When: 12:00 PM ET, Saturday, October 28, 2017
Where: Milan Puskar Stadium, Morgantown, West Virginia

Preview: Oklahoma State at West Virginia

      Gracenote
      Oct 26, 2017

After yielding 23 unanswered fourth quarter points at winless Baylor and barely holding on for a 38-36 victory, 22nd-ranked West Virginia's defense now takes on the nation's No. 1 offense as 12th-ranked Oklahoma State visits Morgantown on Saturday afternoon. The two schools, along with Oklahoma and Iowa State, are tied for second at 3-1 in the Big 12 behind unbeaten TCU (7-0, 4-0), and a loss will likely eliminate the loser from earning one of the two spots in the Big 12 title game.

There will be few secrets between the two teams when they take the field as West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen served as the offensive coordinator under Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy in 2010 when the Cowboys won the Big East and the Orange Bowl. "The series between us and them has been a fun one," Holgorsen said this week. "We probably know as much about Oklahoma State as we do anybody on our schedule. Oklahoma State probably knows as much about us as anybody on our schedule, so our jobs as coaches is to put our guys in the best situation that we possibly can, which we will do this Saturday." Oklahoma State comes into the contest averaging 584.6 yards per game which ranks No. 1 in the nation while West Virginia is fifth (539.4). "It'll be a dogfight," Gundy said. "They're a very good team."

TV: Noon, ET, ABC. LINE: Oklahoma State -7.5

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (6-1, 3-1 Big 12): The Cowboys come in off a 13-10 overtime scare at Texas, the first time this season they were held under 41 points in a game. Quarterback Mason Rudolph, who already owns 30 school records, leads the nation in passing yards (2,650) and passing yards per game (378.6), completing 161-of-242 attempts (66.5 percent) for 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. James Washington leads a deep wide receiver corps with 38 catches for 914 yards and six touchdowns while Justice Hill has rushed for 750 yards on 139 carries (5.4 avg.) and five TDs and has broken the 100-yard mark in four consecutive games. The defense, which held Texas to just 42 yards rushing, is led by linebackers Justin Phillips and Chad Whitener while safety Ramon Richards had the game-clinching interception in overtime at Texas to go along with six tackles.

ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA (5-2, 3-1): In a conference that features legitimate Heisman Trophy contenders in Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and Rudolph, Mountaineer QB Will Grier gets somewhat overlooked. The Florida transfer ranks fourth nationally in passing yards per game (352.4) and fifth in passing efficiency (172.3) and leads the nation with 26 touchdown passes against five interceptions. Wide receiver David Sills V, once a highly touted prep quarterback prospect himself, leads the nation with 15 touchdown receptions while Justin Crawford ranks third in the Big 12 in rushing with 639 yards to go along with seven touchdowns.

      EXTRA POINTS

      1. The series is tied 4-4 with Gundy holding a 3-2 edge in matchups against Holgorsen.

      2. Washington leads the nation with an average of 24.1 yards per catch and his 32 career receiving touchdowns is tops among all active FBS players.

      3. Oklahoma State ranks third nationally in scoring offense (43.7 points) while West Virginia is fourth (43.3).

PREDICTION: Oklahoma State 41, West Virginia 31

          Preview: Texas at Baylor

          Gracenote
          Oct 25, 2017

Winless Baylor won't change quarterbacks ahead of Saturday's visit from in-state rival Texas despite freshman Charlie Brewer's near comeback last week. The Longhorns, meanwhile, might have a change as starter Sam Ehlinger is under concussion protocol.

The freshman Ehlinger (1,419 yards, six TDs, four INTs) missed practice Sunday and is day-to-day while opening-week starter Shane Buechele is taking first-team snaps in his place. Brewer led Baylor to 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter against West Virginia but was sacked on a two-point conversion that would have tied the game. First-year coach Matt Rhule said sophomore Zach Smith - who has started five straight and played most of the West Virginia game despite a stomach flu - will get the start. "I just think in these times Zach's done too much," Rhule told the media Tuesday. "Charlie needs to be ready to play, but I don't want to have a quick trigger on our quarterback."

