My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for the Thursday afternoon games is with Under the Total in the match between Man United and Roma at 3 PM ET. Man United can park the bus and play keep away when they have possession after their 6-2 victory against Roma in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Semifinals last Thursday. The Red Devils have played ten of their last fourteen matches on the road Under 2.5 goals. Roma has played five of their last six matches at home at Stadio Olimpico Under 2.5 goals. Take the Under. While the Coliseum is more of a pitchers park, the ball should carry a little more during the day, plus the wind is blowing out at close to 10 mph to center. Play the OVER 8!

The first two games of this series both made their way over the number but we should see some strong pitching today. Bumgarner is 3-0 with a dominant 1.06 ERA and 0.471 WHIP his last three. Lopez, meanwhile, has a microscopic 0.47 ERA his past three starts. Those games had scores of 1-0, 5-2 and 2-1. These same two starters opposed each other in May of 2019. Both delivered quality starts and the final score was 4-2. Consider the Under.

The MLB Comp play for Thursday is on Miami at 6:40 eastern. Miami is off a blowout win over Arizona last night and that sets them up in a powerful 51-19 system dating to 2004 for home favorites off a 5+ run home favored win with 10+ hits vs an opponent that had 2 or less runs on 5+ hits in a 5+ run loss if both teams played error free ball. Miami is in last place in the N.L. East despite having the best run differential in the division at +18. They have won 4 of 5 here vs Arizona who has lost 14 of 18 in game 3 of a series and 20 of 27 when the total is 7 to 8.5. Bumgarner has pitched better of late but has a 5.38 season Era. Pablo Lopez(RHP0-2, 2.34 ERA, 34 SO) received an extra day of rest as part of the club's plan to monitor its young arms' workload. López has given up two or fewer runs in all but one of his six starts. Last time out, he pitched a career-high-tying seven scoreless innings on 79 pitches. Meanwhile,Madison Bumgarner(LHP3-2, 5.58 ERA, 33 SO) has been outstanding in his past three starts, going 3-0 with a 1.06 ERA over that stretch. That also included a seven-inning no-hitter against the Braves in Atlanta on April 25 and should once again be a formidable opponent for the Marlins inconsistent batting order. Look for both hurlers to go deep and the bullpens to do their job in what Im betting will be a low scoring affair. ARIZONA is 21-5 UNDER after scoring 2 runs or less over the last 2 seasons.

You'll excuse the Rangers if they take a pass on getting up for this game, their fourth in the last six days. This is what's happened to the Rangers during the past two days: team president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton were fired. The Rangers had a rematch on Wednesday night against the Capitals, who defeated them, 6-3, this past Monday. The Rangers lost 4-2 to the Capitals on Wednesday, but that wasn't the big story. Exacting a measure of revenge on the Capitals - mainly cheap shot artist Tom Wilson - was the major focus and motivation. Wilson caused a huge fight on Monday with a sucker punch and then injured Artemi Panarin, the Rangers' star player and points leader, knocking him out for the rest of the season. The Rangers are far from a brawny, physical team. That's not their style. They banded together, though, and went after the Capitals with fists flying right from the opening faceoff. The Rangers had to take matters into their own hands since the league failed to properly clamp down on Wilson's constant thuggery. There were six fights within the first five minutes. It was a gutty display by the Rangers. They lost the game to a superior foe, but earned a satisfying self-respect for avenging a wrong. All of this factors into this matchup. The Rangers aren't going to have anything left after last night. It's not like they have anything to play for either since they are eliminated from playoff competition. New York is severely short-handed, too. It's not just Panarin who is sidelined. Also injured are defensemen Jacob Trouba and Ryan Lindgren along with forwards Chris Kreider, Brett Howden and Julien Gauthier. The Bruins have defeated the Rangers in eight of the last 10 meetings. The Bruins won't lack motivation after blowing a lead in a 4-3 overtime loss to the lowly Devils two days ago. Boston has won each of its last six home games with the last five of those victories all coming by 3 or more goals.

Thursday's Free NBA Pick is on the Charlotte Hornets as a 4-point home dog against the Chicago Bulls. I know the Bulls are expected to get back Zach LaVine, but I just don't think his return is enough to warrant Chicago being a road favorite here. Bulls have a lot of flaws, which is why they are out of the playoff picture right now. I also think there's a good chance LaVine struggles a bit in his first game back. I really like the Hornets to win this game. Bet Charlotte +4!

This is a huge game for the Raptors and they are in the more favorable situation. They had yesterday off while the Wizards just played in a 134-135 shootout loss to the Bucks. They will probably have a hangover from that defeat and they won't have much left in the tank either. Westbrook played 40 minutes and Beal 38 for the Wizards last night. It will also be the 5th game in 7 days and the 8th game in 12 days for the Wizards. The Raptors are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. Take Toronto.

The Canucks have been dealt a tough hand this season, even more so than the rest of the league. While it's been tough for everyone playing through a pandemic, Vancouver had to shut down when the entire team came down with Covid, and now they are forced to make up those games by playing almost every day. They will play their sixth game in eight days tonight in Edmonton, and to add insult to injury their first line center will not play while under investigation for sexual assault. Vancouver has lost six straight, and five straight by at least two goals. Edmonton is just six point out of first place in the North Division, so this looks like it could be another blowout.

Thursday NHL Free play. My selection is on Vancouver +1.5 goals over Edmonton at 9:05 pm et on Thursday.
We missed with the Canucks on the puck-line two nights ago in Vancouver as they dropped a second straight game by multiple goals against the Oilers. Now with the scene shifting to Edmonton on Thursday night, I'll go back to the well with Vancouver at an even more favorable price. Note that Vancouver checks in 13-6 the last 19 times it has come off a home loss by three goals or more, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 1.4 goals in that situation. Meanwhile, the Oilers are just 2-9 the last 11 times they've come off consecutive victories by two or more goals, outscored by an average margin of 1.2 goals in that spot. It's also worth noting that the Oilers average just 2.5 goals per game when coming off a road win by two goals or more this season. They've been outscored by 0.1 goal on average when in that situation. Edmonton does have a three-game winning streak over the Canucks to its credit this season, but it didn't win all three of those games by more than a goal. Note that Vancouver has held its own in Edmonton in recent years, splitting the last six meetings. At this late stage of the season with the playoffs no longer in the cards, I do expect to see the Canucks show some pride during this two-game set in Edmonton. Take Vancouver +1.5 goals (8*).

They just got back Kawhi Leonard from injury and now they have Patrick Beverly back as well. The only player of significance they are missing is Serge Ibaka.
