Have to look Under Friday night in the Carrier Dome when Clemson visits Syracuse.

Clemson is 4-2 Under their total for the season, while Syracuse is 5-1 Under the total in their 6 games played this year.

Tigers quarterback Kelly Bryant injured his ankle last week in Clemson's win over Wake Forest, so whether Bryant is at 100% or his backup Hunter Johnson under center, would tend to think the Tigers rely on their rugged defense that has stopped better units already this season to keep the 'Cuse from finding the end-zone much the way they did last year in Death Valley when they skunked the Orange, 54-0 in a game that landed Under the posted total.

Since joining the ACC, these teams have tangled 4 times, and 3 of the 4 meetings have indeed held Under the total.

Figure on this one getting close to the total the linesmakers have established, but figure on it falling just shy of the total.

    Clemson-Syracuse Under on Friday.

    1* CLEMSON-SYRACUSE UNDER

      JOEY JUICE

One thing we can say with extreme confidence is that without Jared Goff, this simply is not the same Cal offense.

With Bowers, he simply hasn't had the time to gain the experience to really run this offense the way it needs to be run.

A look inside the numbers tells us all we need to know about this total

The under is 5-1 in the Cougars last 6 games following an ATS win.

The under is 4-1 in the Cougars last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points.

The under is 4-1-1 in the Cougars last 6 Friday games

The under is 4-1 in the Cougars last 5 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing.

The under is 4-1 in the Cougars last 5 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing.

The under is 4-0 in the last 4 home games for Cal.

The under is 5-1 in Cal's last six on turf.

      This is an under game.

      4* WASHINGTON STATE-CAL UNDER

        NCAAF

        Friday, October 13

Friday's NCAAF Game of the Day: Clemson at Syracuse

Clemson Tigers at Syracuse Orange (+22.5, 56.5)

With quarterback Kelly Bryant wearing a walking boot following Clemson’s win over Wake Forest last week and a short week looming, the Tigers had reason for concern. Bryant returned to practice Monday, though, and coach Dabo Swinney expects him to start when the No. 2 Tigers travel to Syracuse for an ACC matchup Friday night.

Bryant injured his ankle during the third quarter of Clemson’s 28-14 home win over Wake Forest last Saturday - the Tigers’ 11th straight win and 37th in 39 games. Clemson has an open date next week before a tough stretch in which they’ll face Georgia Tech and Florida State at home with a trip to North Carolina State sandwiched between. "We've had a tough little stretch here through the first six games and got another one this week,” Swinney told reporters. “We're looking forward to the open date afterward, but our focus is really on trying to empty our tank this week and sprint into this open date and play our best game Friday night.” Clemson has won all four meetings since Syracuse joined the ACC, including a 54-0 rout last season, but the Orange have made a huge turnaround from a year ago - especially on defense - and are coming off a 27-24 win over Pittsburgh.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: Clemson -22.5

LINE HISTORY: Clemson opened as 21-point road favorites and they have been bet up to 22.5-point faves as of Thursday afternoon. The total hit betting boards at 56 and has been bumped up slightly to 56.5.

        INJURY REPORT:

Clemson - QB K. Bryant (Probable, Ankle), CB M. Edmond (Out, Foot), LB J. Williams (Out, Shoulder), LB L. Rudolph (Out For Season, Shoulder), PK G. Huegel (Out For Season, Knee), QB T. Israel (Out Indefinitely, Illness), TE G. Williams (Out For Season, Knee), DE R. Yeargin (Out For Season, Neck).

Syracuse - CB C. Hudson (Questionable, Undisclosed), DE J. Pickard (Questionable, Knee), WR J. Custis (Questionable, Shoulder), OL S. Clausman (Questionable, Undisclosed), DL K. Coleman (Questionable, Ankle), DL J. Black (Questionable, Leg), WR S. Avant (Questionable, Undisclosed), LB S. Cullen (Questionable, Undisclosed), CB A. Cordy (Out Indefinitely, Leg), DB D. Clarke (Out For Season, Eligibility), WR A. Enoicy (Out Indefinitely, Undisclosed), OL A. Roberts (Out For Season, Knee).

ABOUT CLEMSON (6-0 SU, 4-2 ATS, 2-4 O/U): The Tigers have been remarkably balanced on offense, averaging 237.3 rushing yards and 233.7 passing yards per game. Bryant is the catalyst, as he leads the team with 401 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 1,259 yards and four scores. Clemson’s defense has been even better, ranking fifth in the nation in scoring defense (11.3 points per game) and eighth in total defense (264.3 yards per game).

