The Houston Rockets went just 17-55 last season, ending an 8-year playoff run. The current season was expected to be a rebuilding year and the Rockets opened 1-16. Out of nowhere, the Rockets ripped off a seven-game winning streak (Nov 24-Dec 8) but since that run, they have gone 2-7 to check in at 10-23 (worst record in the Western Conference). The Charlotte Hornets were 33-39 last season, missing the playoffs for the FIFTH consecutive season. That said, there was some optimism in Charlotte at the beginning of the season and the Hornets have played MUCH better, as they currently stand 17-17 (just a half-game out of the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference).

The 6-11 Christian Wood leads the team in scoring (17.2) and rebounding (10.9), while SG Eric Gordon (14.6) comes in second on the team and is the highest-scoring backcourt player. The Rockets could get a boost from Jalen Green (14,3), who racked up 20 points Thursday night at Indiana in his first game returning to action following a hamstring injury. PG Porter (12.8-4.4-5.8) is listed as probable and SF Tate (12.3 & 5.7) has had a solid season.

Ball (19.8-7.5-8.0) missed some games earlier with COVID issues but it's pretty obvious that last season's rookie-of-the-year is the 'real deal!' Bridges (19.7 & 7.2) is having a 'career season' and Hayward (17.4-4.7-3.8) has only missed games plus guard Rozier (16.5) and swingman Oubre (16.5 & 4.1) give the Hornets FIVE players averaging 16-plus points. However, Bridges and Washington (10.9 & 5.2) have just been placed in the league's safety and health protocols.

This contest concludes a stretch of five consecutive on the road for Houston, which arrives with a three-game losing streak. As for the Hornets, they are coming off a 2-4 road trip, which was capped by a 115-107 comeback victory at Denver after trailing by 19 points! Charlotte has played 22 road games and just 12 at home (the Hornets are 8-4). Meanwhile, the Rockets visit Charlotte 3-16 on the road. My guess (bet) is that the Hornets will remember losing a 146-143 shootout loss in OT at Houston back on Nov 27 and deliver a 'knockout' win in this one. Lay the points.

The Rockets are reasonably healthy and should have each of their top five scorers for this game if Jalen Green (questionable) plays tonight. Give me the Rockets.

Given their home-court losing streak and large COVID-19 problem, the Hawks are becoming an auto-fade.
Atlanta has lost seven in a row at home. The Hawks are 0-8 ATS in their past eight home games.
Chicago has COVID issues, too, but nothing as bad as the Hawks. The latest key Hawks player going into COVID protocol is John Collins. He joins Trae Young, Danilo Gallinari, Kevin Huerter, Lou Williams and six other players.
Missing all those players, the Hawks are having trouble competing. They lost, 101-87, to the Knicks on Christmas in their last game. That was their lowest scoring game of the season. Young and Collins are Atlanta's two best players.
The Bulls are one of the most improved teams in the league going 20-10. They are on a 3-game win streak. Chicago is 6-2 ATS as a road favorite.
