Event: (921) Tampa Bay Rays at (922) Boston Red Sox
      Sport/League: MLB

      Date/Time: September 8, 2021 7PM EDT
Play: Total Over 9.5 (-114) Action
The Tampa Bay Rays southpaw Shane McClanahan (9-5, 3.76 ERA) squares off against the Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (10-8, 3.73 ERA) in the third and final game of an AL East three-game set. The matchup opened as essentially a pick'em and the sharp money has been backing Tampa since the overnight numbers were posted. Also, the lean in terms of the total has been one trending north of the current bookmakers opening 9.5 runs.
John Libka ranks in the Top-10 of all active umps in terms of K-zones, those of the small-sized variety and tonight's venue conditions favor the hitters. Fenway Park is forecasting temps close to 80 degrees at first pitch with a wind blowing 10-15 mph out to left-centerfield.
The Rays have been a streaky lineup after a slow start to the season, in particular against left-handed pitching. Tonight they capture a starting pitcher that throws from the right side and they are playing a game after winning by 5-plus runs. In games following a Rays' victory of five or more runs, the following game has seen the over cash at a 7-1-1 (88%) rate. Play OVER the TOTAL of 9.5 runs tonight in Boston.

Event: (905) Washington Nationals at (906) Atlanta Braves
        Sport/League: MLB

        Date/Time: September 8, 2021 7PM EDT
Play: 1H Atlanta Braves -0.5 (-130) S Nolin (LHP), T Toussaint (RHP) Must Start
The Braves look to lengthen their lead on the Phillies by continuing to take care of business against the visiting Nationals after posting an 8-5 win behind Ozzie Albies on Tuesday. Touki Toussaint takes the mound in this one and should help get his team off to a good start in this one. With Washington sending an inexperienced lefty to the bump, look for Atlanta to continue a run of strong starts since it scored three in the first to take command in Game 1 of the series. Ride Atlanta laying the half-run in the first five innings.

Event: (909) Philadelphia Phillies at (910) Milwaukee Brewers
          Sport/League: MLB

          Date/Time: September 8, 2021 7PM EDT
Play: Total Over 8.0 (-115) K Gibson (RHP), F Peralta (RHP) Must Start
Back-to-back Overs in this current three-game series as each team went Over the total on their own the past two days. Philadelphia put up 12 runs on Monday afternoon, and then Milwaukee almost matched them with 10 runs last night. Look for both offenses to perform well this evening as the Phillies have scored 7+ runs or more in 8 of their past 12 games, while the Brewers have scored at least 5+ runs in five of their past ten games.

I Like the cheap road price I am seeing on the Mets tonight as they face the Marlins fresh off their 8th win over their last 10 games.

New York has kept themselves viable in the playoff chase by beating up on the Nationals and the Marlins recently, as last night's 9-4 series opening win pushed their mark against Miami to 3 straight and 4 of 5 since early August.

The Mets beat Sandy Alcantara in his last start, as they got to the righty for 8 hits and 4 runs in his 6-plus innings of work against them. For his career, Alcantara is just 2-4 against New York.

Rich Hill will make his third start - a pair of no-decisions - against the Marlins this year and his second as a member of the Mets. For his career he is 2-1 in 6 appearances.

The Mets are running short of time to reach the playoffs, but they do like playing the Marlins these days, so back the Mets.

My Wednesday night comp play winner is on the Nationals and the Braves to put up enough crooked digits to get their game into the Over column once again tonight.

As we head down the stretch of the regular season, Washington has been involved in a bunch of games that have tended to produce plenty of fireworks, as the Nationals are on a 14-6-2 Over spree for their last 22 games played this season.

Last night's series Over made it 3 in a row between the division-rivals having landed Over the total and put the Over at 5-2 for the last 7 series meetings between the clubs.

With Sean Nolin's season ERA over 5 and Touki Toussaint's season ERA over 4, strong chance we see the runs add up at Truist Park for Wednesday night.

