Reason For Pick:
I'm playing on Baltimore and Detroit to finish UNDER the total. I waited to post this one, as I hoped the number would climb. I'm ready to jump in now though. Both teams are off high-scoring games last week. Those results have helped in keeping this O/U line generously high.
After they got torched by Manning and Broncos on opening night, there was a lot of talk about how bad the Baltimore defense had become. The Ravens have slowly gotten better on that side of the ball though. They're allowing a respectable 20.1 points per game, on the season. Even after last week's wild fourth quarter, over their last three games, they're allowing an average of only 16.3.
Speaking of last week, prior to permitting 20 fourth quarter points, the Ravens had only allowed six through the first three quarters.
Like the Ravens, the Lions also had a wild finish to last week's game. The final score was 34-20 (for the Eagles) but that game had only eight points at halftime, with the Lions pitching a shutout.
In other words, while last week's results are one of the things keeping this line so high, both the Lions and Ravens could have easily seen much lower scores. I expect both teams to be motivated to play solid defense for the entire game this week.
Keep in mind that the Lions limited the Packers to a mere 146 total yards in their previous game, a dominant defensive effort indeed.
Yes, Detroit games are now averaging 51.3 combined points on the season. However, Baltimore games are averaging just 41.5.
Last week was the fourth time that the Lions had allowed 30 or more points this season. In the first three instances, the UNDER was a perfect 3-0/100% the following game. Those games had combined scores of 31, 40 and 45. I look for this one to also prove lower-scoring than most will be expecting. 9*Comment
