Eddie Olczyk: Best Bets | Saturday, December 18, 2021

            December 17, 2021 | By Eddie Olczyk

NBC handicapper Eddie Olczyk returns for his weekly Saturday spot plays. All 3 best bets Saturday come from Gulfstream Park.

            Gulfstream Park // Race 5 // 1:54 pm ET // Grade 3 $100,000 Suwanee River Stakes // 1 mile (turf)

            #2 In A Hurry (5-1 ML)

Well-drawn contender can take advantage of saving ground with a stalking trip under Javier Castellano. Course winner is 2-for-4 at the mile trip. Win bet.

            //

            Gulfstream Park // Race 7 // 2:58 pm ET // claiming // 5-1/2 furlongs (Tapeta)

            #9 Backwoods Boogie (15-1 ML)

Longshot player threw out the anchor last time going a route of ground, but returns to a more preferred sprint distance. Last showed he could handle the synthetic surface and prior route-to-sprint tries have been respectable. Win-place bet. Daily double 9-5 to final play.

            //

            Gulfstream Park // Race 8 // 3:28 pm ET // Grade 3 $100,000 Sugar Swirl Stakes // 6 furlongs

            #5 Center Aisle (2-1 ML)

Impressive Kentucky allowance wins after nearly a year on the sidelines. She's ready for a stakes class rise and could be the one to catch under hot-riding Luis Saez. Win bet.

Race of the Week: Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream | Sat., Dec. 18

              December 16, 2021 | By Jeremy Plonk

$200,000 GRADE 2 FORT LAUDERDALE AT GULFSTREAM PARK

              The Lead:
'Twas the week before Christmas, and Gulfstream Park has stuffed its stocking with 5 stakes races, 4 of the graded variety. We'll hone in on Race 10, the $200,000 Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale for turf routers at 1-1/8 miles. The undercard also includes the Grade 3 Harlan's Holiday on dirt as a potential prep for the Pegasus World Cup in late January.

Horseplayers on the Xpressbet and 1/ST BET platforms can take part in Saturday's Gulfstream Park late pick 4 hit-and-split promotion. Win your late pick 4 bet and split $2000 in additional cash with other horseplayers on the platform who found success.

              Field Depth:
KING GUILLERMO is the only Grade 2 domestic winner in the field, and that came on dirt. SPACE TRAVELLER won a Group 2 in Ireland in 2019. Grade 3 winners in the lineup include ANALYZE IT, ENGLISH BEE and SOLE VOLANTE. The toughest company lines of late obviously belong to SPACE TRAVELLER in this group, who holds the class edge.

              Pace:
The tempo should be fair-to-quick for this distance with DOSWELL, RENAISSANCE FROLIC, ANALYZE IT and ORDER AND LAW all wanting to press the pace that could be set by KING GUILLERMO. The pace would shift to fast if also-eligible BROWN STORM was to draw into the race.

              Our Eyes:
SPACE TRAVELLER starts from the 12-hole, so Tyler Gaffalione will have to work out a trip over the narrowed GP turf course since September's unveiling of the Tapeta track. With some early pace in posts 6,8,9 and 10, it might not be as wide of a trip as the worst-case scenario. He's working very well for this and should be a big late danger.

Chad Brown, who won this race in 2019 with Instilled Regard, sends out ANALYZE IT and L'IMPERADOR, the former possessing the deeper domestic resume, but the latter perhaps being the 'now' horse. The draw and pace scenario also favor L'IMPERADOR and I like the jockey change to John Velazquez on Saturday. ANALYZE IT did wire a Belmont allowance last time out in October, but he's lost ground in the final chart call in nearly all of his starts and may be dependent on an easier pace than he'll get Saturday. ANALYZE IT has lost 5 of his last 7 when favored, so he's had plenty of chances.

Mike Maker, winner of the 2018 Fort Lauderdale with Shining Copper, counters with the trio of MEDIA BLITZ, ORDER AND LAW and ATONED. SoCal transplant MEDIA BLITZ has been first or second in all 4 lifetime starts at this distance; ORDER AND LAW also comes east off the Maker claim but stretches out from his typical mile trip; and ATONE has won 2 of his last 3 since coming to this barn. MEDIA BLITZ interests the most among this threesome that looks pretty similar on paper.

