Canucks at Wild 10/24/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

        by Adam

Latest Odds: MIN -175 Total 5.5

The Canucks are a team that has been able to play some good hockey on the year and have been able to shock quite a few teams with the wins the Canucks have picked up. One of those games the Canucks came out and really shocked the teams was in the last outing against the Red Wings.

Derek Dorsett has managed to lead the Canucks on the scoring side and this has led to him getting a total of 5 goals on the season and 1 assist for 6 points total.

For the Wild the team is coming into this game with a 2-2-2 record on the year so far. However, the Wild would like to be able to pick up some more wins and that is possible when they are playing some of the weaker teams in the league. The problem is the Canucks are not a guaranteed win on the year right now.

The Wild have been relying on Chris Stewart. Stewart has been able to score a total of 6 goals on the season and has managed to get a total of 2 assist. This has led to Stewart to get 8 points on the year.

        Recent Betting Trends:
Canucks are 18-41 in their last 59 games playing on 1 days rest.
Wild are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Pacific.
Under is 3-0-1 in Canucks last 4 Tuesday games.
Over is 7-2 in Wild last 9 home games.

Free Betting Pick: Minnesota Wild -175

The Wild have a strong goalie in the net and that is going to help the Wild shut down the Canucks offense. The Wild offense will come to life somewhat compared to what the team is going to do. The Wild will win this game 3-1.

Blackhawks at Golden Knights 10/24/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

          by Mike

Latest Odds: CHI -156 Total 6

The Chicago Blackhawks (5 - 2 - 2, 12pts) are on the road for a surprisingly tough match up against the expansion Vegas Golden Knights (6 -1 - 0, 12pts). Vegas has been one of the best teams in the NHL this year, shocking everyone. Chicago has also been dominant and they're offense has been among the best in the league.

The Vegas Golden Knights will be taking the ice after scoring a nice overtime win over St Louis. Vegas has one of the top defensive units in the entire NHL this year as they are surrendering just a pair of goals per game. Vegas has more surprisingly been competent on offense, ranking 12th in the league. Left Wing ace James Neal already has 6 goals on the season and he figures to be a difference maker every night out. We've also been impressed by goalie Malcolm Subban (2 - 0 - 0, 2.06 GAA).

The Chicago Blackhawks are back to elite form and trail only St Louis in the Central Division. Patrick Kane (4 goals, 7 assists) looks like a man possessed on the ice and he's definitely showing why he is an elite player in this league. Chicago is 7th in the NHL in goals scored and 5th in goals against. Chicago's Corey Crawford is once again showcasing elite goaltending skills, which improves so much about the Chicago franchise.

          Recent Betting Trends:
Blackhawks are 3-7 in their last 10 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Golden Knights are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win.
Over is 19-8-8 in Blackhawks last 35 vs. Western Conference.
Under is 7-3-3 in Blackhawks last 13 games playing on 2 days rest.

Free Betting Pick: Chicago Blackhawks -156

The Blackhawks are led on the offense by Patrick Kane who is very much a catalyst for the Chicago offense. Yes, the Knights are good, but are still gelling as a team. With that being the case, we like Chicago to overcome the Vegas Golden Knights in this game, 4 - 3.

Kyrie Irving comes to Beantown facing rumors that he couldn't play with LeBron James because he wanted to be the focus of every single play, and it's understandable that he doesn't just immediately insert himself as the go-to guy on every trip downcourt.

It's understandable that he it's taking a little time to gel. But let's face it there is no better team than the New York Knicks to get your groove back on.

Other than Porzingis, the Knicks have no go to offensive players. Tim Hardaway Jr. has turned out to be a complete bust of epic proportions, and if you're waiting around for guys like Courtney Lee, Kanter, or Thomas to step up, you'll be waiting a very very long time.

Kyrie Irving makes this his come out game and statement game and he blows this team out single-handedly.

My free play for Monday is the Boston Celtics over the New York Knicks.

