I'll gladly take my chances here with St Louis winning by 2 or more runs in Friday's season opener against the Pirates. St Louis is one of the favorites to win the NL Central (division odds +250), while Pittsburgh is the consensus pick to finish last (+6000 to win division). It's not just a matter of the Cardinals being the better team.
This is 100% based on the starting pitching matchup. St. Louis will send out Jack Flaherty, who has a 1.84 ERA and 0.932 WHIP over 7 career starts against the Pirates. In his last 4 starts against Pittsburgh he has allowed a mere 2 runs on 15 hits with 30 strikeouts in 28 innings of work.
On the flip side of this, Pirates' Joe Musgrove has gone 1-6 with a 7.05 ERA and 1.486 WHIP in 7 career starts against the Cardinals.
