John Klingberg and the Stars can finish off Reilly Smith and the Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals Monday. However, The SuperBook has Vegas a -170 favorite.

NHL betting odds are posted and getting attention for Monday’s lone playoff contest, Game 5 of the Western Conference finals. The surprising Dallas Stars can punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final with a victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

The SuperBook at Westgate provided insights on NHL opening odds and early odds movement, sharp money and public betting for Monday’s contest.

The Stars nabbed a 2-1 victory Saturday in Game 4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Golden Knights in the best-of-7 series. Dallas can advance with a win in Monday’s 8 p.m. ET clash, but as has been the case throughout, Vegas is the favorite, opening -165 at The SuperBook and moving to -170. Dallas is a +155 underdog.

The total was stable through Sunday night at The Superbook, sticking at 5 (Over -120).

NHL public betting

Despite Dallas being in control of this series, Vegas is still the popular play in the Consensus. Through Sunday night, the Golden Knights were attracting 66 percent of picks, and the Over was just a shade behind at 65 percent of picks.

Take the New York Giants plus the points versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. No one wants to play the Giants tonight with a rookie head coach in Joe Judge along with new offensive and defensive systems without the benefit if preseason games during a pandemic. But when most of the betting market embraces this logic, conventional wisdom gets built-in to the market price. The question is whether or not New York can keep this game within the point spread after those intangibles. Judge inherits a franchise and roster that has covered the point spread in 9 of their last 14 games when getting the points. Pittsburgh (0-0) is just 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games when favored — and they are only 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight road games when favored. The UNDER (10) is worth a look in Monday's MLB action between the Braves and Orioles. Baltimore is in an absolute funk offensively right now. They have scored a whopping 3 runs over their last 4 games combined. I don't see the Orioles getting that offense going in this one. Key here is Baltimore starter should be able to keep Atlanta in check. Orioles will send out Jorge Lopez. He's got a bad 5.02 ERA, but owns a very strong 1.185 WHIP and in his only home start of 2020 he didn't allow an earned run in 5 innings against the Yankees. Play the UNDER 10!

We should see some quality pitching in this one. Cease keeps the Sox in the game every time out. In fact, since allowing four runs in his first start back in July, he's allowed three or fewer earned runs in all eight starts, two or less in seven of those. In three home starts, Cease has a stellar 1.72 ERA. Berrios is better than his numbers indicate and his stats have been improving. He allowed four or more earned runs in three of his first five starts. However, he's allowed three or less in each of his last four. He held the Sox to three hits and one run, through six innings, earlier this month. Consider the Under.

Monday NHL Free play. My selection is on Vegas over Dallas at 8:10 pm et on Monday.
It truly is desperation time for the Golden Knights as they try to stave off elimination at the hands of the red hot Stars. I believe it's only a matter of time before Vegas breaks through offensively against Anton Khudobin and the Stars and with this being its possible last stand, why not here? We saw Vegas pour it on late in Game 4 on Saturday night but simply wasn't able to find the back of the net. I do look for its puck dominance to carry over into Monday's contest, but this time they are able to find some success. Keep in mind, the Stars gave up back-to-back games after building a 3-1 series lead against the Avs last round. They know how difficult it is to close out a team as good as the Knights. Take Vegas (8*).