Last year's Fort Lauderdale 2-3 finishers re-match in DOSWELL and BREAKING THE RULES. Both hit similar spots in their form cycles, a few races back after extended breaks for much of 2021. BREAKING THE RULES might be slightly sharper coming out of mile races than DOSWELL, who has been going closer to marathon trips. The solid early pace expected here also would tilt the edge to late-running BREAKING THE RULES in this head-to-head.

Course winners ENGLISH BEE, RENAISSANCE FROLIC and SOLE VOLANTE defend home turf, but it's RENAISSANCE FROLIC who seems to have the course advantage. His 4 wins on this turf lifetime are more than the rest of the field's 3-for-15 record combined.

              Most Certain Exotics Contender:
L'EMPERADOR has improved his margin in the last call of every start since coming to the US and catches a stakes field on the class rise that's not beyond his scope.

              Best Longshot Exotics Contender:
KING GUILLERMO has the ability to pop a big effort, but lacks consistency. His lightning workout for this indicates he's on tilt and will try to take them as far as his speed will allow. That could find him holding on for a share on his best effort at a nice price.

              Sending it in ($100 bankroll):
              $80 win L'IMPERADOR. $10 exacta box L'IMPERADOR and SPACE TRAVELLER ($20).

Best Horse Racing Bets for Saturday, December 18, 2021
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

The three tracks I surveyed for my Saturday horseracing picks provided us with a stakes-rich environment for our underdog scouting and wagering pleasure.

Laurel Park and Mahoning Valley Race Course each offered a couple of state stakes races, while Turfway Park features the Prairie Bayou Stakes (Listed).

You can get the full story on all the horses in all the races with a quick visit to our recommended online racebooks.

                  Good luck!
                  Saturday’s Picks for Laurel Park

Let’s begin on the dirt track with race six, a six-furlong allowance run for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m backing the 7/5 morning-line favorite for this race—Fraudulent Charge piloted by Johan Rosado.

This three-year-old filly finished in the money for all seven of her career starts, winning one. Even in this very competitive field of ten, she’s a standout, finishing second in each of her four stakes races, the most recent being the Safely Kept Stakes (Listed) last month at Laurel Park.

Lacey Gaudet trains Fraudulent Charge for owners Team Gaudet and Five Hellions Farm. Gaudet has put Rosado in the irons for all seven of Fraudulent Charge’s races.

Race seven is the Maryland Juvenile Fillies Championship Stakes, a $100,000 purse, seven-furlong run on the main track for Maryland-bred or sired two-year-old fillies. I’m betting on the 7/2 second-favored Luna Belle, ridden by top jockey Denis Araujo.
Unlike the favorite, this filly has moneyed a stakes race. For the record, Luna Belle finished in the money four of her six career starts, winning one. She most recently finished second in the Smart Halo Stakes (Black Type) last month at Laurel Park.

Longtime racing veteran and co-owner Hamilton A. Smith trains Luna Belle for Deborah S. Greene and himself.

Race eight is the Maryland Juvenile Championship Stakes, a $100,000 purse, seven-furlong run on the main track for Maryland-bred or -sired two-year-olds. I’m calling this one for the third-favored (at 61) Coastal Mission, with Arnaldo Bocachica in the irons.

This gelding finished in the money for both of his career starts, winning his initial maiden attempt at Charles Town in September, then placing second in the Maryland Million Nursery Stakes (Black Type) at Laurel Park in October. Incidentally, this race’s 9/2 favorite—Local Motive—finished third in that stakes race.

The regularly top-100 ranked trainer Jeff C. Runco trains Coastal Mission for owner-breeder Coleswood Farm, Inc.
Saturday Picks for Mahoning Valley Race Course

We’re on the main track for race four, a six-furlong allowance race for Ohio-bred three-year-olds and upward that have never won four races. I like the 5/2 second-favored Wapakoneta Phil, ridden by veteran jockey T.D. Houghton.

This four-year-old gelding finished seven of his nine career starts in the money, winning his second maiden try at Thistledown last fall, an allowance race there shortly thereafter, and most recently, an allowance race at Thistledown in October. He’ll do.

Candace M. Huffman trains Wapakoneta Phil for J S Stable.

