7-1 in the last 27 meetings in Brooklyn.

                BUZZER BEATERS:

                1. Bosh averages 12.2 shot attempts per game, well back of James (18.8) and Wade (15.3).

                2. The Heat and Nets are the only two teams in the league to have three players averaging at least 17 points per game.

                3. Brooklyn is 13-4 since Carlesimo took over for fired coach Avery Johnson.

4-STAR Houston +5 over DENVER - It's not a real surprise that Houston is a streaky team. This is James Harden's first time being the go to man and Jeremy Lin is plenty streaky as well. Right now they've found the groove and will get payback here for last week's loss to Denver.
Houston enters off a dominating 125-80 win over Utah Monday. They went 16-of-34 on threes in the win Teams which attempted at least 34 three pointers last game and shot more than 38% are 68-55-2 ATS.
Overall they shot 52.8% from the field. The Rockets are 8-0 ATS (12.4 ppg) since November 14, 2010 on the road with at least one day of rest after a game in which they shot at least 50% from the field.
Despite having 89 shots, they impressively turned the ball over only five times in that game. Teams which are rested after committing five or fewer turnovers last game are 135-112-5 ATS.
They also forced 15 turnovers, 12 of which were steals. The Rockets are 15-0-1 ATS (11.6 ppg) since November 13, 1999 on the road after a game on the road in which they had at least 12 steals.
Denver won Monday night, 102-101 over Indiana. They had 23 assists in that game after dishing 34 in a win over Sacramento prior. The Nuggets are 0-6 ATS (-11.0 ppg) since November 28, 2006 at home after a game at home in which they had at least ten fewer assists than in the game before.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: Houston 112, DENVER 105
4-STAR Sacramento and Boston Over 193 - People are under the impression Boston's defense is really going to suffer without Rajon Rondo. In the short-term we don't think so as its veterans set up to shoulder the load in the short-term. Sacramento isn't going to be afraid to try to push the tempo here however, leading to a high scoring game.
Sacramento is coming off a win in Washington, 96-94 Monday. The Kings are 6-0 OU (11.9 ppg) since March 06, 2006 on the road after playing on the road against the Wizards.
They actually scored 1.5 points less than expected in that upset win. The Kings are 8-0 OU (14.8 ppg) since December 21, 2009 as a dog after a road win in which their DPS was negative.
Isiah Thomas led their efforts with 22 points as Tyreke Evans had 13. The Kings are 5-0 OU (16.6 ppg) since March 05, 2010 with at least a day of rest after a win on the road in which Tyreke Evans was not the Kings' high scorer.
Boston is coming off a big 100-98 win over Miami in double overtime Sunday. Rested teams coming off a win in at least double overtime are 59-38-2 OU.
They pushed the stars big minutes in that game with Paul Pierce playing 49. The Celtics are 9-0 OU (10.8 ppg) since November 27, 2009 at home after a win at home in which Paul Pierce played more than 40 minutes.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: BOSTON 108, Sacramento 98
4-STAR SAN ANTONIO over Charlotte - Charlotte really focuses on competing with low level teams. recently the teams they've beat or have been close with are Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando, Sacramento, a slumping Houston and Minnesota. There's no average or above teams in that group. The Bobcats know they can't stay with the Spurs here and will get run out of the gym.
San Antonio has won eight straight including 108-99 over Phoenix Saturday. They trailed by a point entering the fourth quarter of that game. The Spurs are 9-0 ATS (7.5 ppg) since April 22, 2008 at home off a home win in which they trailed at the end of the third quarter.
San Antonio overcame solid 6-of-12 three-point shooting by Phoenix. The Spurs are 7-0 ATS (6.4 ppg) since November 21, 2001 with two or more days of rest after a win in which their opponent shot at least ten three-pointers and made at least half of them.
They were led by a strong 31 point effort from Tony Parker. The Spurs are 7-0 ATS (13.5 ppg) since March 14, 2012 at home after a win at home in which Tony Parker was the Spurs' high scorer.
Even more impressively, Parker's numbers came on 13-of-17 shooting. The Spurs are 5-0 ATS (8.3 ppg) since November 23, 2012 after a win in which Tony Parker shot better than 66% from the field.
The other starting guard, Danny Green, when 0-for-5 with a rebound in the win. The Spurs are 6-0 ATS (7.7 ppg) since March 25, 2012 after a win in which Daniel Green had more rebounds than points.
Charlotte lost Monday night to start this road trip in Chicago. They fell despite committing only 10 turnovers. The Bobcats are 0-8 ATS (-12.5 ppg) since December 20, 2010 after a road loss in which their field goal attempt per turnover ratio was at least eight.
When these teams played in Charlotte earlier this year, San Antonio won by 30 against an unrested Bobcats team, shooting 55% in the game. The Bobcats are 0-6 ATS (-9.3 ppg) since January 31, 2011 on the road when seeking revenge for a loss in which they had no rest. SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: SAN ANTONIO 109, Charlotte 85
