    Preview: Kings at Blues

The St. Louis Blues struggled to locate their offense during their just-completed three-game road trip, getting shut out on two occasions to return to Enterprise Center for Monday's contest against the Los Angeles Kings with their tail between their legs. The Blues answered a 4-1 win at Vegas on Friday with a 4-0 setback in San Jose the following night to fall to 1-3-0 in their last four outings.

"We just can't keep coming and saying, 'OK, it's good one night' and 'it's not good the next night.' We have to demand it of ourselves that we bring it night after night for 60 minutes," St. Louis coach Mike Yeo told reporters. The loss to the Sharks dropped the Blues to 4-2-0 against Pacific Division foes, but St. Louis has won six of the last eight encounters with Los Angeles. The Kings fell for the fourth time in five games with a 5-3 setback to Nashville to drop to 1-5-0 versus Central Division representatives. "Again, it comes down to the specialty teams," said Los Angeles coach Willie Desjardins, whose team has the 29th-ranked power play and 22nd-ranked penalty kill. "It's something I do believe that we can be better in that. We'll get that part going."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS West (Los Angeles), FS Midwest (St. Louis)

ABOUT THE KINGS (6-12-1): With Trevor Lewis (fractured foot) listed as week-to-week, Los Angeles recalled fellow forward Austin Wagner from Ontario of the American Hockey League on Sunday. The 21-year-old Wagner made his NHL debut with the Kings on Oct. 5 and has failed to score in eight games with the club this season. Rookie Cal Petersen, who is the fourth goaltender that Los Angeles has used in 2018-19, has turned aside 72 shots in his last two contests.

ABOUT THE BLUES (7-8-3): Ryan O'Reilly, who leads St. Louis in goals (10), assists (13) and points (23), was held off the scoresheet in two meetings with the Kings in 2017-18. Brayden Schenn has yet to score a goal in the Gateway City this season, but has registered all six of his assists at home. The 27-year-old Schenn has just two tallies in 10 career encounters against Los Angeles, which selected him with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft.

    OVERTIME

    1. Los Angeles captain C Anze Kopitar, who scored the decisive goal in the shootout of Friday's 2-1 win over Chicago, snapped a career high-tying five-game point drought the following night by recording a goal and an assist.

    2. Blues G Jake Allen owns a 5-2-0 mark with one shutout, a 1.94 goals-against average and .939 save-percentage in eight career games (seven starts) against the Kings.

    3. Cardinals OF Harrison Bader will drop the ceremonial puck before Monday's game.

    PREDICTION: Blues 2, Kings 1

      Preview: Lightning at Predators

The Nashville Predators look to continue their mastery in the series when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night in a battle of the top two teams in the NHL. The Predators are 8-0-2 in the last 10 meetings with the Lightning after earning a 4-1 win on Nov. 1 as goalie Pekka Rinne improved to 8-0-1 against Tampa Bay with 42 saves in his first game back from injury.

Nashville has been up and down since that victory, but snapped a three-game slide (0-2-1) with a 5-3 victory over Los Angeles on Saturday as forward Calle Jarnkrok recorded a hat trick. “I’ve got to give our guys in the room a lot of credit because we fell behind a few times and just stayed persistent and stayed consistent with our game and didn’t stop, and by the end we were able to catch up and then take the lead,” Predators coach Peter Laviolette told reporters after the win. The Lightning took an alternate route to victory Saturday while taking a four-goal lead, coughing it up and getting an overtime goal from Anthony Cirelli for a 6-5 win at Philadelphia to improve to 2-1-0 on their four-game trip. “I think we kind of stopped skating a little bit,” Cirelli told reporters. “They were kind of pouring it on, playing fast, having their (defensemen) jump. … At the end of the day, we’ve just got to be better and compete for a full 60.”

