San Jose State is off to a 3-0 start mainly due to grad transfer QB Nick Starkel. The former SEC QB at Texas A&M and Arkansas looked great in his first 2 games before being knocked out last week against San Diego State with an undisclosed injury. He didn't practice all week and the Spartans won't disclose if he will play. I would still be on UNLV even if Starkel does play which I think he won't.
San Jose State has played some very weak competition in Air Force and New Mexico and neither win was very impressive. While UNLV may be 0-3, they have lost to teams who are a combined 7-2 and they have looked better in each game led by senior quarterback Max Gilliam and senior RB Charles Williams who are both playing well. The Problem has been their inexperienced offensive line and wide receiver core who are gaining confidence each game.
San Jose State is the better team in this one but with or without Starkel they are not 17 points better. The Pick: I'm Taking The Points and Betting UNLV.

They hit the road now for real tests at Michigan State today and then at Ohio State next. You have to go back to 1969 for the last time a Hoosiers football team has been ranked in the top 25.
