    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Golden Gate - Race #3
    Picks Notes
#3 Crown Kitten She should land a perfect trip in here and might be able to prompt the likely chalk who is drawn just inside of her. Think she's interesting enough as something like the second choice in here.
#2 Galwalksintoabar She should be in the mix from the start here, and she has been in great form as she looks for her fourth straight score today. Have to think she is going to be tough in here.
#6 Toni Two Pocket She draws outside with some forward pace, and she has faced some tougher customers in some of those recent starts. Think she might find a couple in here too tough, but I wouldn't be shocked to see her stick around for a piece.
Race Summary Crown Kitten should get a really good go of things while tracking the splits in here, and she would be really attractive at anything like 5/2 today.

    Golden Gate - Race #6
    Picks Notes
#3 Clem Labine He's at the mercy of what unfolds in front of him, but there are a couple of pretty decent forward players lined up in here, and this guy might have a chance to pick them all up late.
#1 Let's Rejoyce He owns sharp pace from the fence, and it's tough to argue with the recent form that has seen him win three in a row and seven of his last nine. Worry that the rail draw could be his undoing.
#4 War Games He's likely to be in the mix early again here, but he tends to be a little bit vulnerable in the deeper stages of his races, and he might get outfinished again here.
Race Summary Clem Labine benefits if all of the pace and chasing types show up in the early going, as he has a really formidable finishing kick and has been a pretty good fit with this type.

    Golden Gate - Race #8
    Picks Notes
#1 Maybe Sometime He didn't have the cleanest go last time out, and he's worth another look with this kind of company off that one. Cutback finisher seems like a good fit here.
#3 Bourbonwithatwist Tactical pace is competitive with these, but he has settled for the runner-up spot in four straight tries, and he has typically been a more reliable underneath player. Capable, but underlaid, win contender.
#6 Excessive Cat He'll need to do a bit better this time around after chasing and fading with similar last time out, but his best stuff fits well enough here if he can manage to dig in a bit late.
Race Summary Maybe Sometime looks the part in here after a troubled trip last time around, and he has run well around one turn in the past, so maybe this sharper trip wakes him up a little bit.

      #17
      Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

      Gulfstream Park - Race #7
      Picks Notes
#2 Science Friction Crushed rivals by eight lengths two back and then followed with a third in her latest; perfect for the mile distance.
#1 Cajun Cousin Was third in two straight sprints and looks like she has the running style to like the one-turn mile.
#6 Queen Camilla Has been in much tougher races and can wake up with this class drop.
Race Summary Science Friction is tough close to the lead and has a good chance to battle for every jump of this one.

      Gulfstream Park - Race #9
      Picks Notes
#2 Hercules Gets some class relief here as he drops from stakes company; can gain confidence as he goes along against this group.
#1 Rockstar Ro Faltered and finished fourth last out in his first of this Gulfstream season and can improve here.
#6 Mid Day Image Won three straight last year and was second, beaten by a neck, in his latest; can battle for the lead throughout.
Race Summary Hercules hasn't shown a lot of interest in much tougher races and should find this spot more to his liking.

      Gulfstream Park - Race #10
      Picks Notes
#2 First Captain He won the first three races of his career, including the G3 Dwyer, and last appeared when third in the Curlin; has worked well for his return.
#3 Trophy Chaser Has been a regular here and was one perceived as a top runner in these parts; capable of a big effort.
#5 Dennis' Moment Was third in the G3 Mr Prospector two back and has been defeated by some of the best; solid player at this level and distance.
Race Summary First Captain is lightly raced but has won three of four; capable of a big effort in his return.

Gulfstream Park Selections for February 27, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

        By Kyle E in Horse Racing — Feb 26th, 2022 9:12pm PST

Gulfstream Park Selections for February 27, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The $1,000,000 Rebel Stakes (Gr. 1) is in the books with an upset by a 75-1 runner. The one-eyed Un Ojo won the million-dollar race to upset Bob Baffert and frustrate him even more.

        Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

It’s always fun to witness a monster upset and Un Ojo did just that in the Rebel. If your horse doesn’t win, then pulling for a crazy upset and watching Baffert lose is the next-best scenario.

Baffert goes down, while Un Ojo and his team score 50 points and the top prize out of the $1,000,000 purse. The next notable prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby is on March 5.

There are three 50-20-10-5 races located at Gulfstream Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Tampa Bay Downs. At the end of March, the first 100-40-20-10 race, with a guaranteed spot in the Kentucky Derby in the Louisana Derby at Fair Grounds on March 26.

Our first look on Sunday is at Gulfstream Park. Gulfstream has 11 races worth $448,000 in prize money this afternoon. Head below for our best Gulfstream Park picks on February 27, 2022.

Race 2 is a $27,000 event covering a mile and 70 yards on the dirt. The presence of Gemonteer and Kitten’s Spa should make it tough on the rest of this field.

Gemonteer is 5 for 25 and should do better in this spot than we’ve seen recently. He’s finished 7th, 2nd, 4th, 6th in his previous four attempts.

In his most recent race, Gemonteer finished 6th in a $31,000 assignment on February 5, This was after going 4th on January 15 for January 15 in a $24,000 race. If Gemonteer runs up to expectations, he can be closer.

Kitten’s Spa is 5 for 24 in his career and finished 7th, 4th, 2nd in the previous three races. The gelding placed 2nd behind Dr. Shane by a half-length in a $27,000 event on January 20.

This was following a class drop from $36,000 after finishing 4th. This is not the toughest field, with a big chance for Kitten’s Spa here

        Purse:$60,000

The fourth race at Gulfstream covers 1 1/16 miles for a $60,000 prize. Look closely at Path to Victory and Ultima Copa to win.

Path to Victory made her debut on January 28 and had a promising first-time run. She finished a neck behind Soul of an Angel for a $32,000 purse in that one.

It was a decent first attempt. If Path to Victory shows improvement then there’s a case to be made for the No. 6 at good odds.

Ultima Copa showed 3rd on debut January 19. It was good work in a tough $60,000 race. This is the same grade, but the competition doesn’t look to be the best of her foes.

A replay of her debut should be sufficient in a winnable race.

        Distance:1 Mile
        Purse:$39,000

Race 7 is a mile on the dirt for a $39,000 purse on the dirt. Cajun Cousin and Freccia D’argento should have top credentials for a winning run Sunday afternoon.

Cajun Cousin is 4th, 1st, 2nd, 7th, 3rd, 3rd in her career. The filly had a 9 length $33,500 win on July 24 in her second trip. Since then, he hasn’t been back, but consistent recently.

She showed 3rd on December 3 in two $39,000 assignments. The same form likely yields a competitive race in Race 7.

Freccia D’argento is 2 for 9 with a brilliant run on January 20. She hit the winner’s circle after a $34,000 win by a half-length.

Freccia D’argento cut back from stakes racing after finishing 10th, 5th, 5th. She was previously a winner in August before going up in class.

A win at the $39,000 looks reachable for Freccia D’argento in Race 7.

Santa Anita Park Selections for February 27, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

BetOnline has ten racecourses for wagering on Sunday afternoon. We had a big upset go down in the books at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas yesterday. Un Ojo won at 75-1 to upset the field and win 50 points towards the Kentucky Derby.

          Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

That’s a heck of an upset for Un Ojo’s team. An upset against some of the best three-year-old runners in Churchill Downs in May would be even more jarring. Like King Guillermo did on the Road to the Kentucky Derby with an upset last year, don’t get too excited over Un Ojo.

We’re at Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park on Sunday afternoon. Access our Gulfstream Park link for more horse racing picks today. Santa Anita has eight races worth $325,000 in California. Head below for our best Santa Anita Park picks on February 27, 2022.

          Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
          Purse:$40,000

Race 2 is a 6 ½ furlongs for a $40,000 purse at Santa Anita. Expect Founder’s Day and Little Rachel to do well on these terms.

