Scott Spreitzer's Picks For Major League Baseball

4-Unit Play: Take 953 Pirates -140 over Marlins (1:10 p.m., Sunday, April 15)
I'm backing the Pirates with Nova over Urena on Sunday. Pittsburgh won Saturday's matchup 1-0 to improve to 10-4 on the season and the surprising Pirates are in first place in the NL Central. Miami dropped to 4-10, including 3-8 at home and the Marlins are last in the NL East. Ivan Nova did not allow a run in 15 innings against the Marlins last year and that was when they had some great hitters. Now the Marlins have been decimated and they have lost eight of their last 10 games and they are 8-20 in Jose Urena'a last 28 home starts. Nova comes off an 8-5 win over the Cubs while allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings. Meanwhile, Urena is 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA and Miami has lost all three of his starts. The Pirates have won six of eight on the road and 13 of their last 17 overall dating to last season. I'm backing the Pirates on Sunday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.
