Monday Night Football Betting Preview and Odds: Lions at Packers

Matthew Stafford has averaged a team-best 5.2 yards per carry this season while Ameer Abdullah leads in attempts and yards for the Lions, who rank 28th in rushing yards per game.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers (+2, 43.5)

The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions are attempting to address issues with their respective offenses heading into Monday night's clash at Lambeau Field. The Packers have seen their high-octane offense take a significant hit with the loss of two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers (broken collarbone), while the Lions' issues deal with their inability to consistently convert in the red zone.

Brett Hundley answered a three-interception performance in relief of an injured Rodgers by completing just 12-of-25 passes for 87 yards and an interception in his first career start - a 26-17 loss to New Orleans on Oct. 22. The Packers had their bye the following week, with coach Mike McCarthy and Rodgers working with Hundley in a bid to address some issues with the team's 243.5-yard total offense in the near-two games since Rodgers was injured - 66.5 below their season average. Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 423 yards in last Sunday's 20-15 loss to Pittsburgh, but his team went 0-for-5 in the red zone and fell to 28th in the league in that situation as it settled for five field goals by Matt Prater. "Just not executing enough," Stafford told reporters. "Whether it’s me making a better throw or a guy making a catch or assignments in the run game - whatever it is, we’ve just got to execute better.”

      TV:
      8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

      POWER RANKINGS:
      Lions (0) - Packers (4) + home field (-3) = Packers +1

      LINE HISTORY:
The Lions opened as 2.5-point road chalk and money coming in on the Packers brought that line as low as +1 Sunday morning, before fading back to +2. The total hit the betting board at 43 and is up slightly to 43.5.

      WHAT SHARPS SAY:
"The Detroit Lions will look to overcome one of the ugliest stains in the NFL as they look to improve on a 1-25 mark as a virus in this series. With Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers watching from the sidelines the Packers will try an overcome an equally ugly 0-3 SU and ATS record at home in games they played without Rodgers the last time he broke his collarbone in 2013." - Marc Lawrence.

      INJURY REPORT:

Lions - RB Dwayne Washington (Questionable, Concussion), S Don Carey (Questionable, Knee), DE Ezekiel Ansah (Questionable, Knee), WR Kenny Golladay (Questionable, Hamstring), LB Paul Worrilow (Questionable, Knee), OT Rick Wagner (Questionable, Ankle), OT Greg Robinson (Questionable, Ankle), OT Emmett Cleary (Questionable, Ankle), OT Taylor Decker (Questionable, Shoulder), G Tim Lelito (I-R, Thigh).

Packers - TE Martellus Bennett (Questionable, Shoulder), S Kentrell Brice (Questionable, Ankle), DT Quinton Dial (Questionable, Chest), LS Taybor Pepper (Questionable, Foot), LB Joe Thomas (Questionable, Ankle), S Morgan Burnett (Questionable, Hamstring), LB Ahmad Brooks (Questionable, Back), G Lane Taylor (Questionable, Ankle), LB Jake Ryan (Questionable, Migraine), OT Jason Spriggs (Questionable, Hamstring), CB Demetri Goodson (Questionable, Knee), LB Vince Biegel (Questionable, Monday)

      ABOUT THE LIONS (3-4 SU, 3-4 ATS, 4-3 O/U):
Golden Tate didn't let an ailing shoulder slow him down as he recorded seven receptions for the second straight game last Sunday, while Marvin Jones Jr. made six catches for the third consecutive contest, amassing 128 yards in the process. While the passing game traditionally has clicked under Stafford, Detroit's ground attack has been running in place as it has been 59 contests since the team had a 100-yard rusher (Reggie Bush versus Green Bay in 2013). Stafford actually has averaged a team-best 5.2 yards per carry this season while Ameer Abdullah leads in attempts (101) and yards (369) for the Lions, who rank 28th in rushing yards per game (82.1) and yards per attempt (3.48).

      ABOUT THE PACKERS (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS, 4-3 O/U):
Hundley admitted a comfort level working with Rodgers as he prepares for his second career start. "Me and Aaron talk a lot," Hundley told reporters on Thursday. "Even when he was playing, we still talked a lot. It's the same - now it's a different type of talk. He's telling me stuff, and it's good for me. Aaron's always been a brother to me. Whenever you have people like that around, you always feel better." Jordy Nelson is tied for second in the NFL with six receiving touchdowns, but the stud wideout was limited to just one catch for 13 yards against the Saints while Randall Cobb has reeled in just five passes for 43 yards over the last two games.

