    Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

    Pocono Downs - Race #2
#7 ANWAR HANOVER Can sustain rally and win with well-timed moved.
#5 LETTUCEROCKU A Looms forward factor in pace-less race with Napolitano as new pilot.
#4 BORDER CONTROL Rallied for third at this level two back, no threat from post 8 last week.
Race Summary Anwar Hanover made a middle move to a brief stretch lead against better last week. He finished third behind the 4-to-5 winner two starts prior. Play 7-4 and 7-5 exactas.
    Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #2
#7 NECTAR Career off to fast start, ride out the good form cycle.
#3 POTO HANOVER In range of sire stakes leader until stretch after starting from second tier.
#8 UPTOWN CALLIE Mild rally behind Nectar in return from ‘sick’ absence.
Race Summary Nectar validated her win over the 1-to-5 choice at Rideau Carleton when she rallied for second behind the pace-controlling favorite last week at the larger Woodbine-Mohawk Park oval. Play 7-3 and 7-8 exactas.
    Scioto Downs - Race #4
#2 ROSALIE SWAN Stayed flat, stayed after the favorite, settled for second best.
#9 GRACEFUL WINNER Just missed in 2 of last 3 starts against better, post the concern.
#8 AUNT LIL Burke firster ran well when she stayed flat in Meadows qualifiers, watch odds.
Race Summary Rosalie Swan willingly pursed the odds-on winner as the top two separated from the field. She remains risky with a prior breaking habit but should prove tough if she stays flat. Play a 2-9-ALL trifecta.

      Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

      Indiana Grand - Race #6
#1 Ruffolo His only start came in a much tougher spot at Tampa Bay, where he ran sixth in a sprint; he's more suited for longer distances and can lead the way in this one.
#2 Gigging Closed well at Oaklawn and Churchill, and it's not real easy to close on either of those much of the time; has been in good races and can make a run here.
#8 Tez Had narrow losses in his last two of this strip and can benefit from a lively pace; will be closing.
Race Summary Ruffolo gets the chance to stretch out to two turns again and can be a forward factor from the outset; can be effective at this level.
      Indiana Grand - Race #7
#10 The Sheik of Araby Has somewhat interesting running like after he broke his maiden at Belmont and then was off 1.5 year before returning to Churchill. He ran poorly in a sprint and then woke with two good turf tries at Ellis and Belterra. Capable of closing appreciable ground here.
#2 Overpraise Made a big run last time and wound up third; has settled into a relax-early running style over this last four and it has paid dividends.
#4 High Authority Drops to his lowest level after an even fourth at Ellis; likely fits for this price.
Race Summary The Sheik of Araby is back to good form after time off and a switch back o turf; comfortable at this level.
      Indiana Grand - Race #9
#3 Tresway Was up in time for a maiden win last time and is bred to get better with distance; this should be right in his wheel house.
#1 The Artful Dodger Runs well when he draws the rail as he had a win and second from that post; was second last time out and can be the one to catch.
#7 My Pillow Was third in both tries this year and drops to an allowance race after stakes appearances; big player.
Race Summary Tresway is well-bred and comes off a win at 330 yards. Stretches out to 400 and that should be to his liking.

MLB public betting, line movement, sharp money for July 28
                  Patrick Everson

Walker Buehler set for his first start (14-4, 3.26 ERA in 2019) vs. Houston on Tuesday. Follow the latest odds trends for all the day's MLB action.

MLB betting odds for Tuesday’s games are on the board and seeing early action, as baseball tries to beat back COVID-19. Among the highlights is the opener of a quickie two-game set between the L.A. Dodgers and the Houston Astros.

PointsBet USA’s Patrick Eichner provided insights on MLB opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Tuesday’s matchups. Covers will update this action report with MLB sharp picks vs. public bets and line movement throughout Tuesday.

                  MLB line movement

PointsBet USA opened the Dodgers -140 Monday night, and it didn’t take long for Los Angeles to reach -160, with Walker Buehler set for his first start (14-4, 3.26 ERA in 2019). The Astros, in turn, went from +120 to +135 home underdogs for a 9:10 p.m. ET start.

Later Monday, L.A. ticked back to -150 and Houston to +130.

