    MLB | Angels vs A's

Play on: Angels -125 at linepros

This is a play on the LOS ANGELES ANGELS for our Sunday Free Play. The Angels have won two of the first three games of this series and can take the four-game set in a great pitching advantage at a solid price. They are just percentage points behind Houston for first place in the American League West and bring in a strong 11-6 road record and they lead all of baseball in runs scored and home runs. Patrick Sandoval has been a great and his finally starting to show his potential as he has posted a 2.03 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through his first five starts with the Angels winning four of those. He has tossed three straight quality starts and faces the worst offense in baseball in terms of average and OPS and second worst in runs scored. Oakland has struggled against lefties as it is hitting just .165 at home. Oakland has won four of its last six games but this offense remains a problem and are in another tough spot here. Frankie Montas has been decent yet inconsistent as he has a 3.77 ERA in seven starts with four of those being quality. Three of those quality games came against three of the worst 11 offense in baseball and now faces one of the best with an offense behind him that has scored no runs in three of his last four starts. Here, we play against home teams when the money line is +125 to -125 after five straight games where they stranded seven or less runners on base, with a bullpen whose ERA is under 1.50 the last five games. This situation is 26-8 (76.5 percent) over the last five seasons. Play (973) Los Angeles Angels

        MLB | Phillies vs Dodgers

Play on: Dodgers -134 at linepros

My free play is on the LA Dodgers at 4:10 ET (this side play is "action").
The Philadelphia Phillies opened the season having failed to make the playoffs in each of the last 10 years, the second-longest active streak in MLB. Philly came to LA Thursday to open a four-game series with the Dodgers, after taking two of three in Seattle to open the week. However, the Phillies were just 14-17 to open the season and found themselves 6 1/2-games behind the Mets in the NL East (11 straight non-playoff seasons?). The Dodgers saw their streak of EIGHT straight NL West titles end in 2021 (Giants won 107 games to LA's 106) but made the postseason for the NINTH consecutive season (did beat the Giants 3-2 in a NLDS matchup). The Dodgers lost TWO of three in Pittsburgh (Mon-Wed) but returned home to begin an eight-game homestand. LA was 20-9 on the season, 1 1/2-games better than the Padres and two games ahead of the Giants in the NL West (tough division).
As of Thursday morning, the Dodgers owned MLB's best run-differential at plus-78 runs, 26 runs more than Yankees second-best mark of plus-52. The Dodgers led all of MLB in scoring (5.14 RPG) and in team ERA (2.25) plus bullpen ERA (0.99). Los Angeles had played just 12 games at home, the least of any National League team and tied for the lowest in the major leagues with the Cleveland Guardians, but no team could top the Dodgers' .833 home winning percentage (10-2). So how have the last three days gone in this series? The Phillies won Thursday (9-7), Friday (12-10) and Saturday (8-3). LA has averaged 6.67 RPG but what has happened to the team's pitching, which has allowed 9.67 RPG. The 29 runs are the most runs the Phillies have scored in three straight games at Dodger Stadium and two off the record by any Los Angeles opponent. One can't make this stuff up!
The Phillies will send Aaron Nola (1-3, 3.83 ERA) to the mound on Sunday. In his most recent outing Tuesday at Seattle, he gave up a pair of season highs with nine hits and five runs allowed. Four of the runs were earned. He hasn't earned a victory since his season debut April 8, with the Phillies going 0-6 in his subsequent starts. I'm not sure that the fact that he's 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA in five career starts against the Dodgers (team is 4-1), gives me much confidence in Nola. LA's Michael Grove will make his major-league debut in Sunday's series finale. Grove's opportunity has come about after Los Angeles left-hander Clayton Kershaw went on the injured list Friday with lower-back inflammation. Grove, a second-round draft pick in 2018, was 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA in five starts at Double-A Tulsa.
It seems VERY likely that Grove will get the start but I'm making this side play "action," just in case LA has second thoughts before the first pitch. I'm taking the Dodgers regardless of who starts. NO four-game sweep here by Philly.
        Good luck...Larry

          NHL | Penguins vs Rangers

Play on: Rangers -136 at circa

These teams have been here before. In 2014, off a 4-2 win, the Pens had a 3-1 series lead over the Rangers. The Rangers rallied to force a Game 7 though. Once there, they completed the comeback. History is on the verge of repeating itself. Once again, the Rangers have rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force a Game 7. Momentum on their side and playing on home ice, I like their chances advancing. The Pens, who may again be without Crosby, are 24-20 on the road. The Rangers are 29-15 here at MSG. Note that the Rangers are also 21-11 (+10.2) on the season, when off a win of two or more goals. Consider NY

                      NHL | Stars vs Flames

Play on: Flames -174 at SC Consensus

Sunday NHL Free play. My selection is on Calgary over Dallas at 9:35 pm et on Sunday.
We won with the Stars on the puck-line in Game 6 of this series on Friday but I won't hesitate to go the other way and back the Flames in Game 7 on Sunday. Calgary has been one of the most dominant home teams in the league from a scoring margin perspective, outscoring the opposition by 1.3 goals on average. Meanwhile, Dallas checks in averaging just 2.5 goals per game on the road and we've certainly seen those scoring issues first hand here in Calgary in this series as they've managed just three goals in three games north of the border. After watching their in-province rival, the Edmonton Oilers, punch their ticket to the next round last night, look for the Flames to do the same and secure a long-awaited 'Battle of Alberta' series in the next round. Take Calgary.