TV: Noon ET, ESPNU. LINE: Texas -7.5

ABOUT TEXAS (3-4, 2-2 Big 12): Buechele (55-of-80 for 557 yards, three TDs and two INTs in three games) has thrown two passes outside of his two starts this season. Texas has struggled on the ground, averaging 151.4 rushing yards behind Chris Warren III (307 yards, five TDs) and Ehlinger (265 yards, two TDs). The Longhorns' receiving corps could be thinned as quarterback-turned-receiver Jerrod Heard (12 catches, 116 yards, one TD) will get some practice at quarterback and Reggie Hemphill-Mapps (31 catches, 323 yards) has a sprained knee.

ABOUT BAYLOR (0-7, 0-4): Brewer threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Smith (1,421 yards, eight TDs, six INTs). Freshman John Lovett leads Baylor with 403 rushing yards and four touchdowns and freshman Trestan Ebner gave the Bears a boost with three scores against West Virginia, even though Terence Williams (155 rushing yards in four games) is listed as the starter. Freshman cornerback Harrison Hand leads the conference with eight passes broken up while sophomore linebacker Clay Johnston has a team-best 52 tackles and nine tackles for loss.

          EXTRA POINTS

          1. Baylor leads the FBS with seven plays of at least 70 yards, including two touchdown catches by leading receiver Denzel Mims and a scoring run by Lovett.

          2. Texas is allowing 18.3 points and 97.2 rushing yards in its past six games after giving up 51 points and 263 rushing yards to Maryland in the opener.

          3. Texas coach Tom Herman said WRs Collin Johnson (30 catches, 535 yards, one TD) and Armanti Foreman (17 catches, 158 yards, three TDs) have not been featured in the offense as much recently because others are practicing better.

          PREDICTION: Texas 30, Baylor 20

              Preview: Louisville at Wake Forest

              Gracenote
              Oct 24, 2017

Louisville coach Bobby Petrino has made a name for himself over the years by guiding some of the more explosive passing games in college football, so he was among the many surprised last weekend when his team leaned on the running game to get a much-needed win. The Cardinals attempt to climb back to .500 in ACC action Saturday when they visit Wake Forest.

"You know how much I like to throw the ball. … (but) I thought the best way to win this game is to really run the ball at them, try to wear them out … so we called a lot of run plays. A lot more than I really like to," Petrino said after Louisville ran 44 times for 293 yards en route to a 31-28 victory at Florida State. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson spearheaded the offensive attack yet again, running for 178 yards while throwing for 156 more for his eighth straight game with at least 300 yards of total offense. The Demon Deacons welcomed back a pair of their key offensive performers in quarterback John Wolford and running back Cade Carney last weekend, but their return was not enough in a 38-24 setback at Georgia Tech. Wake Forest has lost three straight after winning its first four games and dropped six of its last seven in conference play, beginning with last season's 44-12 loss at Louisville.
TV: 12:20 p.m. ET, ACC Network. LINE: Louisville -3.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE (5-3, 2-3 ACC): Jackson (11,260) became only the fourth player in conference history to surpass 11,000 yards of total offense in his career, recording his 18th career 100-yard rushing effort as well as running for a score for the eighth straight game. Reggie Bonnafon added 74 yards on the ground and is averaging 6.6 yards per attempt on 28 carries over his last two contests, while freshman Dae Williams became the first Cardinal running back since 2010 to run for a touchdown in his first game with a carry. Jaylen Smith, who has already posted three 100-yard receiving efforts, led Louisville with 49 yards receiving and has tallied at least five catches in each of his five contests this season.
ABOUT WAKE FOREST (4-3, 1-3): Wolford, who missed the team's 28-14 loss on Oct. 7 at Clemson with a left shoulder injury, threw for 252 yards versus Georgia Tech - becoming one of only three quarterbacks in school history to pass for at least 1,000 yards in four seasons - and totaled three touchdowns. Greg Dortch leads all FBS freshmen with 79.3 receiving yards per game after finishing with 125 against the Yellow Jackets; he also ranks second among first-year players with 43 catches - 27 more than any other Demon Deacon - and stands 11th among all players in all-purpose yards per game (153.4). Defensive end Duke Ejiofor doubled his season total with a career-high tying three sacks versus Georgia Tech; his six sacks on the season rank second in the ACC.

