    Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

    Yonkers - Race #1
    Picks Notes
#5 B VANISH Right set-up, right price in second start off layoff.
#1 IDEAL CHIP Piling up the checks but not the wins.
#3 HORIZON Led until stretch before 5-for-6 winner passed by.
Race Summary B Vanish raced first-over and tired on a sloppy Saratoga Raceway track as the favorite in her first start since October. She should have plenty of pace to rally into at an inflated price. Play 5-1 and 5-3 exactas.

    Northfield Park - Race #7
    Picks Notes
#4 SHE’S GOLD Burned money after solid local debut, as good as any in here.
#2 WIGGLE ROOM Morning-line fave showed pulse in qualifier, lures Merriman.
#1 KRISTA’S HILL Can land minor awards from rail but 0-64 mark hard to overlook.
Race Summary She’s Gold ran third in her first go-round at Northfield three starts ago, broke stride as a follow-up fave, then failed to mount a second-over rally behind the pace-controlling, odds-on winner last week. She’s worth a win and place bet in a weak field.

    Northfield Park - Race #11
    Picks Notes
#7 ADMIRAL ALLSTAR Bid into fast pace but couldn’t clear, could reward loyal followers.
#8 MOMMA KNOWS BEST Rallied but couldn’t reach 9-1 winner, moves inside out.
#3 DEEP BREATH Led clear from second tier, but finished third as the favorite.
Race Summary Admiral Allstar, gapped in third behind a fast and contested pace, made his move early on the backstretch, was parked the rest of the way and faded late in 1:55.1. He meets mostly female rivals and should live up to favoritism if he can establish early position.

Fair Grounds Selections for March 16, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

      By Kyle E in Horse Racing — Mar 16th, 2022 1:04am PDT

Fair Grounds Selections for March 16, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re back on the turf and dirt on Wednesday afternoon, as we search for winning horses. BetOnline has nine racecourses from North America for wagering on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The most notable tracks have to be Gulfstream Park and Fair Grounds Race Course.

      Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

It isn’t too much today, but better than basically only Parx and Turf Paradise for thoroughbred racing. There was also Sunland Park in New Mexico yesterday, but nothing to get excited about. There are no stakes races on the card, which will resume on March 19.

The $500,000 Essex Handicap (Gr. 3) is the feature this coming weekend at Oaklawn Park. The big race of March is the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (Gr. 1) on March 26 at Fair Grounds.

As far as Wednesday is concerned, our first stop is at Fair Grounds Race Course. Fair Grounds has nine races worth $324,000 today. Head below for our best Fair Grounds picks on March 16, 2022.

      Distance: 1 Mile 70 Yards
      Purse:$53,000

Look for Custom Bobby’s and Duvee to run a strong race in Race 2. Custom Bobby’s and Duvee should battle hard in the stretch run in this one.

Custom Bobby’s is a one-time winner through 11 attempts. He is 4th, 2nd, 3rd, 4th in his previous four attempts.

Three races back, Custom Bobby’s placed 2nd behind Run Pocket by 1 length in a $41,000 assignment. Following that one, Custom Bobby’s showed 3rd on January 20 for $47,000.

In his most recent, he finished 4th in a $47,000 race. Expect Custom Bobby to be competitive, but he needs more for a win.

Duvee is 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 1st in four career races. He is coming on nicely and scored a $52,000 win on February 12 by 8 lengths in a blowout. This came after placing 2nd behind Inheatly by a length in the same grade.

Race 2 looks like it is Duvee’s to win if he’s feeling good today.

      +800 (8/1)

      Post Time: 2:05 p.m. CST
      Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
      Purse:$23,000

Race 3 is our second stop at Fair Grounds with a $23,000 event. Look at Halfmoon Reef and Reckless Ransom could get into it at this level.

Halfmoon Reef is inconsistent, but has the talent to win if he’s feeling right. He’s hard to count out given his ability, but also hard to trust because of how on and off Halfmoon Reef goes.

