Duke vs. Arizona: What bettors need to know

Duke Blue Devils vs. Arizona Wildcats (-2.5)

Arizona will try to match Duke's four NIT Season Tip-Off championships when they meet Friday for a top-5 matchup at Madison Square Garden. Both teams overcame slow starts in Wednesday's semifinals and are a combined 46-4 at the tournament. No. 3 Arizona is 4-4 against No. 5 Duke, including 2-3 at neutral sites.

Duke will face a different kind of challenge after getting past guard-oriented Alabama. "They're big," coach Mike Krzyzewski said of Arizona. "(Arizona) can post three guys from their starting lineup. And we're not real big so that will be interesting how we try to get that going." Arizona seven-footer Kaleb Tarczewski is coming off his first career double-double.

        TV: 6 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE: Arizona opened as low as -1 but has been bet up as high as -3.

ABOUT DUKE (6-1, 4-3 ATS): Freshman Jabari Parker leads the team with 23.6 points and 8.7 rebounds after matching his career high with 27 points on Wednesday. Parker is the first freshman since Kevin Durant (2006-07) to score at least 20 points in his first seven collegiate games. Rodney Hood adds 19.9 points but was held to eight points Wednesday because of foul trouble.

ABOUT ARIZONA (6-0, 4-2 ATS): Tarczewski is averaging 9.8 points after scoring 15 points to go with 10 rebounds and a career-high four blocks Wednesday. Nick Johnson leads the way with 17.3 points and 6-9 freshman Aaron Gordon adds 12.5 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds. The Wildcats, who are playing Duke for the first time since knocking off the Blue Devils in the 2011 Sweet Sixteen, had 10 turnovers and zero assists in the first half of the semifinal win against Drexel before turning around the offense.

        TRENDS:

        * Blue Devils are 5-2 ATS in their last seven vs. Pacific-12.
        * Wildcats are 5-0 ATS in their last five vs. Atlantic Coast.
        * Blue Devils are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 neutral site games.
        * Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games.

        TIP-INS:

        1. Duke won the tournament in 1985, 2000, 2005 and 2009; Arizona won it in 1990, 1995 and 1999.

        2. Duke has had a double-digit scorer off the bench in six of its first seven games.

        3. Parker and Texas-Arlington's Reger Dowell lead the country with seven 20-point games.

Iowa at Nebraska What bettors need to know

Iowa Hawkeyes at Nebraska Cornhuskers (-2, 47.5)

Iowa heads to Nebraska on Friday in the regular-season finale for two teams playing their best football in recent weeks, and both squads are riding the momentum of comeback victories. The Hawkeyes, who can double last season’s win total with a victory, rallied from a two-touchdown deficit to beat Michigan on Saturday for their third victory in the past four games. The Cornhuskers also have won three of four, and came from behind Saturday to edge Penn State in overtime.

The Hawkeyes are one of the most improved teams in the nation defensively, rising from ninth in the Big Ten to third in the conference and 13th nationally in points against. The Cornhuskers have struggled at times en route to eight victories, but Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has said he does not feel his job is in jeopardy. “I’m not coaching to save my job or anything else,” Pelini said Monday during his weekly press conference.

            TV: Noon ET, ABC.

LINE: The line opened with Nebraska as 3-point faves and now sits at -2. The total is set at 47.5.

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid 30s with a 11 mph wind blowing towards the North endzone.

ABOUT IOWA (7-4, 6-5 ATS): The Hawkeyes are stout against the run, having allowed four rushing touchdowns in 11 games. Sophomore quarterback Jake
Rudock, who had not taken a college snap until this season, has passed for 2,155 yards and 16 touchdowns. Iowa is 3-1 in road games, the only loss coming to Ohio State.

ABOUT NEBRASKA (8-3, 6-5 ATS): The Cornhuskers are 19th nationally in rushing, sparked by junior Ameer Abdullah. His 147 yards last week give him 1,483
for the season and 2,770 for his career, putting him seven yards shy of cracking Nebraska’s top 10 career rushing list. Nebraska has won eight consecutive games decided by seven points or less.

            TRENDS:
            * Iowa is 4-0 ATS in its last four road games.
            * Nebraska is 15-4-2 in its last 21 home games versus a team with a winning record.
            * Over is 4-0 in Iowa's last four games following an ATS loss.
            * Under is 4-1-1 in Nebraska's last six games in November.

            EXTRA POINTS:

            1. The Cornhuskers have won 11 of their past 13 Big Ten contests and a victory Friday would give Nebraska its sixth consecutive season of nine or more victories.

            2. Iowa’s four losses have come to teams ranked in the BCS top 15 who possess a combined record of 42-3.

            3. Nebraska leads the all-time series 28-12-3; Iowa has not won at Nebraska since 1943.

Western Michigan* over Cornell by 23
It’s a good night to be 6’11”, 255 senior Shayne Whittingham of the home team, who
didn’t play in the first few games but then came on the scene to average 17 and 12. He
and senior guard David Brown have stepped up their games. WMU actually has pretty
good size all over the floor, while Cornell is a bunch of lil’ fellers whose few tall kids
are inexperienced, don’t score much, and are not on scholarship.
                          WESTERN MICHIGAN, 82-59.

Florida* over Florida State by 9
FSU’s early doggie style successes, and revenge, make the big lay seem a little shaky.

