Monday Night Football Betting Preview and Odds: Texans at Ravens

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens (-7.5, 38)

Entering the weekend in possession of the final playoff slot in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens will face one of the teams trying to overtake them when they host the Houston Texans on Monday night. Baltimore moved back to the .500 mark last week with a 23-0 win at Green Bay, becoming the first team since 2003 to register three shutouts in a season.

"Defense, obviously, was off the charts," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said after his team forced five turnovers and registered six sacks. "That's about as good as you can play on defense." Baltimore has won nine straight prime-time games -- the longest active streak in the NFL -- and is 11-1 under the lights since Harbaugh took over the coaching reins. Much-maligned Texans quarterback Tom Savage, benched after Week 1 before replacing an injured Deshaun Watson prior to Week 9, earned his first victory of the season in last week's 31-21 win over Arizona. “It’s all about mental toughness out there,” Savage said. "As a quarterback, your team needs you out there to be the leader, so I am going to just go out there and keep slinging it and play confident."

      TV:
      8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

      POWER RANKINGS:
      Texans (5) - Ravens (1) + home field (-3) = Ravens -7.

      LINE HISTORY:
The Ravens opened as low as 6.5-point home chalk and by the end of the week the line was up to -7.5. The total hit the betting board at 38 at most shops and has yet to move off the opening number.

      WEATHER REPORT:

42 degrees at kickoff - wind and chance of precipitation are negligible.

      INJURY REPORT:

Texans - WR DeAndre Hopkins (Probable, Foot), RB Alfred Blue (Probable, Hamstring), DE Jadeveon Clowney (Questionable, Ankle), LB Dylan Cole (Questionable, Hamstring), OT Julien Davenport (Questionable, Shoulder), G Greg Mancz (Questionable, Knee), WR Chris Thompson (Questionable, Knee), CB Kevin Johnson (Questionable, Concussion), WR Will Fuller V (Out, Ribs), RB D'Onta Foreman (I-R, Achilles).

Ravens - LB C.J. Mosley (Probable, Ankle), RB Terrance West (Probable, Calf), LB Terrell Suggs (Questionable, Ankle), G Jermaine Eluemunor (Questionable, Shoulder), OT Austin Howard (Questionable, Knee), CB Jimmy Smith (Questionable, Achilles), OT Ronnie Stanley (Questionable, Concussion).

      ABOUT THE TEXANS (4-6 SU, 6-4 ATS, 6-4 O/U):
Savage is coming off his best outing of the season, throwing for 230 yards and a pair of scores against Arizona, but he also has committed six turnovers in the past two games. Rookie D'Onta Foreman rushed for a season-high 65 yards and two TDs before suffering a season-ending torn left Achilles last week, but Lamar Miller is a dual threat who has scored three times over the past four games and leads the team with 604 yards on the ground. DeAndre Hopkins is having a strong bounce-back campaign with 62 receptions and an NFL-best nine touchdowns through 10 games. Houston is vulnerable through the air, ranking 26th at 252.8 yards per game allowed.

      ABOUT THE RAVENS (5-5 SU, 5-4-1 ATS, 6-4 O/U):
Baltimore managed only 219 yards of total offense in blanking Green Bay and features the league's worst passing attack with an average of 165.2 yards per game. Quarterback Joe Flacco has thrown more interceptions (11) than touchdown passes (nine), and the lack of explosiveness is reflected in the fact that running back Javorius Allen and veteran tight end Ben Watson are 1-2 on the team in receptions. Running back Alex Collins went over 100 yards in a 40-0 rout of Miami on Oct. 26 but has been limited to 49 yards or fewer in three of the past four games. The Ravens are yielding 17.1 points per game and have posted a league-high 16 interceptions.

      TRENDS:

      * Texans are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 Monday games.

      * Ravens are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Monday games.

      * Over is 9-1 in Texans last 10 games following a ATS win.

      * Over is 5-1 in Ravens last 6 games overall.

      * Home team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

      CONSENSUS:
The public is siding with the home chalk Ravens at a rate of 54 percent and the Over is getting 55 percent of the totals action.