He has finished 9th, 4th, 1st, 7th in his previous four events, with a win on January 16 for a $20,000 prize. That was a good look for Halfmoon Reef.

However, fell back to 7th on February 11 in a $23,000 assignment. Reckless Ransom has to be in consideration as well.

Reckless Ransom is 13 for 73 and coming off a strong win on February 11. He was there for a 4 ½ length win and Halfmoon Reef last.

Halfmoon Reef was the favorite and that didn’t go well. If Reckless Ransom runs like that again, it should be another clear victory.

The No. 1 kicked going into the stretch and couldn’t get caught. It was a nicely run race and this looks like another good spot for Reckless Ransom.
      The Bet

      (5) Microcap
      +1000 (10/1)
      (6) Audrey’s Time
      +350 (7/2)

      Post Time: 4:05 p.m. CST
      Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
      Purse:$56,000

Race 7 goes for 1 1/16 miles on the dirt at Fair Grounds. This $56,000 purse should be between Audrey’s Time and Clairere in the stretch run.

Audrey’s Time is 4 for 17 in her career and 1st, 3rd, 1st, 3rd in her previous four attempts. She is looking good, including graded appearances in the Falls City Stakes (Gr. 2) and Houston Ladies Classic Stakes (Gr. 3).

In her most recent attempt, Audrey’s Time showed 3rd in the $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic Stakes on January 30. This was after a 1 ¾ length win in the $75,000 Joseph E. Spanky Broussard Memorial Stakes.

Clairere has run in nine graded races in ten total appearances. She is going to be tough in this one. Overall, the filly has two wins in two attempts, finishing 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 4th in her previous four.

She was a winner of the $1,000,000 Cotillion Stakes (Gr. 1) on September 25 by 2 ½ lengths over Obligatory. Impressive.

However, Clairere most recently finished 4th on November 6 in the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (Gr. 1). Considering how tough that race was against tough competition, it wasn’t a bad attempt.

If she is interested in running, this looks like a winnable race. I’d look towards the No. 4 who is the most accomplished horse in this race by far.

:: Hong Kong: Free PPs, picks, analysis, replays, and live streaming

        Race 1: Selkirk Handicap

#7 Viva Mama is closing in on another win. He’s returned to a competitive mark and Zac Purton’s booking gives him every chance. #1 Give Way Please has a bit of speed. Expect he rolls forward and tries to pinch this one. The step down to Class 5 is favourable. #6 Split Of A Second gets Joao Moreira up. He’s dangerous in this grade with the reigning champion jockey aboard. #2 Universal Crown should find himself in the right spot. He gets his chance here for Blake Shinn.

        Race 2: Wiltshire Handicap

Surprised #12 Smiling Face is not yet a winner. Still, he gets one of his better chances yet with no weight and a return to his preferred course and distance. The inside gate has him favoured here. #3 Who Loves The Ace has a powerful finish on his day. He has a touch of class and has proven to be a threat in this grade. #4 Amazing Boy draws well and should be able to park in the right spot throughout. He’s close to a first win. #1 Manna From Heaven should improve back in this grade. Keep him safe.

        Race 3: Renfrew Handicap

#2 Natural Storm turned his form around last start to grab third. He should be fit and ready to win again now, especially in Class 4. #3 Packing Famous is on the steady improve. He remains a threat once more. Strong booking of Joao Moreira has him favoured here. #4 go For Tea appears better than his record suggests. He gets an opportunity from the inside draw. #1 Perfect Maryknoll steps out for Benno Yung. He should relish the drop to Class 4, especially as he pairs with Zac Purton for the first time.