              2* WASHINGTON-ATLANTA OVER

                  Jack's Free Pick Wednesday: Royals/Orioles OVER 9.5
The wind is expected to be blowing out to center at 12 MPH at game time inside hitter-friendly Camden Yards. This should help aid a slug fest between the Orioles and Royals with these two awful starting pitchers going tonight.
Matt Harvey is one of my favorite starters to fade in all of baseball. He is 6-14 with a 6.28 ERA and 1.516 WHIP in 27 starts this season, including 2-9 with a 6.40 ERA and 1.543 WHIP in 13 home starts.
He'll be opposed by Mike Minor, who is 8-12 with a 5.25 ERA in 27 starts this season, including 4-5 with a 5.32 ERA in 13 road starts. The Orioles and Royals have combined for 10 or more runs in six of their last eight meetings. Bet the OVER in this game Wednesday.

1* MLB - Blue Jays/Yankees FREE PICK on UNDER 10
Wednesday's Free MLB Pick is on the UNDER 10 between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. I know the wind is going to be blowing out to left, but I believe the total has been inflated quite a bit that there's value with the UNDER. This is a playoff like atmosphere in New York, as these two are fighting for a AL Wild Card spot. I also like the pitching matchup. Alek Manoah had a poor start last time out, but overall has been rock solid. He's also responded really well this season after a poor outing. Luis Gil of the Yankees has made 3 starts and has not allowed a run in 15 2/3 innings. Play the UNDER 10!

Play on: Karolina Pliskova -128 at pinnacle

Both women are playing well. Both realize that this is a great opportunity for them. I believe that Pliskova is playing a little bit better at the moment though. Importantly, I also believe that she'll be "fresher." Both last played on Monday. Pliskova, who formerly held the #1 ranking in the world, played earlier in the day and won in straight sets. On the other hand, Sakkari played a late match and she was pushed to the brink. Her 3-set match included two tiebreakers. Note that she had more double-faults (8) than aces (7) in that match. The Czech player should have more energy and I like her chances of advancing. Consider Pliskova.

                          RATING: 30*
                          ROT#: 922
I'm going to take a shot here with Boston at basically even money in Wednesday's series finale against the Rays. It's been a tough first two games for the Red Sox. They blew that big lead in Monday's 10-11 extra inning loss and it was no surprise they came out a bit flat after a loss like that, losing 7-12 on Tuesday.
They did show some fight in yesterday's loss, scoring 6 runs in the last 2 frames to make it respectable. I just think they are primed to bounce back and avoid getting swept at home.
A big reason for that is the guy they have on the mound. Nathan Eovaldi has had a great 2021 season. While he's just 10-8, he's posted a sharp 3.68 ERA and 1.168 WHIP. Even more important here, is that he's been much better at home, where he owns a 2.99 ERA and 1.057 WHIP in 16 starts.
We have seen how different he can be in his 3 starts vs the Rays this season. He gave up 6 runs in 5 1/3 in his only start at TB and has allowed a mere 2 ER in 14 innings in 2 home start vs the Rays (both wins). Give me the Red Sox -103!

The Tampa Bay Rays are 17-4 in their last 21 games overall. And with how they have owned the Red Sox it's hard to pass up on them as underdogs here Wednesday. The Rays are 11-3 in the last 14 meetings. Tampa Bay is 17-5 in its last 22 meetings in Boston. Shane McLanahan is 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 21 starts this season, including 3-3 with a 3.53 ERA in 10 road starts. Nathan Eovaldi is 4-6 with a 4.50 ERA in 11 previous starts against Tampa Bay. The Rays are 10-1 in their last 11 road games against a team with a winning record. Give me the Rays.

Rays vs Red Sox Free Pick September 8, 2021
The Rays are going for the sweep here at Fenway Park after claiming high-scoring victories both Monday and Tuesday. I like their bats to stay hot against Red Sox righty Nathan Eovaldi (10-8, 3.73 ERA) who is 4-6 with a 4.81 ERA in 13 career games (11 starts) against Tampa Bay. Rays are 10-1 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning record and 7-3 in their last 10 games as an underdog.
Rays' rookie left-hander Shane McClanahan (9-5, 3.76 ERA) is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in two starts against Boston. He was charged with all four runs in a 4-0 loss to Boston last time out, but he had won five straight starts prior to that outing. Red Sox are 5-11 in their last 16 games vs. a left-handed starter.
Rays are 17-5 in the last 22 meetings in Boston.
Free pick on Tampa Bay Rays.