ABOUT SYRACUSE (3-3 SU, 3-2-1 ATS, 1-5 O/U): The Orange have returned to respectability on defense, allowing 24.3 points per game after giving up 38.6 per contest a year ago. That improvement, combined with a potent offense that ranks 32nd in the nation in total yards (466.8 per game), makes Syracuse a dangerous opponent. Quarterback Eric Dungey ranks in the top five nationally in total offense (354.5 yards per game) and has a pair of experienced and accomplished receivers in Steve Ishmael and Ervin Phillips, who have combined for 356 receptions in their careers.

        TRENDS:

        * Tigers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
        * Orange are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
        * Over is 6-1 in Tigers last 7 road games.
        * Under is 10-1 in Orange last 11 home games.

CONSENSUS: The road favorite Tigers are getting 59 percent of the support from users while the Over is receiving 64 percent of the picks.

Friday's ALCS playoff betting preview and odds: Yankees at Astros

Masahiro Tanaka gets the Game 1 nod after putting together the best start for New York in the ALDS - a seven-inning effort in which he scattered three hits and struck out seven without allowing a run.

          New York Yankees at Houston Astros (A: +150, H: -160, Total: 8)

          Series tied 0-0

The New York Yankees already stared down four elimination games in the postseason and knocked off the American League's top seed with a Game 5 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the AL Division Series on Wednesday, and things are not getting any easier. The Yankees will try to avoid falling into another quick hole when they visit the Houston Astros for Game 1 of the AL Championship Series on Friday night.

New York's hero in Game 5 of the ALDS turned out to be shortstop Didi Gregorius, who homered twice off probable AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber and went 3-for-4 in the clinching game after going 1-for-13 in the first four games of the series. "Now that I'm here, being in this unbelievable, unbelievable organization, everything, all the history and everything that's been here with the team, and guys are helping each other, backing each other up, everybody is protecting each other, it's the best thing because everybody is together and the team is really united," Gregorius told reporters. The Yankees (241) were the only team in the AL to hit more home runs in the regular season than the Astros (238), who have been sitting around since polishing off a four-game victory over the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS on Monday and are happy to hold homefield advantage over New York. "The Indians won over 100 games and had the best record in the American League, but I don't think that means anything," Houston shortstop Carlos Correa told MLB.com. "It doesn't mean they're the toughest opponent. The Yanks are tough, as well, as they just proved, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the team with the best record in the AL. That's huge for them. They bring momentum into the series. It's just good to start at home."

          TV:
          8 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

          INJURY REPORT:

Yankees - SP L. Cessa (Out For Season, Ribs), SP M. Pineda (Out For Season, Elbow).

Astros - CF J. Marisnick (Out For Season, Thumb), SP D. Paulino (Out For Season, Suspension), RP J. Gustave (Out For Season, Elbow).

          PITCHING MATCHUP:
Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Astros LH Dallas Keuchel (1-0, 1.59)

Tanaka gets the Game 1 nod after putting together the best start for New York in the ALDS - a seven-inning effort in Game 3 in which he scattered three hits and struck out seven without allowing a run. The Japan native is enjoying a string of 14 consecutive scoreless frames going back to the regular season and owns 22 strikeouts in that span. Tanaka suffered through his worst start of the season against Houston on May 14, when he was roughed up for eight runs and seven hits - four homers - in 1 2/3 innings.

Keuchel gets the Game 1 nod after Justin Verlander was used for four innings of relief in the clinching game of the ALDS in Boston. The 29-year-old Keuchel started Game 2 of the ALDS and breezed through 5 2/3 frames, striking out seven while allowing one run, to make it four starts in a row surrendering two or fewer runs going back to the regular season. Keuchel is 5-2 with a 1.24 ERA in seven career starts against New York, including six scoreless innings in the 2015 wild card game at Yankee Stadium.

          TRENDS:

          * Yankees are 1-5 in their last 6 playoff road games.
          * Astros are 13-3 in their last 16 home games.
          * Astros are 5-1 in Keuchel's last 6 starts vs. American League East.
          * Over is 5-0 in Tanaka's last 5 road starts.
          * Under is 6-0 in Astros' last 6 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
          * Over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.

          CONSENSUS:
The public is siding with the home favorite Astros at a rate of 70 percent and the Over is picking up 70 percent of the totals action.