              EXTRA POINTS

              1. Louisville fell behind 12-0 before erupting for the final 44 points in last season's meeting, outscoring the Demon Deacons 34-0 in the fourth quarter.

              2. Dortch is only nine receptions away from tying teammate Cam Serigne's school freshman record for catches in a season.

              3. The Cardinals have won all four games in this series, although they managed only a 20-19 victory in the program's only visit to Winston-Salem in 2015.

PREDICTION: Louisville 34, Wake Forest 27

                  Oct 24, 2017

With a chance last week to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2011, Virginia fell behind by 24 points early in the second quarter en route to a 41-10 thumping against a struggling Boston College squad. The Cavaliers will try once again this Saturday when they travel to Heinz Field for an ACC Coastal clash against a Pittsburgh team that found a running attack for the first time all season last week against Duke.

The Eagles totaled 512 yards and converted 10-of-19 on third down as well as 2-of-3 on fourth down while Virginia quarterback Kurt Benkert was battered all day long and threw for a season-low 126 yards before departing in the fourth quarter. "I think (the loss) shows that we can't just show up and expect to win, that it's not just going to be handed to us. We have to go take it," Benkert told reporters after the game. “These teams prepare just like we prepare, and no game in the ACC is going to be easy." The Panthers had dropped five of six until reserve Darrin Hall broke out for 254 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns, including runs of 79 and 92 yards - the longest in school history - that helped turn a 10-point, third-quarter deficit into a 24-17 victory. Despite the Panthers' 336-yard outburst on 57 attempts last weekend, Pitt still enters this game averaging only 141.5 yards rushing per game and 3.8 yards per carry.

TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network. LINE: Pittsburgh -3.

ABOUT VIRGINIA (5-2, 2-1 ACC): For the season, Benkert has completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 1,806 yards with 15 TDs and four interceptions. Jordan Ellis leads the team with 602 yards rushing while Olamide Zaccheaus provides a dual threat with 49 catches for 505 yards and 142 yards rushing on 16 attempts from his receiver position. The defense yields just 341 yards per game and ranks third in the ACC with nine interceptions - three by freshman safety Brenton Nelson.

ABOUT PITTSBURGH (3-5, 1-3): Hall entered the game with 108 yards on 31 carries, prompting coach Pat Narduzzi to say, “Right now, he's the guy. It's his job. I think he's got a lot of confidence right now.” Ben DiNucci started his second straight game under center and completed 8-of-18 passes for 149 yards. Benkert has a great chance for a bounce-back game, as the Panthers rank 13th in the ACC in pass yards allowed (270.4) and are last in third-down conversions (41.1 percent).

                  EXTRA POINTS

                  1. Pitt leads the all-time series 6-3, including a 45-31 victory last season in Charlottesville.

                  2. The Panthers are tied for the ACC lead with six fumbles recovered and third with 13 turnovers forced.

                  3. Virginia S Quin Blanding (432) needs four tackles to pass Jamie Sharper and become the school's all-time career leader in that category. He needs 35 tackles to pass North Carolina's Dexter Reid (2000-03) for the most career tackles in ACC history by a defensive back.

                  PREDICTION: Virginia 24, Pittsburgh 21

                      Preview: California at Colorado

                      Gracenote
                      Oct 25, 2017

Defending Pac-12 South Division champ Colorado finds itself at the bottom of the division and is weighing a quarterback change for Saturday’s homecoming game against California. Sophomore Steven Montez has started all eight contests this season, but was replaced by redshirt freshman Sam Noyer at halftime of last Saturday night’s loss at Washington State, and coach Mike MacIntyre said a decision on the starter will be a pregame call Saturday.

