Both of these teams especially the Pistons could step up and make the top 5 in the Eastern Conference. We all know the Pacers are one of the better teams, but missing their superstar for a while is a huge question mark. I realize Blake Griffin is out tonight, but this line is is too many points. I won't call for the outright upset, but this Pistons team is better than what they are getting credit for.

This line has climbed a bit from its opener, providing some additional value with the home team. The Hornets took two of three meetings last season (both here) and finished ahead of the Bulls in the standings. So, why are the Bulls favored? Well, with Kemba Walker and others having moved on to greener pastures, the Hornets are probably in for a long season. The Bulls, on the other hand, are hoping to improve on last season. That said, this is opening night. There's going to be a lot of excitement in the building and the Charlotte players will be highly motivated to show that they can with with the new lineup. Remember, the Hornets were 25-16 here last season. While there is some talent on the roster, this is still essentially the same Chicago team which went 22-60 last season. Until they prove this year will be different, I don't feel they're ready to be favored on the road. Even here. Consider grabbing the points.

If you simply were to look at the offensive output of these two teams, chances are UNDER 6 would be pretty tempting. However, I believe the value is with the OVER, as we got two bad teams and should lead to a lot of scoring.
Note that Detroit has basically been giving up the total on their own of late. Red Wings gave up 5 goals last night at home to Vancouver. It was the 4th time in their last 5 games that they gave up 5 goals. Hard to see the defense improving on no rest.
Ottawa hasn't given up a ton of goals, but it's not because teams aren't getting good looks. Senators goalies have been playing out of their minds the last few, especially Anders Nilsson. That can only hold up for so long. I see these two easily getting to 7. Take the OVER!

NBA | Grizzlies vs Heat

It's easy to write off the Grizzlies since they have turned the page from the long-time, respected Mike Conley/Marc Gasol era. Memphis has a new coach, untested Taylor Jenkins, and is in rebuild mode. Miami, though, is nothing special. The Heat were just three games better than the Grizzlies last season, failing to make the playoffs at 39-43. That was the third time in the last five years the Heat didn't qualify for the postseason. The Heat have undergone change, too. Dwayne Wade retired. Underrated Josh Richardson is gone. So is Hassan Whiteside, their top rebounder and shot blocker. But Miami is getting some love because of Jimmy Butler. Yes, Butler definitely will be the best player on the court. Justice Winslow has upside. Bam Adebayo may be underrated. But Miami isn't that good of a team. The Heat also is dealing with a distraction brought about by idiot Dion Waiters ripping coach Erik Spoelstra. Waiters is suspended for this game cutting into Miami's bench and concentration level with his insubordination. I really like Memphis' young talent and athleticism. I believe the Grizzlies are below-the-radar at this opening juncture and present good value getting this many points against a borderline Eastern Conference playoff team that went 19-22 at home last season. The Grizzlies have an intriguing young nucleus of Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. Rookie Brandon Clarke could be good, too. Jackson and Jonas Valanciunas, who is expected to play, give the Grizzlies a big man edge. All in all, it's enough to back the Grizzlies in this matchup.

Kyrie Irving has gotten a bad rap in recent seasons. He forced his way out of Cleveland and wound up getting traded to the Boston Celtics. He didn’t choose to be there, and things just didn’t work out. But now he chose to be with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. He wants to be here, and I expect him to be ‘all in’ because of it.
The bad rap Irving is getting has many bettors fading the Nets early in the season. They opened as 5-point favorites here against the Timberwolves, and this line has been bet down to -3.5. I think there’s value on the Nets because of it and I expect them to win and cover in their home opener.
The Nets are still loaded with several key players from the team that went 42-40 and made the playoffs last year. They still have starters Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen returning, and all three should take a leap forward this year after solid seasons last year. They added C DeAndre Jordan, who is great friends with Irving and Kevin Durant, so the chemistry will be good. They also added underrated players in F Taurean Prince, Garrett Temple and Wilson Chandler, though Chandler will miss the opener due to suspension.
The Timberwolves went just 11-30 on the road last season. They still have stalwarts Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jeff Teague, and getting a full season of Robert Covington will be big for them. But I just don’t like the depth on this team as they lost Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Tyus Jones and Dario Saric in the offseason. They are expected to have to start Jake Layman, who was their biggest offseason acquisition, which is not good. Bet the Nets Wednesday.
