Wednesday free play on the Cardinals and the Twins to land Over the posted total.

Minnesota has won 3 of their first 4 games played on the young season and in those wins the Twins are averaging 10 runs per contest! The Twins hit over 300 home runs last year and have been mashing the ball already this season - new acquisition Josh Donaldson going yard for Minnesota last night!

The Twins have played Over the total in 3 of their 4 games so far this year, while the Cardinals enter at 2-2 in the Over/Under department and will send Daniel Ponce de Leon to the hill as he fills in for the injured Miles Mikolas.

de Leon is 0-4 in 12 career starts and each of his last 4 starts have all landed Over the total.

Rich Hill will go for Minnesota. He has had success against the Cards in his career, as he enters with a 3-1 career mark in 8 games, but his ERA is over 5 when facing St. Louis.

Hitters to hit tonight at Target Field as the Cardinals and Twins play Over.

                2* ST. LOUIS-MINNESOTA OVER

Wednesday free play? How about the Padres to keep their groove groovin' as they take another over the Giants and they do so by at least 2 runs.

San Diego is a young and emerging team. This 60 game season looks perfectly suited for their strong young arms and deep bullpen.

Chris Paddock worked 6 scoreless innings in his Opening Day win over Arizona and he enters this start having gone 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA against the Giants in 3 starts against them last season.

Johnny Cueto will counter and while he only allowed one run in his Opening Day start against the Dodgers, he only worked 4 innings.

Hitters like Will Myers, Fernando Tatis Jr. and of course Manny Machado give the Friars some potent sticks pitchers need to be careful with when working through a lineup.

It's on in Diego, play the Padre on the Run Line for Wednesday.

                  4* SAN DIEGO -1 1/2 RUNS

                    Chris Jordan

My free play for Wednesday is on the San Diego Padres against the San Francisco Giants.

With several sports books following new rules in not listing pitchers, I'm not sure if this will be an issue, but usually all Run Line/Total plays automatically list pitchers with the starters who are scheduled to go at the time of the wager.

And with this game I am not concerned with who goes for the Giants in this one, yet I do want you to be sure your ticket includes San Diego starter Chris Paddack. That being said, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be sure you have action even if San Franciscos starter is scratched, by re-wagering the game if that takes place. If Paddack doesn't go - this is a no-play.

I've been high on this kid ever since he made his debut on March 31, 2019, and think he is set to lead the Padres' rotation as the ace of the staff. The right-hander looked good in making the most of his first Opening Day start, twirling six scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.

He was brilliant in silencing the Snakes with a fastball that travels around 95 miles per hour, and a baffling change-up that appears to depart his hand the same as his fastball but arrives about 10 miles slower. His breaking ball has improved enough to where he can use it as an out pitch when necessary, while his control and command has become impeccable.

And what I like about him, something we saw Friday, is once he gets rolling with momentum backing him, he's become accustomed to stringing together outs and feeding his teammates with motivation.

The offense should do its part against a Giants staff that has a 4.60 ERA, which ranks 17th in the league, and that has allowed a league sixth-highest 27 runs through five games.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both Paddack and the Padres. Lay the run line.

                    3* PADRES (With Paddack ONLY)

                            Mountaineer Park - Race #6 - Post: 8:50pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $6,700 Class Rating: 57

                            Rating:

                            #1 FRIENDLY WAGER (ML=5/1)
                            #6 NONNA'S GLORY (ML=9/2)
                            #4 TANTALIZING (ML=8/1)

FRIENDLY WAGER - I just may give this one a fair chance. Should rebound off last race where he did run out of the money, but was within five lengths at the wire. Sub-par try in the last race at Mountaineer Park was due to the off-going (he finished fourth). I'd expect a better race in this field without the slop. You have to be keen on that latest race speed rating, 51, which is the best last race speed rating of this field. Horse has improved at least two speed figure points in last two races. I look for that trend to continue right here. NONNA'S GLORY - Many positive 'sensations' attached to this horse and his stable. TANTALIZING - The morning line odds on this gelding are higher than those of the other entrant from the shedrow of conditioner Godsey. Often the longer-priced part of a 'split' entry wins. Look for this gelding to run better in today's race. Last clash at Mountaineer Park finishing fifth on a track listed as good is no sign of his true ability.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #5 U S S COSTLY (ML=8/5), #3 KING SHAWN (ML=5/2),

U S S COSTLY - This thoroughbred hasn't shown too much in the last couple of races. KING SHAWN - Hasn't been doing anything at all lately.

                              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                              # 3 SON OF ELEANOR 5/2
                              # 7 COUNT N GOLD 7/2
                              # 5 FIVE STAR KIP 9/2
SON OF ELEANOR has a very strong shot to take this race. Is hard not to examine based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been very good - 91 avg - of late. Looks competitive to be close to the front end at the first call. Garnered a strong Equibase speed fig in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this affair. COUNT N GOLD - Looks very good to be close to the front end at the first call. Has to be carefully examined - I like the figs from the last race. FIVE STAR KIP - Evans has a solid 29 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. Could beat this group given the 92 speed fig garnered in his last outing.

                                Louisiana Downs - Race #1 - Post: 3:05pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 79

                                Rating:

                                #1 OUR DIAMOND (ML=5/2)

OUR DIAMOND - I sense a pace scenario where the speed will fade, setting up a perfect situation for her late kick. I like to play horses that faced open company in their last race and drop into state bred races. This mare fits the bill. The fact that this mare is entered right back into a race so quickly means she's fit and ready. This thoroughbred coming off a strong contest in the last month is a strong challenger in my humble opinion. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run her best in the 3rd or 4th start back.

                                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 EMMA'S GIFT (ML=3/1), #5 TIZ THE TIME (ML=7/2), #2 CHERRY TWIST (ML=4/1),

EMMA'S GIFT - This mare notched a speed rating in her last contest which probably isn't good enough today. TIZ THE TIME - Equibase speed figures tell a tale of declining physical condition. CHERRY TWIST - Last raced on July 8th at Louisiana Downs, finishing fourth. Unlikely to perk up off of that effort in today's race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #1 OUR DIAMOND on top if we're getting at least 1/1 odds
