    MLB | Braves vs Padres
Play on: Padres -103 at BMaker

    Dave’s Friday Free Play:
1* on San Diego Padres -103
The Key: The Padres won 3 straight as dogs at the Dodgers going into the break to get back to .500 on the season and put themselves in position to make a run at a wild card. I look for them to carry that momentum into this series with the Atlanta Braves. Dinelson Lamet is a great young talent with awesome stuff who struck out 7 batters in 5 innings against the Dodgers last time out. Dallas Keuchel is 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 2 road starts this season for the Braves as he has been much more effective at home. Lamet pitched 7 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over the Braves in his only lifetime start against them. Take San Diego.

Friday comp play will be on the Nationals and the Phillies to hold Under the posted total with Stephen Strasburg and Nick Pivetta on the bump.

Washington went to the All-Star Break trending Low, as they have played their last pair of games, 5 of 6, and 8 of their last 9 games Under the posted price.

Philadelphia went to the break riding a 4 game Over streak, so something must give this evening in the City of Brotherly Love.

Series numbers do show 3 of the last 4, and 4 of the past 6 played between the division-rivals having landed Under the posted total.

Strasburg is riding a string of 3 straight wins, 2 of those 3 starts holding Under the total, including his last start in which he blanked Miami into the 8th inning with just 2 hits and 14 strikeouts in a 3-1 victory.

Pivetta has been inconsistent this year, and has been hit hard twice already this season by the Nationals. Still, his last pair of starts have held Under the total, and the Under is 5-2 over his last 7 season starts.

Going to look for the Under trend the Nats are on to be the trend that gets the money here on Friday night.

      Washington-Philadelphia Under the total.

      2* WASHINGTON-PHILADELPHIA UNDER

My free play for Friday is on the Washington Nationals over the Philadelphia Phillies in a National League East battle. And be sure you're listing the scheduled starting pitchers in this game, as I like Stephen Strasburg to be much better than Nick Pivetta.

Wix Max Scherzer emerging as the staff ace, it's been nice to see Strasburg fly under the radar this season. But the power right-hander has taken the ball every time through the rotation, and has been an unassuming key component to the team's success this year.

Strasburg has made 18 starts for the Nationals, and has recorded an N.L. second-best 138 strikeouts while twirling 116 1/3 innings. He's 10-4 with a 3.64 ERA, and should have no trouble neutralizing Philadelphia's inconsistent lineup.

Meanwhile, the Phillies will hand the ball to Pivetta, who has been just as inconsistent as his teammates have been at the plate. The right-hander posted an 8.35 ERA in his first four starts this season before being optioned to Triple-A in April. He came back and looked promising by going 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his first three starts back, but then went 0-2 with a 7.33 ERA in four starts since.

Take the Nationals here, as they will roll to the win.

        2* NATIONALS (Strasburg over Pivetta)

Friday comp play on the Under in the Blue Jays-Yankees contest.

This total is about 2 runs too high!

Toronto comes to the Bronx having played Under the total in each of their last 3 games, and in 4 of their last 5 games overall, while New York has held Under in their last pair of games, and in 4 of their last 6 prior to the break.

The teams have met 6 times already this season, and there has been no clear-cut advantage for totals players, as the Over/Under is dead-even at 3-3.

Aaron Sanchez went to the break with some confidence, as he allowed just 2 runs in his 5 innings of work in an Under played in Baltimore.

Domingo German stands at 4-1 with a 2.37 ERA in his starts this season at Yankee Stadium.

Make no mistake, there will be some offense tonight in the Bronx, but with this total up there at 11 runs, I just don't see the teams pushing across enough to carry this game Over the total.

          Blue Jays-Yankees Under.

          3* TORONTO-N.Y. YANKEES UNDER

            COMPLIMENTARY WINNER

My free winner is on the Oakland Athletics over the Chicago White Sox, and I want you playing this game on the run line.

IMPORTANT: As you know every single Run Line play and Total wager will automatically list the scheduled starting pitchers at the time of the wager, and I want you to be sure the following pitchers are the registered starters on your ticket when making your wager: Mike Fiers over Ivan Nova. If one or both of these pitchers is not going, this is a no-play.

Let's start with Fiers, who gets the nod for the second half after ending the first half as one of the league's top performers. Fiers, who is 8-3 with a 3.87 ERA this season, has a 2.52 ERA since April 26, ranking fourth among America League starters in that span. He should dominate with confidence tonight, as he is 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in six career starts against the White Sox.

And he'll get the run support, which will get us the run line cover, against Nova, who ranks third from the bottom among all MLB qualifiers with a 5.58 ERA. The Sox's right-hander is just 4-7 with a 5.58 ERA this season, and I don't trust him in Oakland, where I think the Athletics could be the wild-card sleeper down the stretch.

5* ATHLETICS RUN LINE (Fiers over Nova)
