The Key: I like the price we are getting on the Cincinnati Reds today as nearly 2-to-1 underdogs to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds have won 7 of their last 9 games. Vladamir Gutierrez has been solid this season especially on the road where he is 3-1 with a 4.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 5 road starts. He has faced the Brewers twice this year and gone 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while yielding only 4 earned runs and 15 base runners in 13 innings. Those numbers are good enough for us to take a shot on the Reds tonight. Take Cincinnati.

This is a great time to 'buy low' on Gerrit Cole, who is coming off two of his worst starts of the season. It's rare that you get the opportunity to back Cole at nearly even money and we'll take advantage today.
Cole is still 8-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 0.962 WHIP in 17 starts this season. He won't have to face two of Houston's best hitters tonight in Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa. The Astros were shut out 4-0 yesterday by the Yankees in what turned out to be a bullpen game for them.
Zack Greinke is getting too much respect from oddsmakers tonight. He has good numbers overall with a 3.64 ERA in 18 starts. But Greinke has been at his worst at home, going 3-2 with a 5.26 ERA and 1.441 WHIP in nine home starts.
The Yankees are 9-1 in road games vs. good power teams that average 1.25 HR's per game or more this season. New York is 60-28 in its last 88 games after allowing two runs or less in its previous game. Bet the Yankees Saturday.

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Saturday is on the Houston Astros with the money-line versus the New York Yankees listing both starting pitchers Zack Greinke and Gerrit Cole. Houston (54-35) looks to rebound from their 4-0 loss to the Yankees last night. The Astros have won 6 of their last 8 games after scoring two runs or less in their last contest. Houston has also won 5 of their last 7 home games as a money-line underdog. New York (45-42) has lost 5 of their last 7 road games as a favorite. The Angels come into Game 2 in Seattle as a favorite, despite the fact that Seattle has a better record, a far better home record, and won Game 1 by a score of 7-3.
Chris Flexen will toe the slab for Seattle, and he's won four of his last five starts. His numbers at home are impressive, going 5-2 with a 1.99 ERA in nine starts.
The Angels hand the ball to Patrick Sandoval, who allowed three runs on five hits over six innings in a loss to Seattle earlier this season.
The Angels are 3-7 in the last 10 head to head meetings.

I'm as much a fan of Fernando Tatis Jr. as the next guy. I also know the Rockies are dog crap on the road at 7-34. They've also dropped nine straight at Petco Park.
But there are some below-the-surface elements that make Colorado worthy of a small investment when taking 1 1/2 runs on the run line. Like the current form of the starting pitchers. German Marquez has been brilliant during his last four starts for the Rockies allowing only three earned runs in 29 innings. Marquez has given up just nine hits while striking out 25 during this span. Joe Musgrove, on the other hand, has gotten battered during his past two starts surrendering 10 earned runs in nine innings. Musgrove has permitted a combined 15 hits/walks and three homers during this time frame. He reached the 100-pitch count, too, for just the second time this season during his last start five days ago against the Nationals. If given 1 1/2 runs during their last 23 games, the Rockies would be 18-5.

Saturday MLB Free play. My selection is on Los Angeles -1.5 runs over Arizona at 10:10 pm et on Saturday.
This is a pretty obvious bounce-back spot for the Dodgers and I'm confident we'll see them come through with a convincing victory.
Caleb Smith will take the ball for Arizona. We actually cashed a first five innings 'under' play in his most recent start against San Francisco. With that being said, he's been a better pitcher at home than on the road, where he has posted a 4.15 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in three starts this season. The D'Backs lost all three of those games and Smith averaged just 4.3 innings per start. That's where the trouble lies as the Arizona bullpen behind Smith has posted a collective 5.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP on the road this season with just three saves converted and eight blown (entering last night's action).
Walker Buehler will look to rebound following a shaky start against the Marlins earlier this week. He's well-positioned to do so here at home where he has recorded a terrific 2.53 ERA and 0.97 WHIP this season. Better still, Buehler has posted a 1.70 ERA and 0.79 WHIP against division opponents. With him averaging 6.4 innings per start we shouldn't need much help from the Dodgers bullpen but it's worth noting that they have recorded a collective 2.71 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 16 saves converted and only six blown at home this season. Take Los Angeles -1.5 runs (8*).