The Celtics have had a rough start to the season, going 1-2 while playing three games in the first four nights of the season. Injuries have already taken a toll, but they're keeping a positive outlook.

The Knicks, on the other hand, have no positive outlook. At least, I would think they shouldn't, other than Kristaps Porzingis. There's not much else to this team. Porzingis has scored 31 and 33 points in the first two games of the season, but the Knicks still lost by 21 at Oklahoma City and by 4 at home to the Pistons.

Back on the road, the Knicks won't have an answer for the resilient Celtics.

Tuesday's free play is the Blazers to take care of the Pelicans in the NBA.

This is a "payback" game for Portland, as they have dropped the last pair of series meetings, including a 3-point setback at home last April in the last series meeting.

The Blazers have gotten off to a 2-1 start to the new season, and all 3 of the games were on the road. Home opener tonight for Rip City, and I expect things to be rocking for the home team.

The Pels have dropped 2 of their first 3 to the new season, and they are just 1-5 against the spread the last 6 times they have ventured to the pacific northwest.

Have to lay the small number and side with the Trail Blazers in their home opener for 2017-18.

Here the Knights (6-1) are at home again versus the 5-2 Blackhawks who show off two days rest. Chicago will have goalie Crawford (1.86, .945) in the nets. The superlative stopper has allowed two or fewer goals in 5-of-7 starts. Overall, the visiting Chicago club is 22-10 off a win. Vegas loaded with experience at key positions will once again be changing goalies because of the injury bug. Fleury the leader is out with a concussion. With that ice inconsistency, we'll take a shot with the more talented Blackhawks to survive a challenging encounter in this special building. Good Luck.

You look at the two Game 1 starters in Clayton Kershaw and Dallas Keuchel and expect a pitcher's duel, but I think we are going to see some offense here. This isn't your typical October night in LA. A heat wave has hit the area and temps are going to be 90+ when the game starts. The ball is going to travel a lot more than you would expect and these are two loaded lineups that have both hit left-handed starting well. Keep in mind the Dodgers scored 4 or more in 4 of their 5 games vs a very good Cubs rotation and Houston had 4 or more in 3 of the last 4 vs the Yankees. OVER is 5-0 in the Astros last 5 road games vs a left-handed starter and 8-3-1 in their last 12 interleague road games. OVER is 5-1-1 in the Dodgers last 7 home games and 6-2 in Kershaw's last 8 starts after a game where they scored 5 or more runs. Give me the OVER 7!

I'm going to take a shot with the Houston Astros in Game 1 of this series tonight at a big underdog price. Dallas Keuchel has been great in the postseason going 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA without allowing a single home run in his three starts. Clayton Kershaw is 2-0 with a 3.64 ERA in 3 postseason starts this year, but he has already allowed 6 home runs in 17 1/3 innings. The Astros have been at their best on the road this season at 54-32 while scoring 6 runs per game. They are also scoring 5.6 runs per game against left-handed starters this season. Give me the Astros.

Indiana is a shell of its previous self and is in for a long season. In this case, Play Against underdogs like the Pacers, an average team from last season that won between 45-55% of their games, after two or more consecutive losses. In the past five years these teams are miserable 5-24 ATS and bonus, the Bulls also fit this tonight.

                                1* on Boston Celtics -7.5

The Key: I like the price we are getting with the Boston Celtics as only 7.5-point home favorites here against the New York Knicks. The Celtics are getting no respect due to their 1-2 start, but the two losses came to two of the best teams in the East in the Bucks and Cavs by a combined 11 points. They got on track with a 102-92 win in Philadelphia last Thursday, and now they've had 3 days off to tweak things and get ready for the Knicks tonight. The Knicks are 0-2 despite back-to-back 30-point games from Kristaps Porzingis. He is all they really have and he can't do it all on his own. The Knicks lost 84-105 in Oklahoma City in their lone road game. I think they lose by double-digits here, too. Take Boston.
