It is time to share some sharp player notes for week 2 NFL odds from the top sports betting expert Joe Duffy Grandmaster Sports Handicapper and CEO of OffshoreInsiders

                    Lions-Browns

The Browns host the Lions in Week 2 of the preseason Thursday, and again Oct. 13 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Running back Reggie Bush said he doesn’t expect the Lions to open up their playbook much this week, though the team is progressively adding more pages throughout camp.

                    Source: Detroit Free Press

The Browns and Lions each have two preseason victories against one another over the last four years. The Browns defeated the Lions, 27-10, in the 2009 meeting, but fell, 35-27, at Ford Field in 2010. The Browns, who have played Detroit more than any other team in the preseason (43 times), are 19-23-1 overall, and 10-6-0 in exhibition home games against the Lions.

                    Source: ClevelandBrowns

Cleveland’s second-year star running back Trent Richardson, slowed by injuries so far as a pro, was thrilled to find out he’ll play in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

                    Source: Associated Press

First year head coach Rob Chudzinski says Cleveland Browns have an honest-to-goodness quarterback competition between Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell. Weeden has taken every first-team rep in training camp, leaving Campbell to work exclusively with the second team. Weeden was excellent in the Browns’ preseason opener (10-of-13 passing for 112 yards and one TD), and figures to start again Thursday against the Detroit Lions.

According to Detroit RB Reggie Bush, the offense is beginning to hit its stride. Bush and the starters on offense only played for the first two drives. He expects a little more work in Cleveland after getting his feet wet at home last week.

                    Falcons-Ravens

Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta is out. He has 61 catches last year.

                    Source: ESPN

On the injury front for Atlanta, projected starting right tackle Mike Johnson is out for the season. Second-year man Lamar Holmes, a third-round pick in 2012, will now be asked to step up in Johnson’s absence.

Ravens wide receiver Deonte Thompson has a sprained left foot that will sideline him Thursday night for a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. Running back Bernard Pierce suffered a sprained left knee when he was hit in the end zone following a 20-yard touchdown run against Tampa Bay. A magnetic resonance imaging exam revealed no structural damage to the primary backup to Pro Bowl runner Ray Rice. Pierce hasn’t been ruled out for Thursday night. Tight end Ed Dickson remains out indefinitely with a slightly torn right hamstring.

                    Panthers-Eagles

The Eagles have had starter Jeremy Maclin and possible backup Arrelious Benn both go down with season-ending ACL injuries during training camp.

Quarterbacks Nick Foles and Michael Vick are expected to play through the first half

Kelly said last week that Foles would start the second exhibition game after Vick started the first. The first-team offense and defense are likely to play the entire first half against Carolina. Quarterback Matt Barkley will take over late in the second quarter or in the third quarter, and Dennis Dixon and G.J. Kinne will play the fourth. Kelly said he is hoping to see more of Kinne on Thursday.

Practices early in the preseason are focused on getting the Panthers prepared for how they’re going to play come the regular season, leaving little time to game-plan for preseason opponents. But the Philadelphia Eagles, who will host the Panthers on Thursday night at 7:30, forced the Panthers to spend some extra time preparing this week. “The hard thing about this game is that you have to prepare for a completely different style of offense. It took a little bit of time away from our preparations for more conventional football,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “On defense, we’ve had to do a little more game-planning than you want to in the preseason. “Offensively, we’ll be facing a 3-4. We obviously see the 4-3 every day in practice, so this might help us because we’ll see a little bit of that from Seattle.”

                    Source: CarolinaPathers

The Panthers want to establish themselves as a potent running team. The Eagles, who allowed 248 rushing yards in their preseason opener against New England.

Tonight’s premium picks are led by the Panthers-Eagles. Chargers-Bears

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd is out after suffering a knee sprain during Monday’s practice. Floyd led the Chargers with a career-best 56 receptions for 814 yards and five touchdowns last season. Over his eight-year career, all with the Chargers, Floyd has 233 catches for 3,984 yards and 25 TDs. Danario Alexander, San Diego’s other starting receiver, was lost for the year after tearing his ACL last Tuesday.