      TRENDS:

      * Lions are 1-7 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

      * Under is 5-1 in Lions last 6 vs. NFC North.

      * Under is 5-1 in Packers last 6 games following a bye week.

      * Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

      * Lions are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Green Bay.

      CONSENSUS:
The road fave Lions are picking up 65 percent of the action on the spread and Under is grabbing 61 percent of the totals selections.

        Preview: Celtics at Hawks

        Gracenote
        Nov 6, 2017

One night after ending their eight-game losing streak, the Atlanta Hawks will attempt to halt the visiting Boston Celtics' string of eight straight wins when the teams meet on Monday. The Celtics pulled away from Orlando and posted a 104-88 victory on Sunday to extend the streak, which is their longest since a nine-gamer in 2010-11.

Opponents are averaging only 90.3 points during the surge, and only three have been within single digits at the final horn. The Hawks will be playing just their fourth home game and make their return to Philips Arena after picking up a 117-115 win at Cleveland on Sunday. Dennis Schroder led seven players in double figures with a season high-tying 28 points as Atlanta won for the first time since its season opener at Dallas on Oct. 18. "To get a win in Cleveland is not easy to do," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters. "They had a chance down the stretch where they got back in it, but I'm happy for our guys. It's a good win."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN Boston, FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (8-2): Jaylen Brown led six players in double figures against Orlando with 18 points while Al Horford posted the team's lone double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Horford also made all three of his 3-point attempts and has hit 7-of-7 over the last two games while averaging 17 points and nine boards. The 31-year-old, who spent his first nine seasons with the Hawks, averaged 6.7 points on 32 percent shooting in three games (two losses) against Atlanta last season.

ABOUT THE HAWKS (2-8): All five starters scored at least 14 points in Sunday's win and Atlanta continued to get solid production out of rookie forward John Collins. The Wake Forest product recorded 12 points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots in only 24 minutes against the Cavaliers while finishing with a team-high rating of plus-15. Schroder is averaging 22 points in five games since returning from an ankle injury, making 10-of-19 3-pointers after going 1-of-9 from beyond the arc in his first three contests.

        BUZZER BEATERS

        1. The Celtics have outrebounded their opponent six straight times.

        2. Hawks G Malcolm Delaney (ankle), F Ersan Ilyasova (knee), C Miles Plumlee (quadriceps) and F DeAndre' Bembry (wrist) all missed Sunday's game.

        3. Atlanta C Dewayne Dedmon is averaging 12 points in 22.5 minutes while making 11-of-15 shots over his last two games.

        PREDICTION: Celtics 102, Hawks 94

            Preview: Nets at Suns

            Gracenote
            Nov 6, 2017

The Brooklyn Nets were an early surprise team in the NBA this season, but they did all of their damage at home. The road has been a very different story for the Nets, who will try to reverse that trend when they continue a five-game trip against the Phoenix Suns on Monday.

Brooklyn opened the trek with a 124-112 loss at the Los Angeles Lakers to fall to 0-4 on the road, where it has given up an average of 124 points and lost by an average of 11.5 this season. "Our biggest thing this year is just playing defense," swingman Allen Crabbe told the New York Post. "We keep preaching it, but we've got to make improvements over there, man, because we gave up 120 (points) again. Individually and collectively, that's one of the main things we have to do." The Suns completed a 2-3 road trip - which included an eight-point victory at Brooklyn on Tuesday - with a 112-95 loss at San Antonio on Sunday. Devin Booker, who scored 32 points in the win over the Nets, was limited to a season-low nine in the setback.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), FSN Arizona Plus (Phoenix)

ABOUT THE NETS (3-6): Crabbe scored a season-high 25 points in the loss to the Lakers after producing a total of 13 in 76 minutes over his previous three contests. Leading rebounder Trevor Booker missed the game with a sore back and Brooklyn was beaten on the glass by a 57-43 margin. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has produced back-to-back 21-point efforts and D'Angelo Russell, who scored 33 versus Phoenix last week, is averaging a team-high 21.1.

ABOUT THE SUNS (4-6): Booker was 3-of-11 from the floor and committed four turnovers in 26 rocky minutes on Sunday, and the starting five struggled as a whole. The second unit helped Phoenix win the second quarter by a 12-point margin and it finished a combined 18-of-32, with big man Alex Len making all five of his shot attempts and Troy Daniels burying 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Phoenix will be opening a six-game homestand Monday and will play nine of its next 10 overall contests at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

            BUZZER BEATERS

            1. Phoenix had a 66-44 rebounding advantage in the first meeting.

            2. Daniels is 9-of-13 from long range over a three-game stretch.

            3. Russell is 4-of-21 from 3-point distance over his last four games.

            PREDICTION: Suns 117, Nets 113

                Preview: Heat at Warriors

                Gracenote
                Nov 6, 2017

The Golden State Warriors seemed to put everything together on a dominant road trip and look to stay hot when they open a four-game homestand Monday against the Miami Heat. Following an eight-point loss to Detroit in their most recent home game on Oct. 29, the Warriors knocked off the Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio and Denver - three teams expected to be near the top of the Western Conference - by an average of 22.3 points.

