5 Unit Play. Take #403 Coastal Carolina +6.5 over Kansas (10:00 PM, Saturday, September 12, FS1)
Normally we'd be looking to play Kansas in this revenge spot after Coastal Carolina got them last year but the Jayhawks are so bad that we can't come anywhere close to laying points with them. Coastal returns fourteen starters and they should be ahead of Kansas in all areas of the game due to the fact that they were the only team that got in a full fifteen spring practices, compared to the zero that Kansas was able to have. Throw in the fact that Coastal Carolina is 6-1 ATS in their last seven non-conference games while Kansas is an awful 5-17 in their last 22 where they were listed as the favorite and we're taking the points here with the Chanticleers in a game that we think they have a decent chance to win outright on Saturday night.
6 Unit Play. Take #412 Notre Dame -20 over Duke (2:30 PM, Saturday, September 12, NBC)
Notre Dame has posted a perfect 5-0 ATS record in their last five games where they were listed as the favorite and they are an impressive 7-2 ATS in their last nine home games. As for the Blue Devils, they have failed to cover the number in four of their last five road games where they were listed as an underdog and they are an awful 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. Throw in the fact that the Fighting Irish outgained the Blue Devils 469-197 in a 38-7 romp last season and we're laying the big number here with ND in a game where we expect the same type of final score that we saw when these two teams got together
3 Unit Play. Take #414 Army -21 over Louisiana-Monroe (1:30 PM, Saturday, September 12, CBS Sports Network)
We cashed easily with the Black Knights last week so we're going back to the well with them here when they take on Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday afternoon. This number is a bit inflated due to what Army was able to do last week but we don't see ULM fairing any better here than Middle Tennessee did last week. They haven't been able to practice much this spring due to a COVID outbreak, two key starters decided to opt out of the season and their defensive coordinator resigned last week. On top of that, they are trying to replace one of the better QB's in program history while doing everything else on the fly. It's a big number to lay here with Army but if they show up 75% of how they did last week in their blowout of MTSU and they shouldn't have any issues winning this one by 30+ on Saturday afternoon.
4 Unit Play. Take #415 UL-Lafayette +11.5 over Iowa St (12:00 PM, Saturday, September 12, ESPN)
This one here has the chance to be one of the better games on a pretty week slate. Ragin' Cajuns come into their 2020 season off a year where they set all kinds of school records, including wins, scoring offense, total offense and yards per play. They bring back thirteen starters from that squad, including their QB and a pair of RB's that have over 5,000 combined rushing yards. Iowa St is no slouch and they're going to give teams in the Big 12 trouble but we don't think they're ready to be laying double digits to a vet laden team like ULL. Throw in the fact that Lafayette is an impressive 18-10 ATS under HC Billy Napier and we're taking the points with them here in a game that our numbers have coming down to the wire in Ames on Saturday afternoon.
3 Unit Play. Take #430 South Alabama +9.5 over Tulane (7:30 PM, Saturday, September 12, ESPN 2)
South Alabama has posted a perfect 4-0 ATS record in their last four home games and they have that same perfect 4-0 ATS record in their last four at home where they were listed as an underdog. Tulane, on the other hand, has struggled a bit in the spot they are in here on Saturday as they have failed to cover the number in eleven of their last sixteen on the road versus a team who was .500 or better at home in their previous season. Throw in the fact that South Alabama should have a little momentum after their upset win over Southern Miss last week and we're taking the points here with the Jaguars in a game that we expect them to cover in New Orleans on Saturday night.
4 Unit Play. Take #441/442 Houston Baptist vs Texas Tech Over 74.5 (8:00 PM, Saturday, September 12, ESPN +)
This isn't a very in-depth handicap on this one as the Red Raiders could come pretty close to going over this number themselves if they wanted to. Just like every year in Lubbock, Texas Tech will be able to score with anyone in the country with their problem being that they just aren't ever able to get enough stops to win a big game. Their poor defense plays right into our hands here as Houston Baptist was able to throw the ball for 480 yards while adding another 90 or so on the ground in a loss to North Texas. Throw in the fact that Houston Baptist gave up nearly 725 on defense to the Mean Green offense last week, one that isn't nearly as talented as Texas Tech and we're playing the over as there's a chance this one hits into the 90's on Saturday night.

New coach Mike Norvell takes over a Seminoles squad that many believe underachieved under Willie Taggart. QB James Blackman isn't one of those underachievers, as he has gotten better every season as the starter. His return, along with talented WR Tamorrion Terry, should give Florida State enough firepower on offense. The biggest challenge for the Yellow Jackets will be whether or not they are able to win along the line of scrimmage. Big Seminoles DT Marvin Wilson figures to make a few plays on Saturday.

This would normally be a spot that compels an argument for the underdog, but this might be the biggest mismatch we see between FBS programs this year. UTEP had to overcome a double-figure deficit last week to beat FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin, which had three wins last year. The Longhorns have a chance to put up gaudy numbers to start the Heisman campaign of QB Sam Ehlinger and they should be solid on the defensive side. Barring a major letdown or a prolonged show of mercy, the Longhorns should cover this and possibly get a shutout in the process.

The Cardinals are one of the sneaky good teams in the ACC … and nobody seems to recognize it. They have a stud quarterback in Micale Cunningham, a running back in Javian Hawkins who rushed for 1,525 yards last season and a stud receiver in Tutu Atwell who racked up 1,276 yards a year ago. The Over-Under went from 55.5 to 58 over the last three days. I’m not touching that … but there will be points. The vast majority of them will be scored by Louisville.

Are you serious? The Seminoles are less than two-touchdown favorites against a Yellow Jackets team that is only in Year 2 of a rebuild from the triple option to a modern offense? No way. I love what Geoff Collins is building in Atlanta, but the operative word is “building.” Meanwhile, Florida State has a new offense, an established quarterback in James Blackman and one of the best defenses in the country. Lay all of those points.

Believe it or not, this is going to be an offensive shootout. Sure, Notre Dame has a solid defense. But it’ll have a hard time shutting down a Blue Devils’ transfer Chase Brice. Believe in Brice. This kid can ball. Meanwhile, Notre Dame’s star quarterback Ian Book and one of the best offensive lines in the game will have no problem finding the end zone.

Texas St was a slow paced team last season avg only 64 plays/gm in head coach Jake Spavital’s first season. Now in his second season he wants the ramp the speed up significantly as the offense understands his scheme. Very impressed with QB Brady McBride’s (Memphis trans) first ever start gaining 416 yards and 22 FD’s vs SMU. Not concerned that that game did not go over, and it gives us more line value here. The Bobcats were a 3-TD underdog yet were within one score the entire game, sans 1 min 35 sec when they trailed by 10 points and they played accordingly. Now Texas St is the better team. UTSA was 5-0-1 O/U as a dog last season and despite a new HC here are his quote. "We've instructed all our coaches, we want our guys to play free on Saturday. If we go down, it'll be because we had too little. ... I don't want paralysis by analysis. I want my kids turned loose."