The Chicago Bears signed running back Curtis Brinkley to a one-year contract on Monday in an attempt to bolster some depth to a position currently dealing with injuries. The move comes three days after Armando Allen, projected to be the team’s No. 3 running back behind Matt Forte and Michael Bush, hurt his right hamstring in Friday’s preseason opener at Carolina.

                                Today's Free Picks for Aug 15, 2013

                                L.A. Angels @ N.Y. YANKEES
                                L.A. Angels +106 over N.Y. YANKEES

1:05 PM EST. Phil Hughes is a train wreck pitching at Yankee Stadium and becomes an instant fade when favored. In a season of ups and downs, Hughes’ is on a serious down point right now. Each of his past three starts has been brutal and he has lasted only a combined 11 innings in them and that includes a 2.2 inning stint in San Diego. During his last three games, Hughes has a 2.04 WHIP and a BAA of .412. Overall, he has a heavy 48% fly-ball tilt, which does not play well in his home ballpark. In 12 home starts this season, Hughes is 1-8 with a 6.18 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 62.2 innings. The Yanks have won just four of Hughes’ last 15 starts and that tells us when he starts, the Pinstripes chances of losing are greater than winning.
By contrast, the Angels have won eight of C.J. Wilson’s last 11 starts. When this guy pitches, the Halos, for whatever reason, give him tremendous run support. Over Wilsons’ past four starts, the Angels have scored 7, 5, 11 and 8 runs and prior to that they scored 13 and 14 runs in two of three starts. Wilson has 33 K’s over his last 32 innings and overall he has 143 K’s over 152 innings. Wilson has also had great success against the Yankees, holding current Yankee batters to a .218 BA over 239 career AB’s against him. The Yankees have scored 25 runs over the past two games and they’ve also won the first three games of this series. If the Angels have any dignity left in them whatsoever, they will come out focused and play hard. No team wants to suffer a four-game sweep in New York in such humiliating fashion and the Angels figure to dig down deep to avoid that.

                                Our Pick
                                L.A. Angels +106 (Risking 2 units - To Win: 2.12)

                                Cincinnati @ MILWAUKEE
                                MILWAUKEE +125 over Cincinnati

Milwaukee has historically been one of the best home teams in baseball. The Brewers are having a miserable year overall but they’re just four games under .500 at home and that’s when couldn’t get out of their own way. Since the dust has settled in the Ryan Braun scandal and despite losing last night, the Brewers are playing some very decent ball right now. Back at home after a long road trip, Milwaukee offers up some tremendous value with Kyle Lohse going. It seemed Kyle Lohse was unlikely to duplicate his 2011 and 2012 numbers this year, much less improve on them from a skills perspective but that's precisely what he has done. Lohse rarely walks a batter. His groundball rate has increased this season to 44%, up from 40% over the past two years. Lohse is 5-0 with a 2.56 ERA over his last seven starts at Miller Park and Milwaukee has emerged victorious in each. He's also 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last five games overall and the Brewers have also won each of those. It gets even better. Against the Reds, Lohse is 3-0 with a 1.95 ERA over his last eight starts. Lohse and the Brewers are much undervalued here.
Tony Cingrani is far too risky to back, but his surface stats may lead you to believe otherwise. In seven starts since July 1, his strikeout rate is solid and holding steady, but a 23% hit rate and 80% strand rate have helped him put up a 2.23 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, despite having a 4.42 xERA. Cingrani has tremendous potential but he has not learned to trust his stuff yet and that’s a huge hurdle that many pitchers never overcome. Cingrani is what we call a plate nibbler. He throws a ton of pitches per at bat and he is often in a 3-2 count. It’s not unusual for Cingrani to throw 100 pitches in five innings because he’s always nibbling. At this level you cannot allow hitter’s to see six or seven pitches every AB and expect to succeed. Cinci has lost six of Cingrani’s last 10 starts and in those starts, Cingrani has lasted five innings or less in half of them, not because he was whacked but because he threw a ton of pitches. The Reds have been terrific at home this year but on the road they are under .500 and in no way should they be this big a price in Milwaukee.