Race six is the Joshua Radosevich Memorial Stakes, a $75,000 purse, six-furlong dirt track run for Ohio-bred two-year-olds. I’m going to agree with the morning-line here and bet my two dollars on the 7/5 favorite, Thedayofthegrey, with Sonny Leon aboard.
This gelding finished in the money four of his five career starts, winning three, including the Best of Ohio Cleveland Kindergarten Stakes (Black Type) at Thistledown in August and the Loyalty Stakes (Black Type) at Belterra Park in September.

He ran out of gas in the home stretch in his most recent stakes challenge—the 1-1/16-mile Best of Ohio Juvenile Stakes (Black Type)—but at the shorter distance of this race he should do just fine.

Co-owner and thirty-year racing veteran Robert C. Cline trains Thedayofthegrey for himself and Richard M. Wilkinson.

Race seven is the Bobbie Bricker Memorial Handicap, a $75,000 purse, one mile and 70 yards stakes race for Ohio-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward. My money’s on the second-favored (at 4/1) Star Rules, with Jeffrey Sanchez in the irons.

This four-year-old filly moneyed nine of her 14 career starts, winning three, including her most recent. Notably, she finished second in both the Miss Southern Ohio Stakes at Belterra Park in September and the Ohio Debutante Handicap at Mahoning Valley last month. She scored all three of her wins in 2021.

James H. McDonald trains Star Rules for owner-breeder Doris Tummillo. Jeffrey Sanchez saddled Star Rules for her most recent victory.
My Saturday Picks for Turfway Park

We’re on the all-weather track for race five—the Prairie Bayou Stakes, 1-1/16 miles run for three-year-olds and upward. I must agree with the morning line that the 3/1 favorite, Snapper Sinclair, is the right wager for this race. He’s saddled this run by top jockey Rafael Bejarano.

As you might expect, this six-year-old has been quite aggressively campaigned at the stakes level and has garnered plenty of proof that he belongs there: 20 money finishes in 35 career starts, seven of those wins, including the Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase Juvenile Stakes (Black Type) in 2017, the Tourist Mile Stakes (Listed) in 2019, and the TVG Stakes (Listed) in September.

If nothing else, this horse has staying power.

Steven M. Asmussen trains Snapper Sinclair for Bloom Racing Stable LLC (Jeffrey Bloom).

Race six is a 6-1/2 furlong allowance optional claiming race on the all-weather track for three-year-olds and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the 7/2 second-favored Soaring Bird, ridden by Chase Miller.
While the favorite, Greener Pastures, has the best of it as far as overall records go, my choice of Soaring Bird has more to do with what kind of year 2021 has been. And this year, this six-year-old gelding has moneyed every single one of his eight starts, winning two.

In comparison, Greener Pastures finished in the money six of his ten 2021 starts, with three wins.

Waylon Cundiff trains Soaring Bird for owners Louis Hoagland, Gary Flood, and Michael David Portman.

Race seven is a 6-1/2 furlong allowance optional claiming race on the all-weather track for three-year-olds and upward. I gotta back the 8/5 morning-line favorite here: Visitant, ridden by veteran jockey Gerardo Corrales.

This five-year-old finishes teen of his 13 career starts in the money, winning six, including the Alcatraz Stakes (Black Type) at Golden Gate Fields in 2019 and the Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes (Listed) at Turfway Park in March of 2021.

He also finished second in the Alysheba Stakes (Grade II) at Churchill Downs in April. He’s got this.

Twenty-year racing veteran William E. Morey trains Visitant for owner-breeder Williamson Racing LLC.

NYRA's Aqueduct Racetrack is now full swing into the Winter Meet. Though the turf is covered until April, dirt racing is 100% available ... so, this is still one of the tracks that garners mass attention. Today, we have a couple of NY Stallion Series races on the docket ... let's go!

At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 1: Early Voting #7, 5/2):

I do not normally back 1st time starters because you just never know if they really understand that a race is going on … But sometimes you come across a field that you know is going to have a hard time against them. This is one of those few moments … Chad Brown has some strong numbers when it comes to runners like these, and his colt by Gun Runner looks poised to break his maiden the 1st time out. When this conditioner gets together with Jose Ortiz, they can be downright unstoppable. Bet this one to “win” …

                    Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #7

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Bustin Pietre #2, 8/1):

Here is a nice value play for your Saturday that is trainer by Bruce Levine and ridden by Kendrick Carmouche. I like to see these 2 get together because they work in concert quite well. This gelding by Bustin Stones stepped up from an MC50k into a BT 100k last time, and did not disappoint. He went on nicely, and even though he was 8 lengths back in the end, it was still a game effort for 2nd. Stretching out a bit from 6F to 7F should not be an issue, and Carmouche is up for a 3rd time. This 2-yr-old has some major upside, and I think bettors will overlook his fitness level.