Race 4: Hereford Handicap (1st Section)

#6 Sure Joyful caught the eye on debut – finishing fast to grab a close-up third. Expect he can take another step forward here and does shape as the one to beat. #3 Sight Hero should arguably be more than just a one-time winner. He doesn’t know how to run poorly, and he shapes as the main danger here. #2 Soaring Tower has the ability. He draws well and should get every chance under Karis Teetan. #10 Dassit is coming to hand. Strong booking of Joao Moreira suggests he’s close to a win.

        Race 5: Lancashire Handicap

#4 Bulletproof got the job done nicely last time out. He rates to do the same again here for Zac Purton and Ricky Yiu. He’ll find the right spot and from there prove hard to beat. #8 Big Two turned his form around last time out. He has a touch of class and is favoured with the light weight. #10 Chater Pins is still without a win. He has the ability and is a threat once more with no weight on his back from gate four. #11 Hyperion Tree has claims. He’s next best.

Race 6: Hereford Handicap (2nd Section)

#8 Joyful Genius doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Still, in saying that – he is yet to win across nine starts. He gets another excellent chance to get off the mark and the booking of Zac Purton has him favoured. #1 Like That has the class edge here. He won’t know himself in this grade. #12 King’s Trooper is favoured at the bottom of the handicap. He was a strong winner two starts ago under Ruan Maia. #6 Fire Ball is not without his chance. Expect he rolls forward to try and make a run at this one.

Race 7: Chester Handicap (1st Section)

#1 Team Spirit should find the front to try and lead. He made all in style three starts ago and he gets his chance to do that again here. #4 Eason hasn’t finished worse than second across four starts in Hong Kong. He’s a lightly raced talent with a very, very bright future. #6 Mercurial won well last time out. Expect he’s held his condition for the in-form Tony Cruz. #3 Stock Legend has struggled since his four wins last term. Still, Zac Purton takes the ride and he’s favoured stepping away from gate one.

Race 8: Chester Handicap (2nd Section)

#10 Star Brite has shown his class a few times. He’s on an upward spiral and appears well weighted to get his first win here. #2 Armour Eagle got off the mark in style last start. He can continue that form here and is favoured by remaining in Class 3. #9 Scotch Tycoon is on the rise. He’s a smart two-time winner from only four starts. Zac Purton hops off to ride Armour Eagle but even still, he draws well and does get a capable pair of hands aboard in Karis Teetan. #3 Transcendent is a winner in this grade already this term. Don’t discount.

        Race 9: Durham Handicap

#2 Jumbo Fortune is a very, very nice horse and he looks well placed to get off the mark here. He’s on the steady improve and he was an impressive winner at Group 3 level prior to export from Australia. #7 Meaningful Star is chasing back-to-back wins. He steps away from gate five which suits. #11 The Anomaly is class on his day. Don’t discount with the light weight. #6 Turin Redstar mixes his form but does love the course and distance. He can figure with the right run.

Ottawa has played to 3 straight "overs," but I say that high-scoring streak ends here. The Sens mini 2-game win streak is now in the rear-view mirror after B2B high-scoring losses to Chicago (6-3) and Arizona (5-3.) The Sens only average 2.64 GPG. They beat Columbus by a score of 2-1 on the road in January and I'm expecting a similar final combined score here as well. The Blue Jackets are off B2B wins, most recently pulling away for a 6-4 victory over Vegas, but note that they've seen the total go "under" the number in 7 of their last 9 in trying to revenge a home loss against an opponent in which they were held to 1 or less goals in. Consider the "under" in this one!

The Houston Rockets come in on two days' rest having last played on Sunday. The Phoenix Suns will be playing the second of a back-to-back after a win in New Orleans last night. The Suns will also be playing their 6th game in 9 days here and remain without Chris Paul and could be without Cameron Johnson again. It's a lot to ask of the Suns to go on the road and beat the Rockets by 12-plus points given the tough rest situation. The Rockets are almost fully healthy right now and have been competitive in recent games with upset wins over both Memphis and the LA Lakers at home. Houston is 4-1 ATS in its last five games following an ATS loss. Give me the Rockets.
