Stephen Nover's MLB Total of the Week
Aug 29 '17, 10:05 PM
A's - C. Smith -R vs Angels - T. Scribner -R
3* OVER 9½ -115
Two bad starting pitchers and two bad bullpen with an opening total of less than double-digits puts me strongly on the Over here. The A's are going with Chris Smith. He's a 36-year-old career minor leaguer with a 5.56 ERA. Smith is prone to the long ball and doesn't miss many bats. That's a bad combination. Smith has made seven big league starts and has yet to win. In all but one of his past five starts, Smith has allowed four or more runs. Smith probably is going to have to deal with Mike Trout, too. Trout is expected back after missing Monday's game with a stiff neck. Angels starter Troy Scribner has a 4.00 ERA - and he's lucky to have that considering how many hard hit balls he's given up. Prior to last night, the Angels had scored at least five runs in seven of their past 10 games while the A's had scored six or more runs in four of their past five games. Look for both team's hitting to return in this batter-friendly matchup. Neither pitcher will be getting any help from the weather with the forecast calling for slight winds blowing out.

Hey guys. I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong spot but since football is right upon and we are right in the middle-end of MLB season I just wanted to know if anyone has opinions and/or has ever used Steve Fezzik or Chris Torrisi (We Cover Spreads) / Mikey Connoly? Heard they were both solid but wanted to post here and see for myself. And if anyone else has any recommendations on who to follow I would love to hear. Thanks.

Here we go for big play today

**8-U MLB GAME OF THE YEAR
Take #960 Chicago Cubs (-1.5, -105) over Pittsburgh (8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29)
I love the Cubs in this game and I think that they will get this one in a blowout. They won 6-1 yesterday and I expect more of the same today. Jake Arrieta has been on fire for the Cubs. Arrieta has posted eight straight quality starts and he has just a 1.77 ERA in those games. Arrieta has won three of his last four starts and in his last six wins the Cubs have won those games by an average of over four runs per game. Chicago is 55-27 in Arrieta's last 82 starts and Chicago has gone 25-10 in his last 35 divisional starts. The Pirates are cold. They are just 5-11 in their last 16 games and just 2-6 in their last eight on the road. Pittsburgh is going with Chad Kuhl and they are just 3-10 when he starts away from home. Kuhl does not go deep into games. The last time he faced the Cubs he only made it through three innings in his start. That will put the pressure on the Pirates bullpen and that should be a big advantage for the home team. The Cubs are the defending World Series champions and over the last month they have finally started to play like it. They know they have a chance to push the Pirates out of the picture. And the Cubs want to add to their 2.5-game lead against the Brewers in the Central. I expect the Cubs to keep playing well and I think that Arrieta is going to keep it going tonight. I like the Cubs to get the job done in a 7-2 win here. Play Chicago.
3-Unit Play. Take #969 Boston (-1.5, -135) over Toronto (7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29)
I will back Chris Sale here. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. I expect that to continue against a Toronto team that has struggled this season. The Blue Jays are in last place in the division and they are just 2-8 in their last 10 games overall. Sale should dominate the Blue Jays, who are just 4-13 in their last 17 home games against a left-handed starter. The Red Sox are 7-2 in their last nine games against Toronto and 5-0 in their last five games in Toronto. Sale is 15-6 in his last 21 starts and 4-1 in his last five road starts. Go with Boston here.