                    Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #2 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 7F, NY Stallion Series S., $500k, 2F):

The “other” NY Stallion Series race on the docket is probably the tougher of the 2 … depending on how you look at it. Morning Matcha #6 will probably get the nod as the race time favorite, especially since she comes in with a pair of nice wins under her saddle. Those contests were a MSW80k and OC40k at Parx, but make no mistake, the Reid Barn has come to play. Kendrick Carmouche was on board for those scores, so the connections were probably thinking that this race was next. I want to use this runner in my wagering, but frankly, I think this daughter of Central Banker is going to get over bet. Instead, I am much more interested in a better priced filly like Christophe Clement’s Shigeko #11. This one by Japan is moving up in class from running in MSW75k Co., and she took on the slop back at Belmont in fine style. Winning by 6+ lengths, she drew off in a big way. Now, with Dylan Davis up, she could be a great double-digit price when this one goes off from a barn that is superhot. Last but not least, I want to consider another entry from Central Banker’s line named Bank On Anna #9. Here is a filly who dueled down the lane at Aqueduct back in early November, finishing 2nd for Phil Serpe. That MSW70k contest was a tough one, as it saw 11 break from the gate. With Jose Lezcano on board, she has the chance to take a step forward even more in this spot. What a race this one is going to be! Let’s play …

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Box, 6/9/11

Most Likely Winner: (Race 6: Flatoutjustice #9, 6/1):

I know it seems odd to back a “Most Likely Winner” that could be in excess of 5/1 on the tote. But I have a strong feeling about this one, and I think Randy Matthews has this gelding by Flat Out pointed in the right direction. He has 48 starts to his credit, and though only 4 of those were wins, I think this spot could be right. Running at Oaklawn is tough, but the folks at Ten Strike Racing invest in some good ones. With Cristian Torres in the saddle, I think this one is a bet. He was double-entered, and Matthews chose to scratch him from the Claiming contest that he was entered in … that speaks to confidence. Let’s play this one to win!

                      Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #9

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 1: Pit Boss #4, 6/1):

There is some major upside to this gelding by Union Rags, and it should not go unnoticed. Even though his speed figs maybe are not exactly where they need to be, the 4-yr-old has a strong late leg kick. If he can get some fairly stiff fractions, then that should help get this one home for Norm Cash. He already has a good Meet going, and I like the talent of Kylee Jordan. She gets the weight relief, and can add another win on her Oaklawn experience.

                      Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Dirt, 1 1/8th, The Tinsel S., $200k, 3+):

With all the weather rolling through Arkansas, it is tough to know how the track will setup on Saturday. What we do know is that probably the best runner in Robertino Diodoro’s stable, Lone Rock #2 is back at it, after he shipped to Del Mar to run on the BC undercard. He won in fine style in that Grade 2 race, and deserves to be the favorite in this spot. It is a class drop to be sure, and I would expect the 6-yr-old gelding by Majestic Warrior to be well-bet. If Ramon Vasquez gets a decent break, and can rate efficiently, then he probably scores. I am all for playing against this one because I just don’t see much in the way of value. I see this really as a 2-horse race, and would not be surprised to see Brad Cox’s Warrior’s Charge #7 gaming with Diodoro’s ace down the lane. They are both so classy, but I think that Cox’s 5-yr-old is overdue for a score. With Florent Geroux in the irons, he knows this one through and through. What a rubber match this is going to be!

                      Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Cold, 7 w 2

The action continues today as we have hit the weekend! For the free pick 4, we will head to Aqueduct once again today, since we continue to have success at that track. There is also great action at Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn as well. Let’s see if we can hit this late pick 4 at Aqueduct!

Below is our free Late Pick 4 for Aqueduct:

                        Aqueduct December 18, 2021

Race 6: New York Stallion Series Stakes

#1 Unique Unions will look to make it two in a row today after an impressive maiden special weight win in his last start. #6 Geno moves to the dirt for this race after running three solid races over the turf. If he takes to the surface, he as the talent to get the job done against this group.

