EPL - Southampton at Manchester United

Quick Synopsis: Round 22 of the PL season and a play on Manchester United Tuesday. After a run of 13 games unbeaten in league play (10 wins 3 draws) United suffered defeat against Sheffield United and a draw against Arsenal this past week. The loss to Sheffield was unfortunate it that the leagues match delegates have admitted to a couple errors in awarding Sheffield their goal while also wrongly disallowing a Man U goal. Their scoreless draw against Arsenal was a solid performance against a side that has also turned the corner the past 6 weeks (5 wins 1 draw in 6) so I don't expect any regression from this Manchester side on Tuesday. They'll face a Southampton side who after a strong start to the season have had problems and with added injuries have regressed. They've dropped 3 straight since a win against Liverpool and might be in a better spot to get all 3 points in their weekend fixture at Newcastle. When these two met in Round 10 of this season in November United rallied from 2 down to win 3-2. They'll likely be on the front foot from the start this time around as they look to get back on track here.

The play is Manchester United -1.0 (Good to -1.25) (This line should likely steam up to -1.25 by game day as some Southampton injuries and possible line up omissions make the news. The earlier you lock in the better)

ANALYSIS: My model says the Blues win in almost 70 percent of the simulations, so you're getting great value at this number. St. Louis returns home from a perfect three-game road trip on which it outscored its opponents 14-6. The Blues posted a pair of victories at Anaheim over the weekend, scoring a total of 10 goals while allowing only one in each contest. The Coyotes have played only two games on the road this season, losing both in Vegas by a combined 9-4 score.

Morgan State is riding a three-game winning streak during which it has defeated its opponents by an average of 25.7 points. The Bears have won two of their previous three meetings with the Eagles this season and are 5-1 overall on the road in 2020-21. Take Morgan State.

ANALYSIS: Clearly this price is silly and the Senators probably aren't going 0-28 on the road this season, but I'm going to keep betting against them because they are atrocious. Their two goaltenders have the two worst goals-against averages in the NHL and the Sens have been outscored 44-22 overall. Both the Oilers' Leon Draisaitl (six) and Connor McDavid (five) had more points in Sunday's 8-5 Edmonton win than the Senators have all season (three). I'm still not ready to take -1.5 for the Oilers on the puckline, though, even at a solid price of +110. The Sens might (might!) be capable of losing by just the one goal and if you bet the Edmonton puckline, you automatically lose if it goes to OT.

I'm playing on Vancouver/Montreal UNDER the total. The Canadiens jumped all over the Canucks and goaltender Holtby last night. To be fair to Holtby, the Canucks were turning the puck over an awful lot and hanging him out to dry. The Canucks should have Demko in there tonight I expect a much better defensive effort in front him. That's four games in a row, a span of two weeks, that the Habs have lit up the Canucks. To say that Vancouver is unhappy about it would be a massive understatement.

Coach Green had this to say of last night's effort: "Games like tonight probably frustrate me more than others because ... as good a team as they are, we kind of shot ourselves in the foot again. And that can drive you crazy as a coach. The saying, the definition of insanity is repeating the same things over and over and expecting different results, that was kind of the story tonight.You turn over the puck against this team, you're going to lose. You’re soft in puck battles, you’re going to lose. They're a quick team, they work hard, they're structured, they're deep. But we'd already played them three times." I fully expect Green's Canucks to be better at protecting the puck and not giving up easy goals tonight.

Keep in mind that in the four games that they played since they previously faced Montreal, Vancouver allowed just four combined goals, one in each game. Likewise, Montreal allowed just four combined goals (in two games) since previously facing Vancouver. Look for a much lower-scoring game tonight, the final combined score staying beneath the generously high total.
