Sunday saw Milwaukee lose their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to injury early in the second quarter of play, but some how the Bucks were able to force a 5th game tonight against Miami as they took a 118-115 overtime affair that landed Over the total.
I am going to play the Under tonight as I think both teams will be bringing the defensive intensity in this possible elimination game for the Bucks.
The Bucks have held Under in 3 of their last 5 postseason affairs, while the Heat have been playing them Low as a general rule of thumb since coming into bubble play. Coach Spo's team is 5-3 Under the total for their 8 playoff games so far and have held Low in 7 of their past 11 games played in Orlando.
The last 11 times these teams have jumped ball, they have ended up holding under 7 times.
Miami has been staunch on defense since these playoffs have gotten under way, as the Heat have held their opponents to 104 points or less in 5 of their 8 games so far, Sunday obviously getting a little bit away from them.
Not only is Giannis compromised, but Miami has Jae Crowder, Kelly Olynyk and Tyler Herro dealing with injuries of their own. That is a lot of potential offense that won't be dealing at 100% tonight, so with the defenses dominating in this series let's go with this game to hold Under the total on Tuesday night.
After coming out flat in Game One of their Western Conference Semifinal series against the Houston Rockets, the Lakers rebounded on Sunday with a 117-109 win and cover.
Los Angeles had also lost their opening series playoff game versus Portland before reeling off 4 straight wins to advance to the semis. I like the Lakers to go out tonight and take care of business once again against the Rockets.
Houston's one-two punch of James Harden and Russell Westbrook have been more "off" then "on" this postseason as the pair combined for just 37 points in the Game Two loss. Westbrook especially has looked loss since his return from that quad injury that sidelined him for the first 4 games of the postseason. On Sunday, # 0 turned the ball over 7 times for the second time since his return.
Meanwhile, the Lakers rebounded nicely after losing Game One by some 15-points, as they not only out-rebounded the Rockets by 6, they also won the battle in the paint - by a whopping 54-26 points - and also out-scored Houston 20-6 in transition points.
I am of the opinion, this is the Lakers series to lose. They could have pressed the panic button after their sluggish series start, but them reestablishing their identity on Sunday is a definite step in the right direction. With Westbrook not back to his pre-injury form and with Harden still not having turned in a true "highlight reel" performance this postseason, I will put my trust in Frank Vogel pulling the right strings against his inferior counterpart Mike D'Antoni any day of the week.
Go ahead and lay it with the Lakers in Game Three.
The New York Yankees have been incredibly horrendous lately. To the tune of five straight losses and a 5-15 mark since Aug. 18. Ace Gerrit Cole has lost three straight for the first time since 2018, the bullpen imploded last night when the Toronto Blue Jays scored 10 runs in the sixth inning, and the offense is averaging just 3.5 runs per game during the 20-game drought.
It's bad.
So bad that in last night's post-game press conference someone asked manager Aaron Boone if the Yankees went from looking like an automatic playoff team when it was 16-5 one-third of the way through the season, to a team in jeopardy of missing the postseason party.
He didn't think so, but I certainly do.
New York doesn't have it right now, and Toronto does.
The Blue Jays are two games in front of the pinstripes in the American League East, they've won two straight and six of 10, they have a +24 run differential and they're just playing better baseball.
One month ago, even with the game being played in Buffalo, the line wouldn't be sitting at a pick. The Yankees would easily have been -130 or -140.
But Toronto is legit. And tonight it's my free pick.