          Founder’s Day is a one-time winner in 11 attempts, with finishes of 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 3rd, 4th in her previous five races.

In her most recent outing, Founder’s Day finished 4th for $69,000 purse on February 5. That might sound fine, but there were only four horses in the race.

Down in class, look for Founder’s Day to put something better together. Little Rachel will be right there to battle with Founder’s Day.

          Little Rachel is 2nd, 6th, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 2nd in six career races. She came through with a half-length $35,000 victory on February 19.

Unable to follow up in a $40,000 race, Little Rachel was still competitive, placing 2nd behind Del Mar Drama by 2 ¾ lengths. This assignment should afford Little Rachel a big chance Sunday.

          Distance: 6 ½ Furlongs
          Purse:$31,000

Race 3 is a 6 ½ furlong event for a $31,000 purse. Inch and Crossword are participants to watch in this one.

Inch is a one-time winner on September 5. The gelding is 4th, 10th, 5th, 3rd in four races. He is 5th, 3rd in his previous two attempts.

Inch most recently showed 3rd on January 23 in a $31,000 event. That was fine, but more might be required to win Sunday afternoon.

Crossword has a win on November 20, 2020 at Del Mar. Since that point, Crossword is winless in 11 races. In his last, the colt placed 2nd behind Muay Thai by 2 lengths in a $31,000 assignment.

That put Crossword in better standing after finishing 4th, and then 9th in a $69,000 race. A drop in class helped nicely and another $31,000 event should suit him well.

          Post Time: 3:15 p.m. PST
          Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
          Purse:$24,000

Race 6 is a $24,000 event covering 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Dorita’s Happy and Marie could play a big role in the stretch.

Dorita’s Happy is winless in seven races, finishing 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th in her previous four races. The filly most recently finished 5th on January 28 in a $24,000 assignment.

That didn’t go according to plan after finishing 4th on December 5 in a $23,000 race. This looks a bit easier, but Marie is probably going to be a problem.

Marie made her debut on November 14 in a $57,000 event. It didn’t go as expected finishing in 6th. However, on a class drop to $24,000, this will be much easier.

She’s looked the part in workouts. Marie has been timed at 47.40, 47.80 seconds at 4 furlongs, and 1:00.20, 1:00.60, and 1:00.40 at 5 furlongs.

If that form holds from workouts, look for Marie to be a top contender in Race 6.

LAUREL PARK PICKS AND PONDERINGS: FEB. 27, 2022
            John Piassek

In which we pick the races from Laurel Park each day…

            Post time: 12:25 p.m.

            Carryovers: Rainbow Jackpot Pick 6 — $0 Super High 5 — $0 Late Pick 5 — $0

Check out our other handicapping here!

RACE 1: MAIDEN CLAIMING $10,000, 4 AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES AND MARES, 6 FURLONGS

            7-3-5-1

There’s eight races on today’s card, as we wrap up the month of February. #7 Moon Biz (7/5) ran a career-best brisnet figure of 74 last out, earned when she set the pace, opened up a clear lead in the stretch, and faded. Goes second off the layoff and should be able to sustain her speed this time. #3 Union Betty (4/1) finished third behind Moon Biz last out. She doesn’t have any early speed, but her closing kick has been improving. #5 Pearlyville (8/5) cuts back from a mile and will likely challenge Moon Biz for the lead from the inside. While her figures are competitive, she’s had many chance at this level at low odds and hasn’t delivered.

            RACE 2: CLAIMING $10,000 (N/W2L), 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 1/16 MILES

            4-7-1-3

#4 Hummin’ the Funk (2/1) broke her maiden at tenth asking last out, rallying from well out of it to get up in the last few strides. She’s run in the 70s in each of her last three starts. #7 Secret Prize (7/5) races against winners for the second time. She ran a career-best figure at Charles Town last out despite a wide trip. The post isn’t ideal here but at least it’s not on a bullring. #1 Hot Choice (9/2) takes a big drop from the n/w1x level, and while her figures aren’t that competitive with those of the top two, she should best the rest.