                Preview: Magic at Pacers

                Gracenote
                Nov 26, 2017

The Indiana Pacers were riding a five-game winning streak before running into the NBA-best Boston Celtics on Saturday, and they got a good look at what they need to do to move up in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers will try to put some of those lessons into practice and embark on another winning streak when they host the Orlando Magic on Monday.

Indiana committed 20 turnovers and allowed the Celtics to shoot 56.3 percent from the field in Saturday's 108-98 setback. "Their team showed us tonight that there's another level in the NBA that you have to get to and that's what we're working towards," Pacers coach Nate McMillan told reporters. "Building and being able to play with that type of pressure defensively, play with the same pace offensively, we're trying to get there. I think our guys have been working hard and have been doing some good things, but you can't have 20 turnovers against a good team." Indiana won't see the same type of defensive pressure against the Magic, who are losers of eight straight and are coming off a 130-111 setback at Philadelphia -- the fourth time during the slide that they surrendered at least 124 points. "I'm looking for answers as well because this streak is tough for all of us," Orlando swingman Evan Fournier told the team's website. "Coaches, players -- mentally it's difficult. It's super early in the season, but it feels like February. So, it's hard, man, it's hard."
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Orlando), FS Indiana

ABOUT THE MAGIC (8-12): Orlando is allowing an average of 117 points during its eight-game slide, plummeting the team to 28th in the NBA in scoring defense (109.5) on the season. "We'll break out of this," power forward Aaron Gordon, who suggested the defensive issues might have to do with technique, told reporters. "We can't panic, and we have to stay composed. It's that balance of not panicking, but at the same time playing very urgent." The Magic were playing their fifth game in eight days on Saturday and the visit to Indiana marks the end of a four-game road trip.
ABOUT THE PACERS (11-9): Indiana was missing leading scorer Victor Oladipo (knee) on Saturday, and it could have used his athleticism on the defensive end as the Boston backcourt of Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier combined to go 25-of-37 from the floor. "We're a team that does it by committee," power forward Thaddeus Young told the team's website. "Any time any guy goes down, we notice an absence, but we have a lot of guys who can step in and play." Oladipo, who is averaging 22.8 points, had x-rays on the knee come back negative but is dealing with some swelling and is considered day-to-day.

                BUZZER BEATERS

                1. Pacers SG Bojan Bogdanovic is 1-of-8 from 3-point range over the last two games after knocking down 11-of-17 from beyond the arc in the previous two contests.

                2. Magic C Nikola Vucevic recorded a double-double in each of his last four games.

                3. Indiana took the last five meetings in the series, including a 105-97 win at Orlando on Nov. 20.

                PREDICTION: Pacers 116, Magic 111

                    Preview: Cavaliers at 76ers

                    Nov 26, 2017

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to put a heavy burden on superstar LeBron James, who is proving he is up for the challenge. James will try to lead the Cavaliers to their eighth straight win when they visit the surging Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

Cleveland needed 27 points, 16 rebounds and 13 assists from James to squeeze by with a 100-99 win over Charlotte on Friday, and he added three blocked shots to a team defensive effort that ended up with the Hornets shooting 38.3 percent in the contest. James logged 40 minutes in the win to mark the eighth time in 19 games that he reached the 40-minute mark, and he is averaging 37.7 minutes while shooting 58 percent from the field. The 76ers are keeping their star players on a tighter limit as far as playing time is concerned but are winners of three straight and five of their last six after blowing out the Orlando Magic 130-111 on Saturday. Philadelphia held rookie sensation Ben Simmons out of that game due to elbow soreness and hope to have the nightly triple-double threat back on Monday.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Ohio (Cleveland), NBCS-Plus Philadelphia

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (12-7): Cleveland's winning streak is being accomplished without the services of point guard Derrick Rose, who is third on the team in scoring (14.3) but missed the last eight games with an ankle injury and is reportedly away from the team while evaluating his future. "We want, whatever he decides to do, we want the best for him," James told reporters of Rose. "At the end of the day, you can't substitute nothing for happiness. And obviously, we know the injuries that he's been going through his whole career. We hope this ain't the end, but if it is, I was happy I got an opportunity to spend a couple months with him and watch him be the great point guard that he once was." Veteran Jose Calderon is filling in as the starting point guard of late, but James is doing the bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to running the offense.
ABOUT THE 76ERS (11-7): Philadelphia brought in JJ Redick on a one-year contract over the summer to provide a veteran presence in the locker room and a deadly shooter on the court, and he went off for 29 points in Saturday's win. Redick buried six of his eight 3-pointers in the first half and finished 10-of-18 from the floor while reaching the 20-point plateau for the third time in the last four games. "I kind of blacked out there in the second quarter," Redick told reporters. "I feel like when you hit a couple shots in a row, the ball is like a magnet, and your teammates are looking for you."