                        Race 7: Starter Allowance

#7 No Burn runs second off of the claim for Morey in this spot after a poor effort last time out. The pace should set up better for him today, though. #3 F F Rocket will get back to the dirt for this race after a complete no show on the turf last time out.

Race 8: New York Stallion Series Stakes

#6 Morning Matcha has looked impressive in her last two starts, winning by multiple lengths at Parx. She should be ready for this race today. #3 Laobans Legacy seems to be improving with each start so far. This small stretch out in distance should be to her liking.

                        Race 9: Allowance

#2 Uncle George has been solid over the turf, but will move to the dirt today, and has a pedigree that suggests that he will like the surface. #3 Raven Rocks will look to make it two in a row in this spot after a nice win against claiming company in his last start.

Free Horse Racing Tips Today – Saturday, December 18th, 2021
                          By Rob Davis

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, December 18th, and provided our best horse racing tips.

Whilst plenty of us are winding down heading into Christmas, the racing action, much like the weather, continues to heat up around the country.

Summer looks to have finally arrived for the final Saturday before Christmas which means we will get to see some tracks rated in the ‘Good’ range and the field sizes stand up. This means we will be betting with plenty of confidence and hopefully lining our Christmas stockings this week.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, December 18th.
                          Royal Randwick, Race 1 – 2. Himalaism ($4.20)

They don’t come with a much better 2yo pedigree than this I Am Invincible/Snitzerland Colt. Out of a champion stallion who has sired a 2yo Magic Millions winner, by a dam who ran second to Pierro in a Golden Slipper and won a Group 1 Lightning stakes. We think trainer Chris Waller might have been keeping this one under wraps in its two trials to date.

He wasn’t ridden out late when he loomed like he was going to go straight past them in his debut trial, and then was buried away third the fence and not asked to do much in his latest trial. Both of those hitouts have been over 900m but he looks to have had plenty in store when crossing the line and given the grounding they get in this barn, we are confident the 1200 will pose no issues. Looks a very nice horse who can get the punters off to a flying start.
                          Flemington, Race 2 – 2. Squid Game ($2.60)

This 3yo Shooting to Win gelding did everything right on debut when he crossed from a wide draw and camped outside the leader, Ridden out hands and heels by Michael Dee to score comfortably and he backs up again for the ride Saturday.

Stays at the 1200m and looks to be suited by the long run home at Flemington. There was solid support for him on debut where he didn’t let punters down and we expect the same from him again here.
                          Flemington, Race 4 – 7. Rose Quartz ($5.00)

This well bred, lightly raced daughter of Written Tycoon is handled by master conditioner Grahame Begg who has plenty of pedigree of his own when it comes to dealing with horses of the fairer sex. We really liked her will to win in her most recent run over the 1140m at Geelong where she knuckled down strongly and savaged the line late.

The step to 1200m and the vast expanses of Flemington looks an ideal place for her to kick off her foray into metropolitan racing. She was well supported at her latest win and we expect those punters to back up here so grab the good odds whilst they are on offer.

                          Royal Randwick, Race 5 – 1. Mubariz ($11/$3.10)

Really liked the way he found the line first up, but was given absolutely no peace by Tom Sherry last week when he was niggled the whole way and asked to do plenty of work in the run.

He boxed on steadily enough to hold down fourth there and we really like the idea of him backing up here and getting to 2000m, and hopefully apprentice Sherry is all the better for the experience and I think we take it as a positive that Waller has decided to stick with him.

He’s a European breed whose best performances have been around this middle distance trip and he’s adept on all going. Worth an each way ticket at double figure odds.
                          Royal Randwick, Race 8 – 2. Purple Sector ($8.00/$2.45)

He’s never won below 1500m, never won first up, he’s drawn the outside gate, and he’s certainly never been one of my horses but we think it is very hard to go past him on his recent trial especially given his quality when lined up against this opposition. Half the field are resuming here and his second trial was the most eye-catching of those lot and at close to double figure odds, we think he represents a solid each way betting choice.

He defies his breeding, being by wet track sire Pins, with all his victories coming on a good track which we are sure to get with temperatures ticking into the 30’s on Saturday at Randwick. Rawiller rode him in the trial but with him unavailable you get the next best thing in Hugh Bowman. We can’t see him not running top three against this lot.