            Laurel Park
Laurel Park news and notes: Feb. 26
News and notes from today’s action at Laurel Park….

            RACE 3: CLAIMING $5,000 (N/W3L), 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 MILE

            4-3-2-8

#4 Paint Music for Me (7/2) has finished in the exacta in his last four starts, and was a game second in his first start at this condition. He fought hard in the stretch and was beaten only by Patriot Kid, who swallowed the field up with a looping last-to-first rally. #3 Muchacho Macho (7/2) was third behind Paint Music for Me in his last start. He made a premature move to the lead and hung on well late even when he was tiring. #2 Voltamour (4/1) was fourth in that race and goes third off the layoff with good closing speed.

            RACE 4: CLAIMING $25,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS, 1 MILE

            4-2-3-5

#4 Dangnabbit (2/1) broke his maiden impressively at Parx two starts back, but was eased when facing much better last out. Drops in class and adds lasix for the first time. A prime candidate for a bounce-back race. #2 Auction Kingdom (9/2) closed gamely to break his maiden last out with a competitive figure of 74. He’s the only one in the race without a loss against winners. #3 Lord Mio (3/1) flattened out badly last out but keeps dropping down the class ladder. His low 70s/upper 60s figures are competitive with these.

            RACE 5: MAIDEN CLAIMING $40,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS, 6 1/2 FURLONGS

            10-5-6-4

#10 Goldenize (5/2) ran a huge mark of 93 against straight maidens last out, finishing third against a field that looked promising on paper. This is a pretty salty bunch by maiden claiming standards but he’ll be tough if he can run back to that race. #5 Money Room (7/2) closed stoutly and just missed in his 3-year-old debut last out behind The Addison Pour, who was second in a salty n/w1x race next out. He’s been getting better with every start. #6 Violent Rock (6/1) exits the same race as Money Room. It was his career debut, and he made a promising bid to lose by just two lengths.

            RACE 6: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS, 1 MILE

            2-3-4-1

#2 Free Square (9/2) ran a gutsy race on the lead last out and goes first off the claim for Jerry Robb. He has an ideal post and should be the main factor on the front end. #3 Minecrafter (5/1) exits the same race as Free Square. In that race, he sat the trip and won going away in an impressive performance first off the layoff. Turned in a bullet workout a few days ago. #4 Loose Ends (12/1) was scratched out of a similar spot at Parx a few days ago. He just missed against Pennsylvania-breds two starts back, then closed strongly to get up and win last out. Interesting at a price.

            Safely Kept
            BackTracks: Safely Kept, stone-cold runner
In today’s BackTracks, Maryland-bred and -sired Safely Kept came from relatively modest beginnings to earn every accolade imaginable.

            RACE 7: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, MD-BRED, 6 FURLONGS

            2-3-6-1

#2 Seven On the Rocks (2/1) made his first start off a very long layoff against open company last out, and ran a big figure of 86 while battling near the lead throughout. He just missed second behind Going to the Lead, who is a perfect 2-for-2 this year. #3 Rising Perry (7/2) consistently runs in the 80s, but it’s not clear he has the closing kick needed to win this one, considering his string of second and third-place performances. #6 San Antone (5/2) also loves to hit the board; he’s been the runner-up, beaten less than a length, in three consecutive starts. He’ll likely get the trip just off the pace, but can he convert?

RACE 8: CLAIMING $5,000 (N/W3L), 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 MILE

            4-5-1-2

#4 Unshakeable U (4/5) was well-backed against better n/w3L types last out, but faltered badly after setting an aggressive pace. She should rebound here, but don’t expect the betting public to be fooled. #5 Gold Time Vixen (9/2) stopped badly after a wide trip last out and should also recover. She would’ve been closer two back at Penn National if she wasn’t interfered with. #1 Love is Strong (7/2) surged and just missed in her last two races and will hope for a pace to close into.