                    BUZZER BEATERS

                    1. Cavaliers PF Kevin Love recorded a double-double in each of the last three games and five of the last seven.

                    2. Philadelphia PG T.J. McConnell started in place of Simmons on Saturday and recorded season highs of 15 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds.

                    3. Cleveland is enjoying a nine-game winning streak in the series and took the three meetings last season by an average of 7.3 points.

                    PREDICTION: 76ers 110, Cavaliers 107

While the Cleveland Cavaliers are charging fast, the early Eastern Conference front-runners will be meeting Monday in Boston, where the league-leading Celtics host the upstart Detroit Pistons. After its 16-game winning streak was halted last week in Miami, Boston picked itself up off the mat in a hurry with an easy triumph over Orlando and an impressive road victory one night later at Indiana - which had won five straight - without two starters.

Kyrie Irving scored 25 points as the Celtics again shook off a slow start with an impressive showing after halftime. "We were just being resilient as usual," Irving told reporters. "We were able to limit some things (in the third quarter) and we made our push." The Pistons were throttled by the Cavaliers two games ago but bounced back in fine fashion with a late rally and a 99-98 win at Oklahoma City on Friday. Like the Celtics, Detroit had to erase a big deficit, riding six double-digit scorers and a strong defensive effort that held the Thunder to 39 second-half points.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, NBCSN Boston

ABOUT THE PISTONS (12-6): Detroit's rally from 15 points down at Oklahoma City was the latest in a series of dramatic comebacks for a squad that has already registered seven wins in which it trailed by double digits. "We're just finding a way. It's not pretty, but we're just playing and trusting the game. The games will tell us what to do," guard Reggie Jackson told the Detroit Free Press. "That's something we're matured in, letting the game tell us what to do and being aggressive. We're not going to force the game, but playing basketball the right way — and it's been working out." Center Andre Drummond led the way on the stat sheet with 17 points and 14 rebounds for his 13th double-double, tied for the lead in the Eastern Conference.

ABOUT THE CELTICS (18-3): Guard Jaylen Brown missed the 108-98 win at Indiana on Saturday to attend a funeral in Georgia, while forward Marcus Morris was given off the second half of a back-to-back in order to rest his knee. Both are expected to return for Monday's contest, which is the opener of a five-game homestand and the beginning of a stretch in which Boston plays 14 of 21 at TD Garden. Al Horford, who snapped a string of four straight single-digit scoring performances with 21 against the Pacers, is shooting 62.3 percent from the field at home, compared to 48.4 on the road.

                        BUZZER BEATERS

                        1. Celtics PG Marcus Smart, who is shooting 29.1 percent for the season, started in place of Brown on Saturday and shot 7-for-8 en route to 15 points.

                        2. This marks the return to Boston for former Celtic Avery Bradley, who was twice an All-Defensive team selection in seven seasons before being traded for Morris in July.

                        3. Boston won three of four meetings last season, splitting the two matchups at home.

                        PREDICTION: Celtics 107, Pistons 98

                            Preview: Trail Blazers at Knicks

The New York Knicks hope to have star forward Kristaps Porzingis back in action when they try to bounce back from an 0-2 road trip with a home matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. Porzingis, who has already had elbow and ankle issues this season, sat out Saturday's 117-102 loss at Houston due to a back injury.

