Long-time readers of my picks know I usually shy away from double-digit spreads ... unless it involves the Chiefs. Not only do I believe Kansas City's defense is underrated, but this Las Vegas defense has been a sieve so far this season, allowing 30 points per game. KC has not allowed more than 20, it's playing at home, and it needs to shake off the cobwebs from a mostly ugly game against New England last week. The Chiefs have been dominant over the Raiders in recent meetings, and Andy Reid owns Jon Gruden. I thought this might get to -10, but close to kickoff, we'll take it here. Kansas City should win by two touchdowns.

With extra rest and one of the league's best defenses, the Steelers should roll over the Eagles by the time this game gets late in the second half. Carson Wentz has been a turnover machine this season, and that will not change against this Pittsburgh team. Ben Roethlisberger has been efficient and effective, throwing seven touchdowns to one interception, and James Conner is looking for this third-straight 100-yard game as the Steelers' running game has been operating on all cylinders. I don't love this game at more than a touchdown, and I do expect the line to go up. So be sure to get it here as I have Pittsburgh as eight-point favorites.

I don't think Kyle Allen is going to make a huge difference to the Washington offense, especially with Dwayne Haskins coming off his best game and still losing by double digits. While the Washington defense feels like it's been solid, this team has given up 30-plus points in three straight. The Rams played the ugliest game possible last week and still beat a similarly awful team by eight points, so a cover is still on the table if the Rams should struggle. This is already the Rams' third 1 p.m. ET East Cost game of the year, and they should be 2-0 in them if not for a highly questionable pass interference call in the Bills loss. I think the Rams roll here.

Seems odd to back a relatively big favorite that's 0-4 and just fired its coach, but here we are. I believe Bill O'Brien's dismissal will give this team a lift after he clashed with players prior to last week. I expect Deshaun Watson to absolutely destroy this ugly Jaguars defense that will be without top edge rusher Josh Allen, which will ease the burden of the Texans O-line. While the Texans defense has been bad in its own right, giving Gardner Minshew the opportunity at a backdoor cover here, I'm still going to play the angle that the Texans were rated far more highly than the Jaguars when the season started and had to endure a brutal schedule in the opening weeks.

The 49ers still have several names on the injury report but are getting much healthier in Week 5. Jimmy Garoppolo is back under center, which is no small thing after Nick Mullens stunk up the field last week. This is a long road trip for the Dolphins, and with Austin Jackson out at tackle, I think the 49ers D-line could have a big day chasing down Ryan Fitzpatrick. Meanwhile, Garoppolo will be able to lean on George Kittle while potentially having Deebo Samuel and Raheem Mostert back on the field. At first glance, the line seems too high, so I can understand a large portion of the public being on the other side, but I think the 49ers are a sneaky good play this week.

This is a massive total, and hitting it will require the Giants keeping up their end of the bargain in a shootout. Why? Because if the Cowboys are up big in the second half, they're just going to feed Ezekiel Elliott and not expose Dak Prescott to more hits as a result of a decimated offensive line. Those O-line questions could also limit the Cowboys' scoring output, and even taking one TD off the board matters with a total this high. To me, there are more scenarios where this game falls Under rather than enough fireworks taking it Over.

The Panthers defense is really coming together, and it did a great job against two offenses (Chargers, Cardinals) that have otherwise been solid in recent weeks. The Panthers offense is also outgaining the Falcons in yards per play, and with the Falcons giving up 30-plus in every game so far, I think we can reasonably say the Panthers are the better team here. Then you come to Dan Quinn, who is 20-35 ATS as a favorite in his career and appears to be playing out the string at 0-4 until a coaching change is made. Carolina, on the other hand, is a team on the rise that has a chance to be tied for first place after this game.

Will the Texans be extra motivated after Bill O'Brien was fired? It's unclear, but there were already reasons to believe they could handle a Jaguars team whose Week 1 win over the Colts is looking like an aberration. The Jags lost to the mighty Dolphins and Bengals the last two weeks by a combined 26 points, and now they'll be without Josh Allen and possibly a few other starters. A coach's firing hasn't historically helped teams in their next game, but the Texans are healthier and more talented, and they may even have a little extra fire. Lay the points.

The Chiefs have a defense. They haven't allowed more than 20 points in a game this season. When the Chiefs haven't looked like their dominant selves (Chargers, Pats) it occurred because the offense was slowed a bit, but that isn't likely to happen against the Raiders, who have the NFL's third worst defense by Football Outsiders' DVOA. The Chiefs won their last three games against the Raiders by a combined 103-22, and I don't think Vegas' D will be able to keep this one close either. Lay the points.

I don't agree with the line movement towards the Raiders in this game. I make Kansas City -11.8 better at a neutral site, and -13.2 better in this environment this afternoon. My model is very high on Clyde Edwards-Helaire today. Lay it.

Justin Herbert could have a big game against this Saints defense, which just gave up 29 points to the Lions. Losing Austin Ekeler hurts, but I think the Chargers score enough here to cover.

Framber Valdez was 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA this season and he has allowed just two earned runs in 12 IP this postseason. He has never faced the Rays in his career. Blake Snell was 4-2 with a 3.24 ERA this season but he was touched up for four earned runs in five innings against the Yankees. However, he did pitch 5.2 innings scoreless in his start against the Blue Jays. He has a career 2.81 ERA in the postseason but he has never gone deeper than 5.2 innings. During the regular season, the Astros were ranked 22nd in the league in OPS against lefties at .702, but they have an .846 OPS in the postseason against lefties. If the Astros are up, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put one of their bulk starters to close the game. This should be a 50-50 game.