Montez is a 7-4 as a starter, including 3-1 as a freshman last season, but owns a so-so passer-efficiency rating of 135.4 and the Buffaloes are averaging only 22.2 points per Pac-12 game after last week’s 28-0 loss in rainy Pullman. “All our quarterbacks have got to go to a different level,” MacIntyre said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. “I’m not saying all the guys aren’t trying. That’s not what I mean. They just have to get better at what they do, (and) sometimes if you’re in a rut and not feeling good, sometimes it’s good to make a change, see what happens and see if that keeps you focused.” California, meanwhile, couldn’t carry over the momentum from its shocking Oct. 7 rout (37-3) of then No. 5-ranked Washington State in falling to visiting Arizona 45-44 in double overtime last Saturday. After holding the Cougars to a field goal, the Golden Bears surrendered 511 total yards and a season-high 45 points to the Wildcats, but still had a chance to pull out a victory until Russ Bowers’ potential game-winning 2-point conversion pass was swatted away in the second overtime period.
                      TV: 2 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network. LINE: Colorado -3

ABOUT CALIFORNIA (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12): Bowers established career highs for completions (29) and attempts (49) against Arizona and over the last two weeks has completed 50-of-87 attempts for 560 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Patrick Laird also is coming off one of the best outings of his career with 172 total yards and two TDs and ranks seventh in the conference with his average of 103 scrimmage yards per contest. Defensively, linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk has recorded 25 total tackles, including 4.5 for losses, over the last two games for a unit which is allowing 28.4 points and 433.4 yards per game.
ABOUT COLORADO (4-4, 1-4): While the Buffaloes’ aerial attack has sputtered, senior running back Phillip Lindsay has been a force, trailing only Stanford's Bryce Love in the Pac-12 rushing (136.6 yards) and all-purpose yards (155.4) rankings. Colorado also does boast a veteran receiving corps led by senior Bryce Bobo, who’s averaging 5.2 catches and 56.4 receiving yards. Linebackers Drew Lewis and Rick Gamboa are averaging a combined 15.3 tackles for a defense which is allowing 24.6 points and 422 yards.

                      EXTRA POINTS
                      1. California leads the series 5-3, including a 59-56 double-overtime win in their last meeting on Sept. 27, 2014 in Berkeley.
                      2. Colorado is only 5-12 in its last 17 homecoming games, and their 40-16 win over Arizona State last season snapped an eight-game homecoming losing streak.
                      3. Cal’s Matt Anderson ranks fifth in the conference with 1.38 field goals per game and needs nine more points to surpass Doug Brien atop the school’s career scoring list.

Kansas State and Kansas meet in the latest edition of their lopsided rivalry on Saturday, when the Wildcats visit the Jayhawks in Big 12 action. Kansas State has won 21 of the last 25 meetings, while Kansas is suffering through another disappointing season.

The Wildcats are enduring an uncharacteristically poor campaign themselves, as their streak of seven straight bowl appearances is in jeopardy following three consecutive defeats. In fairness, the losses came on the road against Texas and at home versus top-10 opponents in TCU and Oklahoma, but coach Bill Snyder - who notched his 200th career win against Kansas last season - is not making any excuses. “We’ve lost far too many games,” Snyder told reporters. “I tell them I’m tired of having to come to the locker room under such circumstances.” Kansas has lost six straight since Week 1 and has been outscored 88-0 in its last two games.

ABOUT KANSAS STATE (3-4, 1-3 Big 12): The Wildcats led by 14 points early against the powerful Sooners and were tied with less than 10 seconds remaining in the contest before Oklahoma scored the decisive touchdown. Alex Delton, making his second career start, was a crisp 12-of-14 for 144 yards and a touchdown while adding three more scores - and 142 yards - on the ground. Alex Barnes gained 108 yards on six carries, including a 75-yard TD on the second play of the game, but Kansas State could not overcome its defense, which allowed 619 total yards.
ABOUT KANSAS (1-6, 0-4): The Jayhawks suffered their 44th straight road loss Saturday with a 43-0 setback at TCU in which they managed a staggering 21 total yards of offense. They were outgained 305-3 by the Horned Frogs in the first half and continue to struggle in every facet of the game. During their six-game losing streak, the Jayhawks have given up 45, 42, 56, 65, 45 and 43 points, and their best offensive player - running back Khalil Herbert - gained only eight yards on six carries against TCU.

                              EXTRA POINTS

                              1. In the last two games, Kansas QB Peyton Bender has gone 15-of-35 for 56 yards, with his longest completion going for 13 yards.

                              2. Barnes had 10 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown against Kansas last season in a 34-19 triumph.

                              3. Every game remaining on Kansas State's schedule is either a road contest or a home date against a top-25 opponent.

PREDICTION: Kansas State 31, Kansas 13