He was joined on the sidelines by center Enes Kanter (back), leaving New York without its leading scorer (Porzingis) and rebounder (Kanter) against the top team in the Western Conference. "They can score in bunches, and we knew that we'd to have to play -- especially, without two of our starters -- almost a perfect game," Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek told the media. "I thought our guys played hard and good for a huge portion of the game, but that's a good team, and they know how to get those 3s off." The Trail Blazers don't shoot nearly as many 3-pointers as the Rockets but they are among the more accurate teams in the league and a late triple by CJ McCollum sparked a game-ending 10-0 run in a 108-105 victory at Washington on Saturday. Portland is 3-1 on its five-game road trip.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN Northwest (Portland), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (12-8): Portland's comeback from 17 points down in the fourth quarter put the team a season-best four games above .500 and should be a rallying point going forward. "Anytime you win a game like this, it's definitely a momentum-shifter," forward Moe Harkless told The Oregonian. "And to come in here and do what we did (Saturday) on the road is especially, I think, big time. I think we can take this energy and carry it over." Damian Lillard scored 29 points and is averaging 31 on the road trip.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (10-9): Porzingis may have needed a day off anyway, as his absence comes after a six-game stretch in which the 7-3 Latvian averaged 21.7 points - nearly six below his season average - while shooting 37.5 percent. Veteran reserve Michael Beasley (season highs of 30 points and eight rebounds) and backup center Kyle O'Quinn (season highs of 20 points and 15 boards) did well to fill in for Porzingis and Kanter, but New York didn't have the bodies to withstand Houston's charge in the third quarter. "We have a gritty team and a young team that has to learn how to put it together for two halves," Beasley told reporters. "It's not the first time we've blown a big lead, but we are just learning, and I'm definitely proud of my fellas."

                            BUZZER BEATERS

                            1. McCollum scored 26 points in back-to-back games after a season-low five on 1-of-14 shooting at Philadelphia on Wednesday.

                            2. New York owns an NBA-leading nine home wins while averaging 109.4 points, compared to 96.6 on the road (1-6).

                            3. Porzingis averaged 24.5 points and nine rebounds while Lillard had 26 points and 5.5 assists as the teams split two meetings last season.

                            PREDICTION: Blazers 110, Knicks 107

                                Nov 26, 2017

The Houston Rockets have barely been tested in a four-game winning streak and have a great chance to extend their run when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. The four straight victories have come by an average of 23.3 points with Saturday's 117-102 triumph over the New York Knicks the closest affair of the bunch.

James Harden continued his MVP-caliber pace with 37 points and 10 assists and the reserves provided 44 points - led by Ryan Anderson's 17 - as Houston came from behind to win for the 10th time in 11 games overall. "That's what a team is about - the starters aren't always going to get it done," Harden told reporters. "The bench came in with that energy, we started trimming the deficit down, and in the second half, we put on a show, defensively, especially in the third quarter." The Nets snapped a three-game slide with a 98-88 win at Memphis on Sunday in the opener of a three-game road trip. Expect 3-pointers to be fired up at a furious pace in this one; Houston leads the NBA in long-range attempts per game (44.3), while Brooklyn ranks second (33.4).

TV: 8 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston)

ABOUT THE NETS (7-12): DeMarre Carroll's season-high 24 points led the way in Sunday's victory as Brooklyn improved to 3-3 on the road against the Western Conference after going 4-11 last season. The victory came with a shorthanded lineup as guard Allen Crabbe was a late scratch with a back issue and swingman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson left in the second quarter with a sprained ankle. Forward Trevor Booker, who recently dealt with an ankle injury of his own, finished with 16 points and 11 boards for his first double-double since Oct. 20.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (15-4): Chris Paul has been able to increase his minutes each time out since returning from a knee injury on Nov. 16, and the nine-time All-Star has shown little rust, although he did struggle to 2-of-12 shooting Saturday. Paul has 25 assists, five steals and two turnovers in his last two games, and he hit 10-of-18 from 3-point range prior to the win over the Knicks. Center Clint Capela notched his 12th double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds in the victory and the fourth-year pro has shot 54.5 percent or better in all 19 contests.

                                BUZZER BEATERS

                                1. Harden averages 33.9 points while shooting 41.1 percent from 3-point range at home.

                                2. Nets SG Caris LeVert is 8-for-17 from beyond the arc over his last six games after going 10-for-47 through his first 13 contests.

                                3. Houston won both meetings last season while averaging 129.5 points.

                                PREDICTION: Rockets 123, Nets 99