                          Oregon* over Pacific by 24
Pacific is a nice team, but it’s hard to see them being able to play their defensive-minded
game with anything close to success in a road game on this floor against a good
array of scorers with length advantages. Oregon also has a pair of senior guards who
handle the ball very well in addition to the #1 point guard Dominic Artis, who is only
                          a sophomore.

Georgia Tech over Mississippi by 1
Shooting guard Marshall Henderson has returned for Ole Miss, but he’ll be the focal
point of a pretty good defensive foe.

St. John’s over Penn State by 1
Penn State will have some disadvantages to deal with in this match-up. But St. John’s
is up to its old tricks, shooting 24% from three-point range.

Virginia’s 3-point shooting and free-throw shooting have been horrible. SMU is shooting
the lights out from beyond the arc, even with highly touted guard Keith Frazier
                          limited with ankle problems early.

6’9”, 245 leading scorer and rebounder, given that Missouri State’s two leading
                          rebounders are 6’5” and 6’4”.

Fresno State* over Drake by 6
Although Drake lost by only 4 points at St. Mary’s near here on the West Coast, their
first-season head coach Ray Giacoletti had been a long-time assistant at Gonzaga, St.

                            Milwaukee over *Charlotte by 7
The Bucks could be a team worth watching now that they finally are getting healthier
with Ersan Ilyasova, Caron Butler and point guards Luke Ridnour and Brandon
Knight returning to the lineup. The Bucks aren't going to lack incentive in this one
after the Bobcats embarrassed them, 96-72, at home six days ago. The Bobcats were
8-27 ATS in their last 35 Friday games.
                            MILWAUKEE 98-91.

San Antonio over *Orlando by 5
The Spurs were just 1-4 ATS when laying seven or more points and are in a sandwich
spot in this non-conference matchup having just played at Oklahoma City and hosting
                            Houston on Saturday.
                            SAN ANTONIO 101-96.

                            Miami over *Toronto by 9
Toronto has been better on the road failing to cover four of its first six home
matchups. The Heat are leading the NBA in field goal percentage with LeBron James
                            shooting 60 percent.
                            MIAMI 109-100.

                            *Atlanta over Dallas by 6
Dallas ranked among the five worst defensive teams while the Hawks have tightened
up defensively, knocking their points allowed average down six points after giving up
105.4 during their first five games. Hawks point guard Jeff Teague is quietly becoming
one of the better point guards ranking in the top five in assists and averaging better
                            than 18 points a game.
                            ATLANTA 108-102.

                            Cleveland over *Boston by 2
The Celtics are who we thought they are – a long-term rebuilding team without any
stars. But the Cavaliers have been one of the biggest early-season disappointments failing
to cover 12 of their last 13 through this past Tuesday.
                            CLEVELAND 96-94.

*Detroit over Los Angeles Lakers by 3
Josh Smith has played much better at home and the Pistons could trump Pau Gasol
in the paint with Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe. However, the equation
changes if Kobe Bryant is back by this time.
                            DETROIT 107-104.

                            *Houston over Brooklyn by 19
Expectations were high for Brooklyn, but the Nets have crashed and burned saddled
with numerous injuries, including those to key players Deron Williams and Brook
Lopez. The Nets are helpless in the paint versus Dwight Howard if Lopez isn't back
from his ankle injury. Already the Nets have been blown out on the road by Orlando
and Sacramento, two teams far inferior to Houston.
                            HOUSTON 114-95.

*Oklahoma City over Golden State by 17
The Thunder were unbeaten at home entering this week and have revenge for a 116-
115 road loss to the Warriors from two weeks ago when Golden State buried 14 of 23
3-point shots. Klay Thompson made six of nine from beyond the arc in scoring 27
points, but he doesn't shoot nearly as well on the road. The Warriors are missing
                            injured Andre Iguodala.
                            OKLAHOMA CITY 121-104.

                            *Indiana over Washington by 15
The Wizards are beginning to play better, but the Pacers were giving up 15 fewer
points per game than Washington. Indiana was on a 9-3 ATS hot streak going into
                            this week.
                            INDIANA 100-85.

New Orleans over *Philadelphia by 4
Not surprisingly the 76ers have stumbled back to Earth while the Pelicans are on the
rise with the return of last year's leading scorer Ryan Anderson, whose return has made
emerging superstar Anthony Davis even better.
                            NEW ORLEANS 104-100.

*Denver over New York by 9
The Knicks conclude their four-game, seven-day road trip with this matchup as
Carmelo Anthony goes after his old team. Anthony will need help from sharpshooter
J.R. Smith, another ex-Nugget, if the Knicks are to spring the upset. Smith had been
extremely cold since returning from a five-game suspension to open the season.
                            DENVER 112-103.

                            Phoenix over *Utah by 3
Winning in Salt Lake City is never easy – with the exception of this season as Utah
has dropped five of its first six home contests. The Jazz have the worst offense in the
league, unable to create or hit shots including free throws, while not getting many
                            stops on defense.
                            PHOENIX 94-91.

Los Angeles Clippers over *Sacramento by 7
Aside from DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas off the bench, the Kings can't generate
enough offense to stay with the Clippers, who ranked No. 2 in scoring.
Sacramento ranked among the bottom in both offensive field goal percentage and
defensive field goal percentage. That's a bad combination.
                            LA Clippers 109-102.