The St. Louis Cardinals-Minnesota Twins tilt opened St. Louis -115 and host Minnesota even money, then flipped in pretty short order to Twins -125/Cards +105. First pitch is 8:10 p.m. ET.

And PointsBet USA opened the Atlanta Braves -145/Tampa Bay Rays +125, which didn’t hold up long at all, sprinting to Rays -131/Braves +110 for a 6:40 p.m. ET meeting in Tampa Bay.

                  MLB sharp money

Eichner said PointsBet USA saw early sharp money on the Twins, guiding Minnesota’s shift from underdog to favorite against St. Louis.

                        # 5 IN DISGUISE 7/5

                        # 4 PAULA'S PLAYLIST 2/1
IN DISGUISE has a competitive shot to take this race. Vazquez will most likely be able to get this filly to break out early in this event. Earning some good dough in dirt sprint contests. LADY FLY LIKE JET - She should have a good showing versus this softer lot. Could beat this group of horses given the 50 speed figure earned in her last outing. PAULA'S PLAYLIST - Has a strong shot in this event if you like back class. When a handler brings any horse back this soon it is a positive sign.

                          Louisiana Downs - Race #5 - Post: 4:55pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,000 Class Rating: 52

                          Rating:

                          #5 SWINGING GALAXY (ML=4/1)
                          #9 SWEET CHATAIN (ML=12/1)

SWINGING GALAXY - Schweda drops him down to this class level. You don't need too much more knowledge to think this animal has a darn good chance at this level. Faces state bred foes today after finishing fifth versus 'open' company on July 18th. I think this gelding is very ready right now. I like the fact that Schweda brings him back to a race so quickly. The 52 latest race fig looks good in black and white. SWEET CHATAIN - I have to figure Gomez is making a good move here. This colt can only benefit from the shorter distance.

                          Vulnerable Contenders: #2 COME ON ARCHIE (ML=5/2), #3 CAPONE'S LOFT (ML=3/1),

COME ON ARCHIE - Today's race is 5 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a short distance event in the last 60 days. Not the greatest of signs. CAPONE'S LOFT - Tough for anyone who saw this pony in his last clash to wager on him this time around. This steed ran a pedestrian speed rating last race out. He shouldn't run much better and will probably suffer defeat in today's race running that number.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - SWINGING GALAXY - After a mini 'vacation', has had a few races and today he enters a sprint race. Should be back in form, so I expect this thoroughbred to perform well in this event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #5 SWINGING GALAXY on the win end if we get at least 9/5 odds
                          EXACTA WAGERS: Box [5,9]

                            # 4 LIGHTNING FLASH 9/2
My choice in this competition is TARNISHED JUSTICE. May best this field here, showing strong figures of late. Is a solid contender - given the 76 Equibase speed fig from his most recent race. Trainer boasts very strong win numbers at this distance and surface. DUBULL - This gelding must be carefully examined just off the earnings per start in dirt route races alone. Has to be given a shot versus this field displaying respectable figs as of late and an average speed fig of 71 under similar conditions. LIGHTNING FLASH - Looks quite good against this group and will almost certainly be one of the front-runners.

                              Parx Racing - Race #4 - Post: 2:16pm - Maiden Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $21,000 Class Rating: 70

                              Rating:

                              #7 FROST'S SONG (ML=9/2)
                              #2 ALFATEI (ML=9/5)

FROST'S SONG - This equine wins a lot of dough per start. Number one in this event. ALFATEI - Dropping in Equibase class figure points from his April 30th race at Gulfstream Park. Based on that knowledge, I will give this animal the advantage. Sub-par effort in the last race at Gulfstream Park was due to the off-going (he ran sixth). Should do better right here in this race on a fast track. This colt's last speed figure registered on April 30th is at the top in last race Equibase speed figures.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 BURN AND TURN (ML=5/2), #4 TOMASCO (ML=6/1),

BURN AND TURN - You believe this horse is going to be victorious just because he's always close. Just doesn't finish on top frequently. TOMASCO - No picnic to wager on any questionable contender in a short distance affair if he hasn't finished in the money in a sprint in the last couple months.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #7 FROST'S SONG on the win end if we get at least 3/2 odds
