This is one of the biggest games of the season as the winner here has life to play for the BCS Title. If there is one team that has been able to slow down the "Quack Attack," it has been Stanford. Two years ago the Cardinal lost to Oregon 53-30, but that final score was very misleading. Stanford committed five turnovers in that game, but held Oregon to 387 total yards at 6.1 yards per play. Last year on the road, Stanford held the Ducks to just 14 points in a huge 17-14 upset, with the Ducks averaging just 5.26 yards per play. Given that Oregon averages 8.1 yards per play, those numbers are very good. The Stanford defense has allowed fewer yards per game this year than the defense from a year ago, while the offense is also a bit better. Stanford is on a 10-1 ATS run vs. unbeaten teams and they are 20-7 ATS under David Shaw following a win. Take the points and play on Stanford in what should be a close game.Comment

This game should decide the Pac-12 North title but much more is at stake with Oregon a strong contender for a BCS title game shot and Stanford already is the top ranked one-loss team, with a win this week only enhancing the hold on that distinction. Stanford cost Oregon a shot at the national championship last season in a 17-14 overtime game in Eugene, the lowest scoring output for the Ducks since the 2009 opener, the first game under Chip Kelly. While Stanford has covered in three of the last four in this series with two notable upsets the Ducks have won eight of the last 10 with a 7-3 ATS mark. The Stanford defense has not been as impressive as last season with Oregon actually featuring the superior yards per play defense. Oregon has some of the best numbers in the nation on offense and those numbers are actually a bit undervalued with so few meaningful plays in the second halves of games for the Ducks. While Stanford has slowed Oregon down better than anybody in recent years the potential for Oregon to pull away is great in a game they have been waiting almost a year for. While Oregon looks even better than last season with Marcus Mariota having more experience and yet to throw an interception this season, Stanford has snuck by with several narrow wins. The Cardinal have been out-gained in half of their games this season and after allowing more than 24 points once all last season they have done so three times already this year. With somewhat marginal statistics Stanford does not look at the same level as last year’s Rose Bowl championship team. In 2011 at Stanford Oregon won 53-30 with Andrew Luck playing for the Cardinal and last year’s 14-point effort looks like a fluke. It was coming off back-to-back road wins for Oregon and the Ducks have scored at least 35 against Stanford in the seven previous meetings.Comment
