Tuesday's Free NCAAB Pick is on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as a 4-point home dog against the Michigan Wolverines. This is just too good a price to pass up with Rutgers at home against a Michigan team that simply hasn't lived up the hype. The Wolverines are just 7-5 and coming off an ugly 71-85 loss at UCF last time out. Rutgers is also 7-5, but have been playing much better of late and a lot of that has to do with the return of Geo Baker to the lineup. I like the Scarlet Knights to not only cover, but win this game outright. Bet Rutgers +4!

NHL | Lightning vs Blue Jackets

Both expected goalies were rusty after the break; in fact, they were unexpectedly poor. Columbus gave up 7 goals, and while that number was especially high, high goals against has been an ugly trend for the Blue Jackets. The Lightning came out flat, and were shut out by the Rangers, so look for a lot more snap and crackle on Tuesday. Both teams have decent goals-for figures; Columbus's defense has not been impressive. The Total is only average for this game at the moment. I like the OVER here. A motivated Lightning team will take it to the Jackets and ride this game over.

Tuesday NHL Free play. My selection is on Tampa Bay over Columbus at 7:05 pm et on Tuesday.
It's not too often we get a chance to back the Lightning on the heels of three consecutive losses but that's the case on Tuesday night in Columbus. In fact, this is only the second time that situation has come up this season. The only other time it did, the Bolts responded with a 5-1 rout of the Penguins in Pittsburgh. A similar result wouldn't surprise me in the least here. We cashed a ticket fading the Blue Jackets in their last game as they blew a four-goal lead in an eventual 7-4 loss to the Hurricanes. Here, we'll note that the Lightning are a perfect 8-0 when playing on the road after losing three of their last four games over the last three seasons, outscoring opponents by 1.7 goals on average in that spot. They're also an incredible 25-4 after scoring one goal or less in their previous game over the last three seasons, outscoring the opposition by 1.3 goals on average in that situation. Take Tampa Bay.

The Spurs opened the season 4-13 but then won 10 of 15 to reach 14-18, after a 144-109 home win over the Pistons on Dec 26. However, teh Spurs haven't won since. They lost a home game on Dec27 and then saw a home game with Miami postponed on Dec 29. San Antonio then embarked on a seven-game road and lost the first two. The journey continues tonight with the now 14-21 Spurs visiting the 16-17 Raptors up in Toronto. Slightly more than a week ago, the Raptors were trying to assemble a team while having 10 players in the COVID-19 protocol. However, with most of their players back in the lineup, Toronto will be going for its third straight victory on Tuesday night.
San Antonio's best player, Dejounte Murray (17.8-8.4-8.8), is currently in the league's health and safety protocols, as are McDermott (11.4) and Walker (11.2). Sant Antonio's starting five in its last game consisted of SF Johnson (15.0 & 6.6), center Poeltl (12.2 & 8.5) plus guards White (14.5 & 5.6 APG) Vassell (10.8) and Jones (4.3). In contrast, rookie Barnes (15.5 & 8.1) was last regular to return from health and safety protocols for the Raptors (last Sunday), joining PG Van Vleet (20.9-5.0-6.7), PF Siakam (19.9-8.4-4.3), SF Anunoby (19.4 & 5.2) and SG Trent (16.2). That makes FIVE Toronto players averaging 16-plus points per game.
With the regulars back, Raptors head coach Nick Nurse must figure out his rotations. That's a 'problem' Popovich would 'love' to have. Tonight's contest completes a four-game homestand for Toronto and a victory would give them a .500 record for the season. That's the play. Lay the points.
