Teams trying to find themselves on the offensive side meet Saturday when Navy puts a long American Athletic Conference winning streak on the line against Cincinnati. Navy, which upended Tulane 23-21 in its conference opener on Sept. 9, has won 14 consecutive regular-season games played on its home field, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Navy relies on a triple-option attack to grind out games, but despite an opening-week 42-19 win over Florida Atlantic and the Week 2 triumph over the Green Wave, the Midshipmen have struggled with ball control and relied on big plays – six plays between 39 and 79 yards – a recipe that will be hard to sustain going forward against better opponents. The defense has played better than expected, allowing only 20 points and 294 yards per game, which marks a dramatic improvement over last season when they allowed 31 points and 434 yards per game. The Bearcats scored 15 unanswered points in the final 2:52 to pull out a 21-17 victory over Miami (OH) last week despite two crucial interceptions by quarterback Hayden Moore and a failure to convert a fourth-and-one on their first possession of the second half. Moore’s 96.3 passer rating is last in the AAC, but wide receivers have had drop issues all season, including six last week, with one by Devin Gray that could have gone for an 86-yard score.

ABOUT CINCINNATI (2-1, 0-0 AAC): Moore has completed 56-of-111 passes for just 505 yards with five touchdowns, four interceptions and a very-low 4.55 yards per attempt average – numbers that are all down from the 15 games he played over the past two years. Senior running back Mike Boone, who ran for 144 yards and two TDs in the first two games - a 26-14 win over Austin Peay and a 36-14 loss to Michigan - missed last week with an ankle injury but is expected back in the lineup. In his absence, freshman Gerrid Doaks rushed 17 times for 71 yards and freshman Michael Warren II had nine carries for 51 yards against Miami.

ABOUT NAVY (2-0, 1-0): First-year starter Zach Abey spearheads the Midshipmen’s triple option, running for 343 yards and two TDs on 61 carries and completing 7-of-22 passes for 242 yards with two scores and two interceptions through the first two games. After setting an AAC record for quarterbacks with 235 rushing yards in the opener, the junior ran for 108 yards on 29 carries and completed 4-of-12 passes for 132 yards and a TD – a 79-yard score to Tyler Carmona - against Tulane. However, Abey has been involved in all four of the team’s turnovers in the opening two games -- two fumbles, an interception and a bad exchange with the center.

Eighth-ranked Michigan looks to stay unbeaten when it hits the road to face Purdue in the Big Ten opener for both teams on Saturday. The Wolverines are ranked fifth nationally in total defense after allowing an average of 208 yards per game after wins over then-No. 22 Florida (33-17), Cincinnati (36-14) and Air Force (29-13) but quarterback Wilton Speight hopes to kick start a unit which has scored just one touchdown in 10 trips inside the 20-yard line.

"Our team is moving the ball … and I think the red zone touchdowns will come," Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters. "We'll just keep forging ahead and keep making improvements." The Boilermakers have won back-to-back games for the first time since Nov. 2012 following a 35-3 road victory against Missouri. Purdue is averaging 39.5 points over its last two games under first-year coach Jeff Brohm and hopes the offense keeps clicking as the Boilermakers hope to knock off a ranked opponent for the first time in six seasons. "You never know what can happen on gameday," Brohm told reporters. "We start off with the grand daddy of them all against Michigan and our guys are excited about this matchup and it will be a true test for us."

ABOUT MICHIGAN (3-0): Ty Isaac rushed for 89 yards on 16 carries in the win against Air Force before suffering an abdominal sprain, but is expected to play Saturday while wide receiver Tarik Black is out indefinitely with a broken foot. Donovan Peoples-Jones showed why he was ranked the top wide receiver recruit in 2016 as he returned a punt 79 yards for his first collegiate touchdown to go along with 52 receiving yards against the Falcons. Freshman kicker Quinn Nordin was named the Big Ten's Special Teams Player of the Week after he equaled a program record with five field goals, including a 49-yard attempt, just before halftime.

ABOUT PURDUE (2-1): The Boilermakers continued to rotate quarterbacks as David Blough went 22-of-28 through the air for 187 yards and accounted for two touchdowns while Elijah Sindelar completed 4-of-6 passes for 85 yards and a score in the win over Missouri. Freshman wide receiver Jackson Anthrop caught a team-high six passes for 36 yards and a touchdown against the Tigers to extend his TD streak to three games. Purdue's 107 points in its first three games under Brohm is the fourth-best under a new head coach, while the three points surrendered against the Tigers was the program's fewest against an FBS opponent in 12 years.

Pelluer’s injury has been one of the few negatives for Washington State, which has averaged 43.3 points and scored a total of 17 touchdowns in wins over Montana State, Boise State and Oregon State. The Cougars’ explosive offense is led by senior quarterback Luke Falk, who was named Pac-12 offensive player of the week after passing for 396 yards and six touchdowns against the Beavers - including five to receivers Tavares Martin Jr. and Isaiah Johnson-Mack. Falk figures to post similar numbers against struggling Nevada, which is allowing 32.7 points per game and lost 30-28 last Saturday to an Idaho State team that was picked to finish last in the Big Sky Conference. True freshman Kaymen Cureton is set to make his second start at quarterback for the Wolf Pack but will be hard-pressed to keep pace with the Cougars’ Air Raid offense.

ABOUT NEVADA (0-3): Cureton replaced returning starter Ty Gangi and turned in a promising outing against Idaho State, completing 19-of-33 passes for 205 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. First-year coach Jay Norvell is hoping Cureton can help the Wolf Pack bounce back after they fumbled seven times (losing two) against Idaho State in their first setback against an FCS team since 1994. Starting running back Jaxson Kincaide (concussion) is listed as questionable to face the Cougars while senior defensive tackle Jarius McDade will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee in practice last week.

ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE (3-0): One week after coming back from a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Boise State 47-44 in triple overtime, the Cougars put together a complete effort against Oregon State. Falk is the nation’s active leader in passing yards (11,793) and passing touchdowns (98) and should have little trouble against a Nevada team that ranks 109th in pass efficiency defense while allowing 284.3 passing yards per game. On defense, fifth-year senior Nate DeRider could make his first start for the Cougars in place of Pelluer.