                            Preview: Capitals at Devils

                            Gracenote
                            Oct 12, 2017

The Washington Capitals have won the Presidents' Trophy for posting the league's best regular-season two years running but they are staring up at a surprise leader in the Metropolitan Division. Superstar Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals look to avoid a third consecutive defeat when they visit the undefeated New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

The Devils finished last in the Metropolitan in 2016-17 -- 48 points behind Washington -- but they are the lone unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference after handing Toronto its first setback with a 6-3 road win Wednesday night. "It's important for us to come in and play a team like this and find a way to win the game," New Jersey coach John Hynes said after knocking off the Maple Leafs. "I think it's a confidence-builder." The Capitals are coming off a 3-2 home loss to defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh despite Ovechkin's eighth goal in four games. Washington went 3-0-1 last season against the Devils, limiting them to a combined five goals in the four matchups.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCSN Washington, MSG-Plus (New Jersey)

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (2-1-1): Ovechkin has scored at least 50 goals seven times but he's off to the fastest start of his career and matched the NHL record for the most goals in the first four games of a season. Rookie defenseman Christian Djoos had a memorable NHL debut by scoring his first goal and setting up Ovechkin's latest tally. "That wasn't my plan really when I showed up at the rink," Djoos said. "I was going to play good and play a structured game and detailed game, but happy with the goal and the assist."

ABOUT THE DEVILS (3-0-0): New Jersey scored the fewest goals in the Eastern Conference last season, but already has amassed 16 tallies -- the second-highest three-game total in franchise history behind the 1991-92 team. Cory Schneider had the worst season of his career a year ago but was superb in a 47-save performance against high-scoring Toronto. “We had two solid wins before this but this was a really good test, not that the other two weren’t," Schneider said. "For us to come into their building and match them was important."

                            OVERTIME

                            1. Ovechkin is the seventh player in the modern era and fifth in the expansion era to score eight goals in the first four games.

                            2. Schneider stopped 41 of 42 shots in two appearances (one start) versus Washington last season.

                            3. Capitals RW Tom Wilson will rejoin the lineup after serving a four-game suspension.

                            PREDICTION: Capitals 4, Devils 2

                                Preview: Rangers at Blue Jackets

                                Oct 13, 2017

The New York Rangers may find themselves in the cellar of the Metropolitan Division, but their upcoming four-game stretch against division foes will go a long way in determining if they stay there. The Rangers look to start that run off on the right foot on Friday when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets.

New York will look to its potent power play that has scored five of its 10 goals this season, with Mika Zibanejad accounting for his NHL-best fourth man-advantage tally in Monday afternoon's 3-1 loss to St. Louis. Zibanejad (team-leading five goals) is riding a career-best four-game goal streak, but has just two tallies in 14 career encounters with the Blue Jackets. Columbus' Sonny Milano capped his first career two-goal performance by converting a breakaway in overtime in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Carolina and the 21-year-old Massapequa, N.Y., native could have extra incentive to put forth a strong performance on Friday. "I guess my dad tried putting it in my head to hate the Rangers, because he grew up hating them, but I didn't really mind them too much. I never hated them, but I was never a fan of them," said Milano, who leads all rookies with four goals.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (1-3-0): Henrik Lundqvist has held Columbus' number to the tune of posting a 7-2-0 mark in his last 10 appearances, including yielding two goals or fewer in five of those contests. The 35-year-old Swede has sputtered in the early going, permitting at least two first-period goals in his team's three losses this season. Rick Nash, who holds Columbus' franchise records in games played (674), goals (289), assists (258), and points (547), has yet to record a point this season.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (2-1-0): Sergei Bobrovsky has been stellar out of the blocks, turning aside 66 of 67 shots - with his lone goal allowed coming with 1:15 left in the third period versus the Hurricanes. The two-time Vezina Trophy winner has struggled with the Rangers, posting a 5-9-2 career mark with a 2.88 goals-against average in 17 appearances. Artemi Panarin has been held in check in back-to-back contests following a three-assist performance in the season opener, and looks to remain dominant versus a New York team that he has gouged for four goals and two assists in four career meetings.

                                1. New York D Nick Holden notched four assists in the season series versus Columbus last season.

                                2. Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno has set up a goal in each contest this season, but has yet to record a point on the power play after netting a career-high 11 goals and 21 points with the man advantage last season.

                                3. The Rangers will host Metropolitan foes New Jersey (Saturday), Pittsburgh (Tuesday) and the New York Islanders (Thursday) to begin a six-game homestand.