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Tampa Bay), FS Tennessee (Nashville)

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (14-5-1): The “fourth” line of Adam Erne, Cedric Paquette and Ryan Callahan combined to register two goals and three assists in Saturday’s victory - a game in which Tampa Bay was outshot 45-26. “I thought that line really was the catalyst for why we had the lead,” coach Jon Cooper told reporters. “I know the power play got a couple there but they were the line that really I thought got us going. It was great to see they were getting on the scoresheet.” Center Brayden Point has five of his team-leading 14 goals in the last two games and right wing Nikita Kucherov owns five of his team-best 16 assists in the same span.

ABOUT THE PREDATORS (14-5-1): Jarnkrok doubled his goal total in Saturday’s win and became the second player in franchise history to record a power play, shorthanded and even-strength goal in the same game, joining Scott Walker (2000). “He’s an important player in here, whether it’s offensively or defensively,” Nashville defenseman Ryan Ellis told reporters of Jarnkrok. “You put him out on the power play and he showed what he can do. He got us going when we needed it, and we got some big goals from him.” Linemates Filip Forsberg and Ryan Johansen lead the team with 18 points apiece, but have none in the last two games.

      OVERTIME

      1. The Lightning have given up seven power-play goals in 14 attempts the last four games and scored seven in the same stretch.

      2. Nashville C Nick Bonino has scored in back-to-back contests after coming up empty in the first 18 games of the season.

      3. Tampa Bay LW Alex Killorn is riding a career-high five-game assist streak with six total in that span.

      PREDICTION: Predators 4, Lightning 3

        Preview: Golden Knights at Flames

Elias Lindholm is making quite an impression in his first season with the Calgary Flames as he shares the team lead with 21 points. The 23-year-old Swedish forward hopes to take sole possession of the top spot when the Flames continue their four-game homestand Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Lindholm, who was acquired from Carolina in a five-player deal on June 23, grabbed the team lead in goals on Saturday by netting a pair of tallies - including the game-winner as Calgary overcame a two-goal deficit to post a 4-2 triumph over Edmonton. With 11 goals, he is six away from matching the career high he set in 2014-15 with the Hurricanes. Vegas kicked off its three-game road trip in impressive fashion as Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals and set up another in Sunday's 6-3 triumph at Edmonton. Marchessault, who ended a three-game drought, leads the Golden Knights with 10 tallies and 18 points.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Vegas), Sportsnet West (Calgary)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (9-11-1): Nate Schmidt made his season debut on Sunday after serving a 20-game suspension for violating the NHL's performance-enhancing drug use policy. The 27-year-old defenseman, who recorded 36 points in 76 games during Vegas' inaugural season, registered two shots, one hit and a plus-1 rating in 19 minutes, 38 seconds of ice time. Cody Eakin scored in the win over Edmonton, giving him five goals and seven points in his last seven games.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (11-8-1): Lindholm is even in points with Matthew Tkachuk and Sean Monahan, who scored a goal and set up another in the win over the Oilers. Johnny Gaudreau halted his four-game point drought by notching an assist on Saturday. The 25-year-old left wing, who is a four-time All-Star and the recipient of the 2017 Lady Byng Trophy, recorded a goal and six assists during a five-game point streak prior to his slump.

        OVERTIME

        1. Flames G David Rittich, who is 6-1-0 with a 1.92 goals-against average and .933 save percentage, is expected to be in the crease on Monday.

        2. Vegas D Colin Miller notched three assists on Sunday after registering six in his first 20 games this season.

        3. Calgary leads the league in third-period goals (32) and wins when trailing after two sessions (six).

PREDICTION: Flames 5, Golden Knights 2

          Preview: Jets at Canucks

The Winnipeg Jets found their rhythm in gaining seven points during a four-game homestand, and now look to carry that into a four-game road trip starting Monday against the Vancouver Canucks. The Jets, who won three times at home before losing in a shootout versus Buffalo on Friday, prepare to play seven of their next nine games on the road.

