Dave's Thursday Free Play:
1* on San Francisco Giants +163
The Key: I like the price we are getting on the San Francisco Giants tonight. They have been one of the most underrated teams in MLB at 38-23 this season. The Washington Nationals are just 25-33 including 4-9 in their last 13 games. The Nationals to have the edge on the rubber tonight with Max Scherzer, but it's not enough to warrant being this big of a favorite. Anthony Desclafini has been dominant this season outside of one start against the Dodgers. He has been at his best on the road at 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA and 1.12 WHIp in 7 starts away from home. Desclafini is 2-1 with a 3.99 ERA in 5 lifetime starts against the Nationals as well. Take San Francisco.Comment

MLB | COL vs MIA
Play on: OVER 7½ +104
Why Over? Here's the short answer: Chi Chi Gonzalez is starting and the total is less than 8.
Gonzalez is more of a reliever - and not a very good one at that. He has a 6.17 ERA in four relief appearances and a 4.42 ERA in seven starts this season. He draws the start here because Jon Gray has an injured elbow. Good-looking rookie lefty Trevor Rogers gets the call for Miami. I'm wondering if Rogers is beginning to slip? He posted a 1.29 ERA in April, a 2.34 ERA in May and a 3.00 ERA during his one June start. The Rockies lead the National League in batting average versus left-handed pitching at .276. Colorado ranks No. 2 in the National League against southpaws in various metric categories such as slugging percentage, on-base percentage and OPS. There also is a good chance the Rockies get slugging shortstop Trevor Story for this game. He's been out with an injured elbow. Both bullpens are bad, too. I rate them among the seven-worst.Comment

MLB | Astros vs Red Sox
Play on: Red Sox +101 at pinnacle
My free play is on the Bos Red Sox at 7:10 ET. The Houston Astros have won EIGHT of their last 10 games and currently are 35-26, just ONE game back of the 37-26 Oakland A's in the AL West. The last two wins have come 7-1 (Tuesday) and 8-3 (Wednesday) in Boston, as the Astros have won FIVE of six games against the Red Sox this season after taking three of four in Houston last week (May 31-June 3). Boston opened this series on a five-game winning streak but the back-to-back losses have the 37-25 Red Sox 1 1/2-games back of the 39-24 Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. Houston looks to complete a three-game sweep in Fenway on Thursday night, when Zach Greinke (6-2, 3.38 ERA) takes on Boston's struggling Eduardo Rodriguez (5-4, 5.59 ERA). Greinke is Houston's ace and comes off one of his best starts of the season last Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays in Buffalo. He threw a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in a 13-1 Astros rout. He has made 13 starts in 2021 with the Astros going 10-3. Rodriguez sat out last season because of coronavirus concerns but was 13-5 in 2018 and 19-6 in 2019. He returned to open 5-0 in his first six starts of 2021 (team was 6-0), which gave Boston a mind-blowing 51-14 record in games Rodriguez had started since 2018. However, E-Rod has IMPLODED over his last five starts, going 0-4 with a 7.92 ERA (Red Sox are 1-4). Rodriguez allowed four or more runs in all four of those losses, including giving up a season-high six runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings in an 11-2 loss at Houston on May 31. Both starters own poor career records against their respective opponents but clearly, Grienke is in MUCH better "current form." That said, I will back Boston to avoid the home sweep, noting that Greinke is 0-2 with a 9.64 ERA in three games (two starts) at Fenway Park. Rodriguez is in a funk but he did pitch better in his Saturday outing at Yankee Stadium. He allowed three ERs over 5.1 innings with seven Ks. The Red Sox won 7-3 (no-decision for Rodriguez) but let's NOT forget that Boston is 52-18 (.743) in his last 70 starts!! Good luck...LarryComment

FREE PICK - Houston Astros +103
RATING: 30*
ROT#: 963
I will roll the dice with the Astros as a small road dog against the Red Sox in Thursday's series finale. Houston has really dominated this series so far. The Astros won 7-1 on Tuesday and followed that up with a 8-3 win yesterday. Houston has won 3 straight overall and are 8-2 in their last 10 overall.
Astros will send out Zack Greinke, who is quietly throwing the ball extremely well. Greinke is 6-2 with a 3.37 ERA and 1.089 WHIP in 13 starts. He's got a sensational 1.50 ERA and 0.738 WHIP in 6 road starts (Houston is 5-1 in those games) and in his last 2 starts he's given up a mere 2 runs in 17 innings.
Boston will send out Eduardo Rodriguez, who has a 5.59 ERA and 1.414 WHIP in 11 starts this season, 8.36 ERA and 1.643 WHIP in his last 3 outings and a 7.84 ERA and 1.887 WHIP in 5 career starts against the Red Sox. That includes an outing back on 5/31, where he gave up 6 runs on 7 hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 2-11 loss. Give me the Astros +103!Comment

MLB | Rockies vs Marlins
Play on: Rockies +181 at pinnacle
1* Free Sharp Play on Rockies +181
The Rockies (+181) are worth a look as a big road dog against the Marlins in Thursday's MLB action. This is just too good a price to pass up with on Colorado. I know Miami's got a great starter going in Trevor Rogers, but with the way this team struggles to score, they should not be this big of a favorite. Rockies are 10-2 in their last 12 vs a bad team that's won between 38% to 45% of their games, while Marlins are 3-12 in their last 15 vs a team that is gettin goutscored by 0.5 or more runs/game. Play Colorado +181!Comment

MLB | Rockies vs Marlins
Play on: Marlins -200 at linepros
Thursday MLB Free play. My selection is on Miami over Colorado at 7:10 pm et on Thursday.
This is a fine spot for the Marlins to bounce back from a 4-3 loss suffered at the hands of the Rockies last night as they send their ace Trevor Rogers to the hill. Rogers has pitched exceptionally well, particularly here at home where he owns a 1.71 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in four starts this season, with the Marlins winning three of those games. Rogers does average just a shade over five innings per start here at home, which is a bit of a concern, but somewhat negated by the fact that the Miami bullpen entered last night's action sporting a 3.17 ERA and 1.07 WHIP here at home. Rockies starter Chi Chi Gonzalez sports an ugly 6.20 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in five road starts this season. Given their struggles away from Coors Field it should come as no surprise that the Rockies have won just once in those five games. With Gonzalez averaging less than five innings per start on the road we should see plenty of a Rockies bullpen that owns a 4.67 ERA and 1.51 WHIP (entering last night's action) on the road this season. Look for the Marlins to take the rubber match of this series on Thursday. Take Miami (8*).Comment
