*4 Star MLB Play of Day*

The Kansas City Royals are going to be in a really difficult spot here. As of 3 am EST the Royals were still in a rain delay in the series finale in St. Louis so you can bet that they will arrive in Texas VERY late. This Royals team that has been constantly losing game after game will be exhausted. Wade Davis starts for KC here, and Davis has a poor 5.71 ERA. The Rangers still have one of the best offenses in baseball. Derek Holland is one of the most underrated pitchers in the bigs right now. The Royals are 0-8 in their last 8 against a lefty. They are 0-6 in their last 6 against a team with a winning record. Texas is 21-5 in Holland's last 26 on 5 days of rest. Take Texas -1.5.

Game: Milwaukee at Philadelphia (7:05 PM Eastern)
                      Pick: Philadelphia -130 (moneyline)

The Milwaukee Brewers must have been feeling good about things when they were amidst a nine-game winning streak this season. What has occurred before and after is more indicative of this team's future. The Brewers are 10-33 in their other 43 games, and are more of the Miami, Houston ilk than their record indicates. Yovani Gallardo is just 3-5 on the season posting a less than adequate 4.87 ERA. Cole Hamels is just 1-8 on the season, but don't be fooled as he has pitched to an ERA of 3.24 over his last nine starts. The Brewers are 7-24 in their last 31 behind Gallardo as a dog, and the Brewers are just 11-30 in their last 41 vs. Philadelphia. Take Philly.

                                DAVE ESSLER

                                MLB Friday Free Play -Thoughts

Free plays have been hovering around .500 this week, while paid plays have done well. Tonight we've got a Triple Dime play and here's thoughts on some of the games.

                                Free play: San Diego-Toronto OVER

Since I can't trust either pitcher in the Philies game, I'd have to lean Brewers. They've simply got the better offense. I know that Gallardo has been hit, but he's faced far better teams this season than Hamels has, so I think the streak might continue.

There is no chance of fading the Pirates at home right now. Yes, they were fortunate last night, but most streaks have their share of breaks. Cueto beat the Cubs and the Mets since coming back, which you'd expect, and the Pirates already beat him once this season.

Atlanta is simply a hot team right now, and they know Strasburg as well as anyone. Teheran has been pitching well of late, so with or without Harper I'll take the home team.

It's tough to pass up Matt Cain at +130 against anyone, really. Also tough to fade Miller and his gaudy numbers, especially at home. Giants not great on the road, and perhaps without Pagan and Scutaro, so this could be one game I would lay the chalk.

There is little or no chance of laying the number with Kershaw, on the road, against a team that knows him as well as anyone. Can't read too much into Colorado's loss last night, and think this one might go over. Way too tempting to take the under in a game w/Kershaw and a total of 8.5. We'll see.

Detroit is not hitting and not getting any breaks. The Orioles have shown they can win big, come from behind, or win small, so I would lean to the home team.

I've deliberated taking the Indians simply because the Rays cannot hit at times. Then there'c Cluber. Part of me wants to unload on the over.

Obviously the Red Sox know CC and the Yankees know Lester. I was ready to fade Lester against the Phillies, and may be ready to again tonight. Let's see what the Yankee lineup looks like, since it was rumored they'd get back Texeria and Youkilis (who will obviously be motivated), but that may actually inflate the number and give Boston some value.

I simply cannot over think someone of Wade Davis' capability at +180 or whatever it is. No chance of laying -200. George Brett gets the pine tar out.

Seattle and Iwakuma favored on the road is tough to get my head around. Haven't looked at the weather yet, but lean over in this one. Both teams hitting.

How far have the White Sox fallen to be +150 these days. Truly a reflection on Colon and the perception here. I don't really like Axelrod, but if I fade Chicago, Ramirez and Konerko go off. I might make a case for the White Sox RL here.

I really wanted the Jays game to be closer to -110 or so. Toronto flew from Toronto to Altanta for two day and then to San Diego to play a game at 10 PM their time. Hard to fathom Marquis and the Padres being -140. Maybe a game where I would take SD -140 and Toronto ML. I do that sometimes :)