Best Bet – 4. Rose Quartz (Flemington, Race 7)
Next Best – 2. Purple Sector (Randwick, Race 8)
Best Roughie – 1. Mubariz (Randwick, Race 5)

                            Today’s Racing Tips – December 18th

There are six cracking NH races on ITV on Saturday, with Ascot and Haydock staging two top level meetings with big fields and ultra competitive handicaps likely to dominate the betting markets.

The main race of the day is the 2.25pm Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot, where Nicky Henderson’s Buzz is likely to be a warm order to follow up his impressive course win here last month. At Haydock, the Tommy Whittle handicap chase is sure to be ultra competitive and a thorough test of stamina in the soft ground.

13:50 ASCOT GUY Nigel Twiston-Davies chaser has shaped really well in defeat twice already this season, jumping well given his relative inexperience, and has conditions to suit at Ascot on Saturday.
14:05 HAYDOCK UP FOR PAROL Jamie Snowden has a cracking team of young horses to go to battle with this winter, and his unexposed novice can revive after disappointing over fences last time out.
14:25 ASCOT BUZZ Nicky Henderson’s progressive hurdler was really impressive when winning here at the last meeting, and that form got a major boost when the third ho,e Guard Your Dreams won the International Hurdle at Cheltenham.
14:40 HAYDOCK VINTAGE CLOUDS Sue Smith’s runners have hot form in the past few weeks, with most just needing a run or two to reach peak fitness, and this reliable stayer has conditions to suit at Haydock on Saturday (with the 5lb claimer Theo Gillard booked a plus).
15:00 ASCOT CLOTH CAP Jonjo O’Neill’s chaser ran a lot better than the bare result when sixth behind Cloudy Glen at Newbury last time out (blundered at the wrong time), and should now be spot on fitness-wise after two runs this season.
15:35 ASCOT WEST CORK Dan Skelton’s lightly raced performer landed quite a touch when returning from a long absence in November, and can defy a lenient rise up the weights under Harry Skelton.

America’s Best Racing and handicapper (and avid gambler) Monique Vág team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend.

Vág will identify her top picks as well as at least one longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet. She also will occasionally look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.

#5 Bench Walk: There are a few in here that may be a bit overbet based on their most recent starts. With 2-year-olds competing within the maiden ranks, I try to avoid judging or overvaluing one performance too harshly. Of course, we can see considerable improvement from one start to the next with adequate changes, or more experience, but sometimes based on workouts, pedigree, and trainer stats, you can find a lot of value to back to a runner in their first start.

His recent workouts have been solid and timing-wise he really looks quick. With a great draw in the center of the gate, I hope to see early speed out of this colt. He’s shown a lot more of it these past few months in the mornings.

                              Best Bet

                              Gulfstream Park, Race 9, $150,000 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes, 3:59 p.m. ET

#6 Fearless: He was the beaten favorite in his two most recent outings, but those were versus much tougher. His last outing was his first start in six months, so I would expect him even sharper with a start under his belt. Through four starts at Gulfstream Park, he’s been no worse than second and put forth his career best Brisnet Speed rating of 107 in his second start in Florida.

We’ve seen this colt produce victories off many different types of trips, and meeting a smaller field in here adds even more the appeal in case the break is slow once again. Either way, he’s going to be incredibly tough versus this group and the price should be very short at post. He’ll be a single for me across some of those multi-leg wagers as I search for value in some other races in the sequence.

                              Best Bet

Gulfstream Park, Race 10, $200,000 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes, 4:32 p.m. ET

#2 L’Imperator: Although his victories haven’t been flashy and his margin of victory is often pretty close, this gelding has been racing extremely well since making the move overseas and landing in the Chad Brown barn. His best efforts have been off stalking trips and he’s looked strong down the lane when he’s found clear racing room.

The race once again could set up very well for him given the inside draw to work with and speed drawing on both sides of him. He should be positioned well with a good shot to track them down late.

                              Longshot Play

                              Oaklawn Park, Race 10, 5:40 p.m. ET

#11 Seven Flat: Speaking about considerable improvements from one start to the next, this colt was much better in his second career race while stretching out in distance and showing a bit more early speed. With an outside draw to navigate from, a quicker start will very likely be imperative to avoid traffic trouble down the lane.

Blinkers will be added which could be an important addition to ensure that early speed and he will also be making his first start racing on Lasix (furosemide). As long as he takes another step forward, he looks to be a major player and should offer a nice price at post.