“I thought we really started to play our game, and we got contributions from everybody up and down the lineup,” Winnipeg forward Kyle Connor told reporters after the 2-1 loss to the Sabres. “I thought it was a full team effort throughout those four games.” Vancouver has faded since a strong start to the season, dropping a 3-2 decision to Montreal on Saturday to extend its losing streak to five games. “You’re going to play well and you’re going to lose some games when you play well, and you’re going to find a way to win games when you don’t play well,” Canucks coach Travis Green told the media after Friday’s defeat. Forward Jake Virtanen has not scored in his past two games, but already has eight goals on the season after scoring just 10 in 75 games a season ago.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, TSN3 (Winnipeg), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)

ABOUT THE JETS (11-5-2): Connor brings a five-game point streak (three goals) into the start of the road trip, scoring Winnipeg’s lone goal against Buffalo. Forward Blake Wheeler’s point streak ended at 11 games, but the captain tallied 18 assists during the streak and entered Sunday one off the league lead with 21. While the focus of late has been on improving 5-on-5 play, Winnipeg remains lethal on the power play, leading the NHL at 33.3 percent.

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (10-10-2): Vancouver continues to play without forward Brock Boeser, who has not resumed skating and is out of action since Nov. 2 with a groin injury. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has started four games during the Canucks losing streak, allowing 13 goals on 129 shots in defeats to Buffalo, the Rangers, the Islanders and Montreal. Center Elias Pettersson snapped a five-game goalless drought Saturday and leads Vancouver with 11 goals in 16 games.

          OVERTIME

          1. Vancouver recalled F Sam Gagner, a veteran of 770 NHL games, from Toronto of the American Hockey League on Sunday.

          2. The Jets have surrendered two or fewer goals in five of their past seven contests.

          3. Winnipeg C Mark Scheifele has seven points (four goals) in his past four games.

          PREDICTION: Jets 3, Canucks 2

1* Free Pick on Suns/Sixers UNDER
I don't see these two teams eclipsing the mark set by the books. This is a bit of a flat spot for the 76ers after Saturday's thrilling overtime win at Charlotte. All 5 starters for Philadelphia loved at least 30 minutes. I'm not saying they won't show up, but I don't see them playing at the pace needed to score 225+.
They won't need to against this Suns team. Phoenix is not a good offensive team and come in shooting a mere 43.7% from the field and 27.7% from deep on the road this season. UNDER has cashed in 6 of the Suns' last 7 vs the Eastern Conference and is 12-3 in their last 15 road games against a team that's won more than 60% of their home games.
UNDER is also 5-1-1 in the 76ers last 7 at home vs a team that's won fewer than 40% of their road games. Take the UNDER!

While the Rangers had yesterday off, the Stars are off a win against the Islanders. Thats noteworthy as they're already 0-2 this season when playing the second of b2b games. They lost those games by a combined score of 7-1, a 4-1 loss and a 3-0 loss. Going back further finds Dallas at just 9-15 the past 24 times it played the second of b2b games. During that same span, the Stars are also a horrible 18-43 (-23.8) when playing a road game with an O/U line of 5.5. The Rangers have been tough here at home. They're 7-3, allowing just 2.2 goals per game. At a pick'em price, consider NY.

These are 2 times that are currently headed in opposite directions. Pittsburgh has gone a dismal 1-8 against the money line through their last 9 games, and $100 bettors that backed the Penguins during that stretch lost a sizable $1205. Conversely, Buffalo will enter tonight riding a 5-game while playing 3 of those outings on enemy ice. Bettors placing $100 wager on Buffalo throughout this current hot stretch have profited $670. Carter Hutton is slated to be in goal for Buffalo on Monday, and he’s 4-0 in his last 4 starts with a superb .950 save percentage. Take Buffalo as a money line underdog pick.

I'll take my chances here with Utah cashing in a win on the road against the Pacers. Indiana will likely have to take the court without their best player, as Victor Oladipo is doubtful to play according to head coach Nate McMillan. That's the one guy they can't lose. He leads the team in scoring at 21.4 ppg (no other player averages more than 15 ppg). He also leads the team in assists (4.7 apg) and steals (1.6 spg), and is second in rebounding (6.6 rpg). Jazz will be motivated here to finish up their 5-game road trip with a winning record and are 24-12 ATS in their last 36 off a win by 10 or more (won at Boston 98-86 last time out). Give me Utah -2.5!
