Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway has a solid 12-race card scheduled with the feature coming in Race 8, an Open Handicap Pace with a $39,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

2-Motive Hanover (4-1)-Doesn't usually shine at this level but is in sharp form and regular pilot Joe B is back between the pipes. Looking to fade the morning line chalk #1 and this 6-year-old should be in the hunt.
4-Real Peace (7-1)-Hasn't shown any gate speed since arriving in town but possess some early foot. Will look for Brennan to be more aggressive here and pick up the 1st win at YR. Should offer a square price and may land in a good seat this time.
8-Rolling With Sam (9/2)-Claimed in last by the Alexander barn who is posting a strong 31% winners over the past 30 days. Is usually in the hunt versus this kind and if all systems are "go" Kakaley will be leaving with a purpose.

Race 8

3-Bee Two Bee (5/2)-Finished a close 2nd in a 150.0 mile and now steps-up to meet Open Handicap company. Likes to race close to the lead and Brennan should get there. Looks like a player, hoping not over bet but should fit with this crew.
7-American Dealer N (9/2)-Wired this kind in last at just short of 6/5 and now the post makes the price. Joe B will be back in the bike for this Toscano trainee. Best to respect, could be beat this bunch without having the lead early in the mile.

Race 9

1-Anothrmastrpiece N (5/2)-Was hung out at 1/9 as #3 and #4 left in hurry so this 7-year-old couldn't clear. Should make the most of the rail and might make amends tonight.
4-Im A Gigolo N (12-1) Left alertly, landed in the pocket and was able to come through the inside down the lane. Many will overlook because of the fortunate trip but is worth a swing for a repeat at double digit odds.

Race 10

3-Gemologist (8-1)-Doesn't show big gate speed, but this field isn't loaded with it. May have enough early foot from this post to get a pocket ride and surprise at a nice price.
5-Smalltownthrowdown (5/2)-Doubting the morning line price holds because this Burke trainee got jammed up in last. Broke 2nd, then the leader came to a crawl, lost ground, and rallied willing going 3-wide. Shouldn't get a worse trip tonight and has a post edge on the last winner #7.

#1 Thisladyis The Law She drops into a win spot today after failing to pan out on the rise after the claim last July, and she isn't meeting a whole lot in here. Guessing she gets home.
#4 Vaccina Think she's worth a look at a price as she stretches around two turns for the first time over the local footing, and she has some pace to her from the sprint tries at Penn.
#6 Gio's My Dad She woke up a bit when trying this surface for the first time last out, and she might appreciate getting around two turns with a pedigree that hints she might like it.
Race Summary Thisladyis The Law should be tough with this group after facing better throughout her career, and there are still a lot of question marks for the other logical alternatives to answer. Maybe Vaccina is the right price player to get in the frame.

#5 Longshanks Think this one might go to whichever runner can grind along best late in a small field with a handful of forward types. This guy can probably settle just a touch if needed.
#1 Traveller He looks like the one to beat after the good first route try, but I worry that he's going to have some company as the inside speed here. Dangerous.
#2 Youmustbea Weasley He has a little positional pace that might let him press or prompt the guy drawn inside without getting caught up in any tough early battle, and his only two-turn try here was pretty solid.
Race Summary Longshanks turned in a pretty decent effort in Indiana last time out, and he might be able to land a good spot spying the splits while drawing outside of some other forward players.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
Picks Notes
#10 Golden Oak He was pretty disappointing off the bench, but he can probably bring something better with that run under his belt, and he ran some races here last season that would probably do the trick from off the pace.
#2 Homemade Moonshine He seemed to like finding this level last time out, and he's a threat if he's able to bring anything similar here. Think he'll find one or two of these a little too tough today. but I like him for a piece at a price.
#5 Over It Dropper can be tough after turning in a good effort for nearly twice this price, but I worry he's going to be a bit overbet in this spot.
Race Summary Golden Oak is better than what he showed last time out, and I think he can offer better today at an improved price. Look for him late.

Thistledown doesn’t have the spotlight too much, but they will have the feature next week. The signature event of the year takes place at Thistledown, with the running of the $500,000 Ohio Derby (Gr. 3).

The mare finished 4th for a $17,400 prize on May 18, so the class drop was a smart move. She is going to need greater improvement for a win this afternoon.

Publicist should be tough to beat in this one. The mare is 2nd, 2nd, 3rd in her previous three outings and feeling pretty good.
