Utah State's 27-3 rout at the hands of Boise State last week was somewhat deceiving. The Aggies actually drove into Boise State territory on each of their first four drives in the game but were foiled by turnovers and penalties, coming up empty each and every time. Still, they went into halftime trailing just 10-0 which was a credit to their defensive play. Keep in mind, this is a team that entered that game sporting a flawless 3-0 record having scored a whopping 123 points through their first three games. BYU will certainly have the Aggies full attention in this Friday night rivalry game, noting that the Cougars somewhat surprisingly enter as a top-15 team in the nation. Some thought this would be a down year for BYU given all of the departures, including QB Zach Wilson. However, it has continued to thrive, entering this contest with a perfect 4-0 record. Keep in mind, this will be the Cougars first true road game of the season (their season-opener against Arizona was technically a 'road' game but it was played at a neutral site in Las Vegas). After watching backup QB Baylor Romney turn in a near-flawless performance against South Florida last week, I'm not sure it's a big positive getting Jaren Hall back for this game. I would anticipate both quarterbacks getting snaps in this one. There's really not a lot negative I can say regarding the Cougars as they've played phenomenal football out of the gate this season. I simply feel that Utah State is better than it showed in last week's blowout loss, noting that head coach Blake Anderson owns a perfect 4-0 ATS mark when his teams play at home off a home loss over his coaching career. This is a big bounce-back spot for the Aggies and I'm confident in their offense's ability to keep pace with the Cougars on Friday night. Take Utah State.

Tonight's Phillies & Marlins game features two struggling offenses and two starting pitchers that have been lights out recently. The Marlins have averaged 2 runs a game over their last 7 games while scoring 3 runs or less in each game. The Phillies have averaged 1.5 runs a game over their last 4 while scoring less than 3 runs in each game as well. Both of these offenses have been bottom of the barrel as they rank 20th and 30th in batting average over the last 15 days. Tonights starters both pitch to the under as 7 of Alcantaras last 10 starts have went under while 8 of Ranger Suarezs last 10 starts have also stayed under the number. In Suarez's lone start against Philadelphia 5 runs were scored while Alcantaras two starts against the Phillies saw 6 and 2 runs scored. Ranger Suarez 11 starts have averaged 6.55 runs a game and he should have no trouble against a Marlins team that ranks 29th in both batting average and OPS against lefties this season. Alcantara has been dominant at home especially recently as he has a 0.97 ERA in his last 5 home starts. This will be both of these hot starting pitchers last chance to shine and neither one of these offenses can get out of their own way. It's also a pitcher friendly ballpark so runs will be at a premium, we will keep the bullpens out of it and rely on both starters to keep the first five total under 3.5.

Houston barely broke a sweat in their three-game September sweep of Rice, Grambling, and Navy. Unlike Houston, Tulsa scuffled with a schedule that included games in Columbus against Ohio State and Oklahoma State inside Boone-Pickens in Stillwater. Losses to the Buckeyes and the Cowboys are nothing to be embarrassed by; however, losing to Subdivision UC Davis is concerning.
The Cougars' victories over the Owls, Tigers, and Midshipmen displayed how strong the team is on defense. Houston held their last three opponents to less than 100 yards passing. And in the Cougars season-opener against Big 12 Texas Tech, the Houston averaged only 4.6 yards per pass and a mere 2.2 per rush. The Red Raiders issued the Cougars their first and only loss of the season so far.
Tulsa has shown little to no offensive creativity, and the defensive has been porous at best. If there was a time, a team, and a space for Houston to improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in league play, this matchup is it. That time is Saturday, the space is H.A. Chapman Stadium, and the team to inflict the pain to is Tulsa. Free Pick is a play on Houston plus the points.

Last Saturday's final score between the Boise State Broncos and Utah State Aggies is misleading. The Broncos earned a 27-3 victory in Logan, plethora but a plethera of variables suggest that the contest was closer than the final score. The BYU Cougars are in Logan, Utah, on Saturday with the aim of keeping their perfect 4-0 mark this season a perfect 5-0.
The Aggies slightly outgained Boise State (443 to 435) but managed only three points from the 443 yards of total offense. A trio of untimely and unforced turnovers combined with 13 penalties was too much for the Aggies to overcome.
Utah State crossed into Boise State’s red zone four times and came away with but three points. Head coach Blake Anderson's Aggies, play at tempo and have been uber-successful with their aggressive, offensive scheme under first-year head coach Blake Anderson with wins at Washington State vs. North Dakota, and at Air Force. BYU's September schedule and undefeated 4-0 record have inflated their market value.

It isn't easy to imagine that the 2021 BYU Cougars are 4-0 without a bell-cow running back and last season NFL second overall selection, quarterback Zach Wilson. Even more difficult to swallow is that after the Cougars swept their September schedule that included wins over Pac-12 Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah that the programs vanilla offense and Plain Jane schemes have created an inflated market for the Cougars.
The five yards and a cloud of dust rushing attack that the Cougars owned in 2020 are nowhere to be found. Also, you won't find a future NFL signal-caller behind center in Provo or on the BYU bus, train, or plane traveling to a Saturday event. Instead, yesterday's elusive and strong-armed Zach Wilson is living and playing in the Big Apple.
BYU didn't perform to an eye-opening level in their wins over the Pac-12 across the first three Saturdays of the schedule. All things equal, the Cougars allowed Utah and Arizona State to own the team's defensive front averaging eight and five yards per carrying, respectively. The explosive and uptempo offense of first-year coach Blake Anderson is a threat to BYU's unblemished record, and the free pick for the matchup between the Cougars and Aggies this Saturday morning in Logan is the home team plus the points.
