Saturday's MLB Free Pick: San Diego Padres +140
I'll take my chances with the Padres cashing as a +140 road dog against the Mets. San Diego won 4-1 on Friday as a +175 dog, as they took down New York with Scherzer on the mound. Mets lead in the AL East is now just 1.5 games over Atlanta.
This to me is too good a price to pass up with the Padres after yesterday's win. The numbers aren't great for San Diego's Blake Snell, but he had two really good starts before a clunker at Coors Field in his final tune-up before the break. Prior to the bad outing in Colorado, Snell had given up just 2 ER on 7 Hits with 23 K's in 11 innings over 2 starts vs the Giants and Dodgers.
Chris Bassitt will be on the mound for the Mets. He's been rock-solid for New York this season, but he did not fare well in his only outing so far in 2022 against these Padres. Bassitt gave up 6 ER in 3 1/3 innings. Give me the Padres +140!

I like the New York Mets to win this game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday. The Mets couldn't get it done with Scherzer pitching on Friday but I think they will bounce back in this game with a win. Chris Bassitt (7-6, 3.79 ERA) is up for the Mets here and he has been good in his starts all year. He has pitched a few bad game here and there this year but he has looked really good lately, shutting down lineups in his previous starts. He hasn't given up 3 or more runs in 5 starts in a row now, but has only given up 3 runs total in his previous 2 starts and has been getting better and better lately. I think he will pitch a good game here and shut down the Padres lineup which has been spotty all year when it comes to putting up runs consistently. Blake Snell (1-5, 5.22 ERA) is up for the Padres here and he has been having a terrible year. He just had a very bad June and has been struggling in his starts all year, not pitching at all like he has in previous seasons. He just had another start in his most recent where he gave up 5 runs and this has been a common theme for him all year. I expect the Mets to bounce back here after that loss and I think they can put up some runs on Snell here. I like the Mets to win this game.
