Al Cimaglia: Pompano Park Pick 4 Analysis-$20,000 Guaranteed Pool

Tonight, Pompano Park has a 10-race card scheduled with the 0.50 Pick 4 starting in Race 6. The sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool with a 12% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

2-Rockin Machine (4-1)-Fits well with this group. Has the gate speed to be put in play early and should benefit from an up-close seat. Has hit the board in 18 of 28 starts at the Pomp with 5 wins.
3-Real Peace (3-1)-Gets some post relief and Miller should end up in the pocket or on the engine. Either trip could work for a picture.
5-Maxdaddy Bluechip (9/2)-Makes 2nd start after a claim for the Wrenn barn and gets a some class relief. Raced from the back in last and started from post 8. Needs to find some live cover but did roll the 2nd half in 54.4 last week and there should be a lively pace.

Race 7

2-LA Rockin Sampson (9/2)-There isn't any mystery concerning this 5-year-old. Holiday will have the pedal down from the word go and will look to wire the field. Taking a swing for a fair price with this post draw and the likelihood of getting an unchallenged lead.
6-Seeing Eye Single (5/2)-Should like the company and Miller can be aggressive here. Has been racing from the back versus better. But in this spot could land in the 2-hole and trip out for a picture.

Race 8

1-Cloudbreak (3-1)-Changes barns but the reason to use is the starting slot and class relief. My guess is Miller will be able to protect the rail and if so chances for success go up if stays on the engine.
4-Record Machine (7/5)-Barn is cold and this gelding is 0-5 at the Pomp. That said, drops into a soft spot and Hennessey can land on top or in the 2-hole. Veteran pilot could end up taking a picture either way.

Race 9

1-Shamma Lamma (4-1)-McArdle five-year-old will need its best and that can happen by racing near the top of the stack. Has been stuck with post 7 or 8 in every start in the past 5 weeks and should be forwardly placed here. Needed last and now comes right back after racing on 3-11.
2-Ben Rockin (7/2)-Took a couple of pictures, then stepped-up and was in too tough. This is a better spot and is another who can be forwardly placed. Has hit the board 3 times in 5 starts with 2 trips to the winner's circle at PPk.
3-Harry Terror (5/2)-Will include the program chalk and Hennessey should find a good seat but not sure that will be on the point. Probably will offer no value but this 7-year-old has done good work at the Pomp hitting the board 25 times in 52 starts with 12 wins.

Delta Downs - Race #1
Picks Notes
#4 Slow He was a decent fit with this kind in the December debut, and he has some room to bounce back as a first-time gelding after the no-show effort with special weight company.
#5 Toe Bandit He was in the frame for twice this price in his career debut, and he was never able to get involved with better last time out. Two turns is a real question at what might be an underlaid price.
#3 Oscar Choice Drops hard off the June layoff, but that class relief coupled with his being a first-time gelding offers some hope for a better effort here.
Race Summary Slow tried better in his last one, but he's back to the level at which he was a decent fourth in his debut last last year. Can't imagine he's offering the 8/1 ML price, but he's an overlay if he does.

Delta Downs - Race #6
Picks Notes
#7 Sister Secret Lee She was no threat as the 2/1 chalk when adding blinkers last out, but she is capable of something better than that and should offer a fair price.
#4 Further Lane She obviously has her share of problems with the long layoff line and class plunges, but this is a bad field and she may be able to handle these by default. Try to beat her or pass.
#1 Limitless Mazie She has been in with better in both tries, but she has also given away ground in a significant way in both starts, so I wouldn't be too confident landing here at something like the 7/2 ML price.
Race Summary There isn't much pace signed on here, and Sister Secret Lee can be more of a forward player than she was last time out. She seems like a logical, mid-range price that can be an alternative to the chalk.

Delta Downs - Race #8
Picks Notes
#4 Alluring Actor He was DQ'ed from a score at this level before trying stakes company last out, and he looks like a really good fit in a spot where most of the threats are rising in class.
#1 Toni's Star He rises in good form but he's going to have to work out a trip from the fence with some pace signed on further outside of him.
#5 Outamine He has put together a couple of Fair Grounds wins in a row while facing soft groups, but he steps up for a barn that does good work when making class asks like this.
Race Summary Alluring Actor would be appealing at something like the 7/2 ML price. His tries at this level have been pretty consistent, and he should appreciate getting back into this easier spot today.

#1 War Act Ran his best race last time when Berrios took over in the irons, and he's back and faces a group that's not overwhelming on paper. Can time it right for a big finish.

#7 Strugar Was strong on the front end in his last two and goes for his third straight win; fits with these.
Race Summary War Act moved up strongly when hung last time out; Berrios is back for a second engagement and can make his move when ready.

Picks Notes
#5 Sammy's Mineshaft Comes out of sprint races and can dictate how this one develops; could get loose on the engine here.
#1 Onlyattheshoe Has been a big player on the front end of two-turn races lately and dug in when challenged last out; can run another good one here.
#9 Giles Can be closest to the lead here and can excel if the top one fades; tired in his last one but his three just prior to that were good enough to make him a factor here.
Race Summary Sammy's Mineshaft has the most speed and has won a couple of distance races in his career; big chance today.

#9 Cortege Has been in good races going long with this turn-back in distance and likely make a strong late move; one to hold off.
#4 Rogue Patriot Drops out of tougher races at Turfway and the last time he was at his level he delivered a good runner-up finish; likely to get back to good form here.
#3 Just Flashy Set the pace and was caught late last time; can make a run vs. these.