Kevin Durant scored 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Golden State shot 54.9 percent overall in Saturday's 127-108 triumph at Denver. "Getting on the road was good for us," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters. "Sometimes you need to get on the road to feel more threatened. A team like this especially that's used to being successful. I thought we took a couple of home games for granted and we weren't defending, we weren't bring energy." The Heat will be playing the second half of a back-to-back for the first time this campaign after going 7-8 in such affairs a season ago. The double dip began with a solid 104-101 victory at the Clippers, with Hassan Whiteside's 21 points and 17 rebounds leading Miami to its first road win.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Miami), NBCSN Bay Area (Golden State)

ABOUT THE HEAT (4-5): While Whiteside shined, his fellow starters were 9-of-26 from the field, leaving plenty of slack for the bench to pick up. Tyler Johnson (19 points), Wayne Ellington (17) and James Johnson (14) were up to the task, although Miami squandered a 23-point lead in the fourth quarter before James Johnson's two free throws with eight seconds left putting the team ahead for good. Whiteside is averaging 15.7 points and 11.3 rebounds in three games since returning from a knee issue and registered 26 and 20 in his previous visit to Golden State on Jan. 10.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (7-3): Golden State often talked about some conditioning issues early in the season, but those appear to be a thing of the past, and as the players have found their legs, the shooting percentages have climbed. The Warriors hit a season-high 18 3-pointers at Denver and shot 47.4 percent from beyond the arc on the road trip. Durant is at 62.5 percent from the field over a four-game stretch during which the squad has shot at least 51.8 percent in every contest.

                BUZZER BEATERS

                1. Warriors SF Draymond Green is averaging 9.7 points on the season but has produced at least 15 in three straight games.

                2. Heat SG Dion Waiters missed Sunday's win as he remained in Miami for the birth of his daughter.

                3. The teams split two meetings last season, with the home club winning each time.

                PREDICTION: Warriors 120, Heat 104

After breaking even on their six-game homestand, the Minnesota Wild take to the road Monday as they begin a six-day, four-game trek against the Boston Bruins. Minnesota went 3-3-0 during its string at Xcel Energy Center, which concluded Saturday with a 2-0 setback against Chicago.

The Wild still do not possess a player with a double-digit point total, as defenseman Jared Spurgeon leads the club with nine. Boston is wrapping up a stretch during which it plays seven of eight games at TD Garden, and it has gone 3-1-2 in those home contests. Monday's matchup ends a three-game homestand that began Thursday with a 2-1 triumph over Vegas but saw the Bruins drop a 3-2 decision to Washington two days later. David Pastrnak pulled even with Brad Marchand for the team lead in goals, scoring twice in the loss to raise his season total to eight.

ABOUT THE WILD (5-5-2): Landon Ferraro's first stint with Minnesota came to an end Saturday as the center was assigned to Iowa of the American Hockey League after the loss to the Blackhawks. The 26-year-old son of former NHL forward Ray Ferraro, who recorded five goals and five assists in 58 games with Boston in 2015-16, had missed the Wild's last seven contests with a hip flexor injury but netted one tally in two matches prior to getting hurt. Chris Stewart still leads the team with six goals despite entering Monday with a six-game drought.

ABOUT THE BRUINS (5-4-3): Torey Krug apparently has rediscovered his offensive touch, collecting five points over his last three games after notching two in his first eight contests this season. The 26-year-old defenseman, who registered a career-high 51 points in 2016-17, has recorded a pair of assists in each of his last two games. Pastrnak's two-goal performance against Washington ended a four-game drought, marking the first time he tallied since scoring twice versus Buffalo on Oct. 21.

                              OVERTIME

                              1. Pastrnak leads the Bruins with three power-play goals but owns the second-worst plus/minus rating on the team among forwards at minus-7.

                              2. Minnesota C Eric Staal is three assists shy of 500 for his career.

                              3. Boston assigned G Zane McIntyre to Providence of the NHL on Sunday.

                              PREDICTION: Bruins 4, Wild 1
