Wild at Ducks: What bettors need to know

Minnesota Wild at Ahaheim Ducks (-134, 5)

The Minnesota Wild attempt to accomplish a feat 13 others were unable to when they visit the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. Anaheim has yet to lose in regulation at home this season, going 11-0-2. The Ducks kept that mark intact Monday, when it posted a 5-2 triumph over the New York Islanders behind a two-goal performance by Corey Perry.

Defenseman Cam Fowler scored a goal and set up two others while captain Ryan Getzlaf notched an assist to extend his point streak to 14 games for Anaheim, which has won three straight overall and has earned a point in six in a row (4-0-2). Minnesota is coming off its third win in four games, a 3-1 home victory over San Jose on Sunday. Zach Parise scored a pair of goals for the Wild, who are just 5-6-3 on the road as they begin a three-game trek.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN West (Anaheim)

ABOUT THE WILD (18-9-5): Parise's two-goal performance against San Jose was his third of the season and first since Nov. 5 versus Calgary. He shares the team lead in goals (14) with Jason Pominville, who is mired in a nine-game drought. Minnesota registered only 13 shots on goal in the victory over the Sharks, including eight over the final two periods.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (21-7-5): Getzlaf has collected 10 goals and 11 assists during his point run. The 28-year-old has recorded his first career hat trick as well as two three-game goal-scoring streaks during the run. Getzlaf is only officially credited with a 12-game point streak, however, as he missed three games due to injury after scoring in two straight.

        TRENDS:

        * Under is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings.
        * Wild are 0-5 in the last five meetings.
        * Ducks are 5-1 in their last six vs. Central.
        * Over is 6-1-1 in Ducks last eight overall.

        OVERTIME:

        1. Perry has scored a goal in a career-high six consecutive contests, matching the longest stretch in the NHL this season (St. Louis' Alex Steen and Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos).

        2. The Wild recalled LW Jason Zucker from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

        3. Anaheim assigned LW Emerson Etem to Norfolk of the AHL.

Analysis: NBA LA Clippers (-6) at Boston 7:35 ET 2* LA Clippers -6 Hoops march on with tonight's (2) 3* winners in College Hoops. Hoops a daily thing... get off the bench. Always looking to favor the far superior Western Conference teams when they visit the lowly East (take a look at the standings) this is an especially good spot. Under 1st year HC Stevens, the newly integrated Celtics have struggled mightily against winning teams in their 10-13 start. And Clippers are glad to add to that misery as they make this an "A game" for HC Rivers in his return to Boston Gardens. Always like playing the better team when they have a reason to play.

3-Unit Play. #719. Take Penn State -6.5 over Duquesne (Wednesday @ 7pm est).

Penn State has the opportunity to do extremely well today given that they are a top 100 power ranking team in my book facing Duquesne. Bear in mind these two teams have played for the past 3 years as this is new series and they have some history with Penn State winning and covering a similar number last year (around -6 upon closing). I usually like Underdogs focused in Big10, Big12, SEC or Metro Atlantic contests because it allows for bigger lines to take with underdogs who are undervalued with the POD, but occasionally you'll find a rivalry overrated and the underdog receiving too much respect. There is no doubt Duquesne will be excited about playing a bigger named school in State, but nevertheless, this is a Penn State team that is top 40 in offense and a top 5 turnover team. I have them specifically at number 72 in the power rankings and they lost their last away game at Pittsburgh by 9 points as well as losing to Ole Miss by 3 points on neutral footing so as they step away from home once again, I suspect that focus will be there. Duquesne is outside the top 200 in the power rankings and this team has beat similar opponents by 24 and 12 points (Monmouth and Penn). So, what we get is a Penn State team who has only lost to the likes of 3 top 80 teams including Bucknell (by 10), Ole Miss by 3 and Pittsburgh who is a top 5 power ranking team on the road laying around 6.5 or so. I have Penn State winning this game by about 11 points here and that differential is enough for us to roll with State as the better team this evening led Frazier, Newbill and Travis who are 3 upperclassman that played a role in beating this Duquesne team last year. The Nittany Lions are 9-1-1 in their last 11 ATS non-conference games and the Dukes are 3-10 ATS when facing a team with a straight up winning record overall.

5-Unit Play. #713. Take Oklahoma City -6 over Memphis (Wednesday @ 8:35pm est).

This is a big revenge game for Oklahoma City. If you trace the last few contests between these two teams you'll notice that Memphis has won the last 4 contests by a combined total of 24 points as the Thunder were hobbled with injuries last year especially with Westborok. Now, this team is healthy and rolling at 16-4 as they face a Memphis team that is that is hobbled a bit with injuries and note that Memphis has not won back to back games in November 18th and November 20th. Since then, this team has gone 3-5 and as they come off a win and cover with Orlando, and with the big revenge angle that OKC has coming into this game, I look for Memphis to struggle as OKC is likely to have this game circled with revenge for some time. Note that OKC has won its last 2 games against quality teams on the road including Atlanta and New Orleans by a combined total of 25 points and I would not be a bit surprised to see this team do well today with revenge in mind and with the Grizzlies struggling to post back to back victories and covers of late. This is a short lay as OKC will be more than motivated this evening.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NHL Hockey

3-Unit Play. #51. Take Toronto Maple Leafs +127 over LA Kings (Monday @ 7:35pm est).
Randy Carlyle was hired to do exactly what he's done so far with the Maple Leafs: Get them into the playoffs. Now Carlyle's experience comes into play -- he won the Stanley Cup in 2007 and went to the playoffs in five of his six full seasons with the Anaheim Ducks. Carlyle is demanding, but the Maple Leafs have responded, and resemble their coach with their tough, physical and in-your-face style of play. The Leafs had an excellent season and were cruelly eliminated from the postseason by the Bruins in a series that could only be seen to be believed. With that memory suppressed, the Leafs are ready to improve on last season's showing and play deeper into the playoffs. The offense is loaded and the Toronto believes it has solved its goaltending woes by acquiring Jonathan Bernier from Los Angeles to give the squad a boost between the pipes. The additions of Dave Bolland and David Clarkson up front could turn out to be a major coup. This is a team that grew up an awful lot during seven-game series against the Bruins and should continue to progress under the guidance of head coach Randy Carlyle. As for the Los Angeles Kings, there has been more teams regress from unexpected playoff success than replicate that unexpected form in the past. And we have doubts that GK Jonathan Quick can be as dominating as he was when winning the Conn Smythe Trophy and the Stanley Cup, especially since he's off back disk surgery in the offseason. Essentially, with LA coming off such a big a win 6-0 in their last contest over Montreal and with the Maple Leafs getting beat badly 2-5 in their last contest against the Bruins, I like Boston to rebound here this evening.

Game: Buffalo vs. Canisius (8:00 PM Eastern)
                                Pick: Buffalo -3.5 (-105) at 5Dimes

This game creates somewhat of a regional rivalry as these upstate New York schools are not separated by a great distance. The Golden Griffins have a lot of work to do despite a cherry-picked 5-3 record, they lost by 14 to Metro State an inexcusable loss. The Bulls have started to play better after dropping a pair to start the season, and have taken each of their last four. Javon McCrea is an emerging star in Buffalo as he has averaged just shy of a double-double with 16 points per game and over 9 boards a contest. He will be the featured focal point here vs. Canisius who has shown weakness in the interior. The Bulls have rallied to the cause against a winning team where they stand at a perfect 7-0 ATS in their last seven when facing one. On the other hand, the Golden Griffins have failed to cover in any of their last four vs. a winning squad. Take Buffalo in this one.
