MLB | Angels vs Rangers
Play on: Angels -155 at SC Consensus
Wednesday's MLB Free Pick: Los Angeles Angels -155
I'll take my chances with the Angels as a -155 road favorite against the Rangers on Wednesday. LA is going to be highly motivated to avoid getting swept in this series and they got just the guy on the mound to make sure that doesn't happen.
Shohei Ohtani is set to make his seventh start of the season. He's 3-2 with a 2.78 ERA and 0.959 WHIP in his first 6 starts. He's got a 1.50 ERA and 0.889 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Ohtani's only subpar outing of the season came at Texas back in his second start. There will be no overlooking the Rangers the second time around and he had pitched very well against Texas in his previous 4 starts against them.
Dane Dunning will be on the rubber for the Rangers. He's been solid so far in 2022, but is coming off a poor outing at home against the Red Sox, where he gave up 5 runs in 5 2/3 innings. The other big thing here is Dunning's struggles against the Angels. He's got a 7.13 ERA and 1.698 WHIP in 4 career starts vs LA. Give me the Angels -155! Confidence Rating: 5 (Scale of 1-10)

MLB | Angels vs Rangers
Play on: Angels -172 at Ace
My free play is on the LA Angels at 8:05 ET.
The Angels are coming off a 77-85 season and the franchise's only World Series title came back in 2002. I'm sure it seems like even more than two decades ago to Angel fans, as the team has missed the postseason 11 times in the last 12 years (got swept 3-0 in a 2014 ALDS in its lone appearance in that span). The Rangers appeared in back-to-back World Series in 2010 and 2011 (lost both) but continued to be competitive, making the playoffs in THREE of the next five seasons. However, it's been FIVE consecutive losing seasons for Texas since 2017. The two AL West teams began a three-game series in Texas Monday night with the Angels checking in at 24-13 and the Rangers at 14-19. However, the Rangers have won the first two games 7-4 and 10-5.
Shohei Ohtani (3-2, 2.78 ERA) makes his seventh start of the season in the series finale, as the Angels look to avoid a 3-game sweep at the hand of the Rangers. Texas counters with Dane Dunning (1-2, 4.06 ERA) on the mound. Ohtani and Dunning met earlier this season, on April 14, also in Texas. The Rangers won 10-5 that day, with Dunning not involved in the decision, as he worked only 3.2 innings, giving up two runs. In contrast, Ohtani was tagged with the loss, after giving up SIX runs (all earned) in just 3.2 innings. However, Ohtani has allowed just three ERs in his last four starts. Dunning was just 5-10 with a 4.51 ERA and 1.44 WHIP as a rookie last season and the Rangers are 3-4 in his 2022 starts.
Ohtani was ripped by Texas back on April 14th, but he was 3-0 (team was 4-0) in his previous four career starts against Texas. Meanwhile, the Rangers are 2-2 in Dunning's four career starts against the Angels, but he owns a 7.13 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. No sweep here, as Ohtani over Dunning is the play.
Good luck...Larry
Wednesday NHL Free play. My selection is on Calgary over Edmonton at 9:30 pm et on Wednesday.
The Oilers and Flames will renew acquaintances in the 'Battle of Alberta' on Wednesday night in Calgary and I expect the Flames to hold serve at the Saddledome. Calgary was dominant in its opening round series against Dallas but Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger stood on his head and ultimately helped his team push the series the distance. In the end it wasn't enough as Calgary prevailed in overtime in Game 7. Here, I don't anticipate the Flames facing another red hot goaltending performance as Oilers veteran netminder Mike Smith has been inconsistent all season, carrying over into the playoffs. The Flames check in 28-17 on home ice this season, outscoring opponents by 1.5 goals on average. They've taken six of their last nine meetings with the Oilers here in Calgary and I look for them to improve on that record here in Game 1. Take Calgary.
